Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

Talk about your end of the road. It was great to have you there to meet me the first night, I wasn't that sure in the dark. The lights shining out in the night reminded me of the Last Homely House. Then the next morning, wow! Thanks very much for the most wonderful and relaxing, as well as inspiring personal retreat. I actually got something done. Guess just needed the peace and quiet to get the juices going. Glad I opted for the extra week but a month was too short! This is a great place to really get creative, get focused, or just plain kick back. I can't believe how gorgeous it is (was it a dream?) I'm really glad you all are offering this space; it is a gem. I will definitely be coming back every year, heck maybe I'll just move over. I even enjoyed cooking, something I never do, as the BBQ looks out over that valley and up the mountain. Which I agree definitely has something going on. So many things to talk about: the sunset sky was amazing. Sitting outside was glorious. The third night I had a passel of pigs run through the yard at dusk and couldn't believe how excited I got. Pigs? Really? But I think my favorite -- and maybe responsible for the writer's block push -- was that outdoor shower. Hot water, cool nights, steam rising, full moon, and my blank page. Thank you.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We have stayed at a number of vacation rentals in the islands, but this place is by far the most...well just the most. From the minute you pull onto the property, which is at the "end of the road" meaning no traffic, you know this is a special piece of paradise. With all the modern conveniences you would need, the home and property are still a part of it's natural surroundings. The home is especially comfortable, with a definite casual feeling. You will come to sense the design and styling in the details and layout of the building, a lot of thought went into it's creation. Hard as it's to believe the surrounding property is every bit as spectacular. We found that after a day of exploring the island, coming back "home" was just as much a vacation, What a great place, property and spirit. We will go back soon! Kauai could not have been more magical - the location of this home was ideal for those who want tranquility as well as adventure. The description and pictures accurately describe in words what this property is like, yet we found it to be so mcuh more. We took the owner's suggestion on places to eat and shop. We enjoyed swimming, surfing, beach combing, scenic drives, sailing, whale watching and hiking. However, we also enjoyed hanging around the property, relaxing and cooking in this very nicely laid out kitchen. Each of the bedrooms had a private bath and each also had a secluded outdoor shower and meditation area for basking in the great mountain air. The Kilauea Lighthouse is close by and a site to experience. Not only do we highly recommend this property to family and friends, we plan to visit again soon. Don't forget your camera - the sites are awe inspiring.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We needed to get away from the fray; found this perfect cottage to celebrate 18 years of marriage! Plenty of time for R&R and rejuvenation ... And exploring! Super location, peaceful and secluded if you want to be zen; but only a short distance from crazy beautiful beaches, Hanalei and other Kauaii treasures. Must have the honeycomb treat from Bar-acuda (yummmm) and any other local cuisine you like ....poke ahi salad anyone? Of course, lovely gourmet kitchen makes it easy to stay in, too! Cottage is beautiful and obviously designed with love. Pictures don't do the property justice. Truly a piece of heaven on earth. Can't wait til our return trip!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

One of the most beautiful views in the world. (And the house is amazing too. ) Even though your photos looked nice, the reality of this place almost knocked me speechless! Thanks for making our stay so perfect. It was the best place to come home to; we ended up staying "in" much more than we should have just to have more time here. This is just everything you need. Very cozy, very private, incredibly lovely. Thanks Maggie for all the help "going local" and for being such a great host.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

I'm from Austin Texas, and stayed at the retreat for a couple of weeks last month to heal from some ongoing health issues. First of all, the photos on the site don't quite do it justice. Hard to explain the view of the mountain that you get from the back porch, but you want to to sit there for hours soaking it in. I've been to Kauai before, and usually stay in Hanalei, but this feels totally different. The property is just so peaceful, it's really like a little slice of heaven. Driving up was my favorite part. Going over the Kalihiwai bridge with that waterfall and valley, and then up the mountain, then finally down the very last dirt road... it makes you feel like royalty. The inside of the house was beautiful and comfortable and all that, but I could have cared less, honestly. I would have been happy camping in the yard. Well, the matching outdoor showers were amazing. Most days, I'd venture into Hanalei to go the beach or get coffee (thank you Java Kai!), or go to secrets beach, but I was always happy to come home and unwind on the couch with a good book. I ending up extending my trip because I was feeling so much better, inspired again. It was hard to leave, but I know I'll be back.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.

About the owner: Originally from Los Angeles, we found this small piece of Kauai aina in 2005 (or more correctly, it found us) and we have never looked back. Because it is our home, we care for it with great pride and attention to detail.

Seeing is believing. When we dream of beauty, we dream this. If peace, earth, sky, nature, prana are your things, this is your place.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
