The place was great. Large 5 bedroom, so a perfect retreat if you have a large group. All bedrooms were of good size and the furnishings where modern and clean. The kitchen is good sized for preparing food and the kitchen table was awesome sized to accommodate our 10 guests. Wood burning fireplace made for a cozy gathering spot. Only complaint would be that it is a bit far from downtown Nevada City - a good 15 minute drive and we had a slight issue with the gas BBQ not getting hot enough, I think that they could use a little larger BBQ for the size of the house. But overall - still an excellent experience.

Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and the Wild and Scenic festival! The bbq works fine now. One of the valves just needed to be cleared. We are happy to share our home with guests--a rural location with miles of hiking trails, while just 10-15 minutes from downtown. Hope to see you for the festival again next year or during the summer swimming weather.
Great house, even greater surroundings.
Great house, even greater surroundings.
My group of 9 stayed comfortably for 4 nights and the house was perfect for us. It was plenty big, and had a pool table to keep us busy at night. The best part about our stay was the series of trails leading off of the property. Some trails were short (10 min) and some were long (hour) but all were gorgeous and had beautiful destinations; creeks, rivers, waterfalls. We hiked everyday and never took the same trail twice. I would definitely love to come back in the summer to try and see if the water is swimmable. The river is so crystal clear, it is beautiful.

We rented this gorgeous retreat for a New Year's dinner party for my husband and I and 10 of our dear friends. Everything from the kitchen to the bath towels was perfect and beyond expectation for our high standards, nature loving Bay Area friends. We hiked the beautiful trails, cooked up a gourmet feast and played lots of card games. All of our friends ask us when we can go back, it was a really special venue for celebrating! Our friends' dogs loved the property as well! Working with Alicia, the property owner, has been a joy. She is responsive and attentive to every detail and I just can't say enough wonderful things about the overall experience. We will definitely be back to the retreat as soon as we have the opportunity!

Spacious, Spotless & Splendid
Spacious, Spotless & Splendid
Our family stayed here for the second year in a row over Thanksgiving, and we enjoyed it even more this year. The house has been lovingly renovated to a more open, free-flowing space, and with twelve of us plus two dogs, we felt very spread out and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of space for all of us wanting to cook, and the beautiful new dining table seated us all very easily. Alicia has taken great care to provide her guests with all the comforts, and is always quick to respond to any inquiries or requests. We loved the outdoors deck and took advantage of it each evening at sunset, and with the property's quiet, off-the-beaten-path location, the star-gazing at night was magnificent. We look forward to returning again, as the area offers boundless opportunities to explore and enjoy.

Owner response: We loved having you and your family again at the retreat!
Our group was very happy with our retreat home! There were 11 of us, and we especially enjoyed all the shade trees, the beautifully-marked trails, the waterfall, the local deer, and the deck overlooking the woods. The kitchen and bedrooms are all nicely sized. The homeowners were quick to address our concerns when we needed some extra help. For a special touch, there was even a carved pumpkin greeting us on the front porch. This is a place that we would be very pleased to come back to!

Yuba River Retreat
Yuba River Retreat
Our group was very happy with the property, loved the oak trees and the deck overlooking the canyon was our favorite spot! The trails are well marked and maintained which was nice for those of us who like a solo hike in the morning. The property was further out than we thought it would be, a long windy drive and we were disappointed at first that we couldn't walk to Nevada City. But, after the first day we felt the trade off was worth it to be up there and the drive seemed to get shorter everytime! So fun to watch the deer come and go while having drinks and appetizers on the deck. The guys were disappointed that there was no cable TV to watch football but they had so much fun playing pool that they got over it quickly. The house is big, clean, comfortable and easy to be in. We do a lot of cooking and they kitchen worked great for all of us. A bit short on cooking utensils, (couldn't find a potato peeler) and no foil or plastic wrap so bring your own. Also, the oven is narrow, our roasting pan that we brought up wouldn't fit. Surprised that the dining table only has 6 chairs and comfortably seats only 8 people when the house holds so many more. There is no other counter/table area for eating so be warned if you all want to eat together. The owner is accommodating and easy to reach with any questions you may have while you are there. We felt the property was presented accurately in the photos and description. We would rent the house again and recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors, quiet living, beautiful oak trees, and deer!

Owner response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and being in the beauty of the mountains. I'll mark the drawer with the potato peeler so it is easier to find and we are adding a new double oven this week, so hopefully you will be even more comfortable during your next visit to the retreat.
Great location, great amenities, spacious rooms with a nice big kitchen for cooking and entertaining. We spent three days here, and loved it. We split our time between the river and the house, with a few trips into town. If you want a quiet time in the woods, this is the way to go.

2 weeks on the Yuba
2 weeks on the Yuba
Good, central location, easy to get to; most everything necessary to live comfortably for two weeks, with children, grandchildren, and friends. We were there during the hottest time--104 degrees during the day-and the proximity to the river was wonderful--we good be in cold, clear water in 20 minutes. And Alicia was very responsive to our special requests! We would recommend to anyone looking for space for large groups. We also took the studio apartment for even more family members and were happy that it was available.

An Awesome Surprise
An Awesome Surprise
I don't know what we expected but this retreat far exceeded our expectations. It is beautifully appointed and so comfortable. I chose this property because our entire family wanted to stay together. We thought some of us would have rooms that were not as nice as others.. That was not true. All the rooms were comfortable, attractive and very clean. Every time I thought that maybe there was something missing that I needed I looked a little further and found it. There were full amenities in all the bathrooms, soap, shampoo, organic towels in all sizes. The one thing I did need that was missing was an iron. I called the owner to see if I might have overlooked it. The next morning she brought an iron and ironing board and left it outside the door because she didn't want to intrude on us. This was an awesome experience. Alicia supplied us with directions from the airports, directions to the venue where we were going for a wedding, directions to the homes other family members had rented. This work was all done on her own time. She could not have been more accommodating .The kitchen had everything we could have ever wanted had we chosen to cook there.. The only thing that i would caution people about is the winding road to reach the property. i am a senior citizen and would not have been comfortable driving to the property myself. my children did it successfully but were cautious the first few times . If you chose this property for your family vacation you can be confident the it is a good choice. I I am a former senior, travel consultant, have inspected several properties over a twenty year career and this property get my highest recommendation for bang for buck.. Terrific choice.
