Best Place I have ever stayed

My daughter and I came from Wyoming for a family reunion in Alaska. It was kind of a last minute arrangement for us to stay here and Carson, the owner was more than accomodating to us. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable. I would highly reccommend staying here, and if I ever make it to Alaska again, Carson will be the first person I contact. The duplex was furnished with everything we needed, including washer and dryer and all dishes and cooking utensils.. We did most of our own cooking while we here, and it saved us a bunch of money. When we did eat out, it is close to a lot of different restaraunts. It is close to a lot of very interesting places, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, within an hour drive of Whittier (glacier tours), the Ididarod headquarters, Earthquake park, the theatre that tells about the earthquake of 1964, shopping, lots of coffee houses. It is on a fairly quiet street, and it has great trees in the back that muffles any noise from the street. There are dark blinds on the windows that were very conducive to sleep. There was a large flat screen TV in the living room and the sofas were so very comfortable for relaxing and regrouping after very busy days of sight seeing. We stayed 9 nights and the rates were very reasonable. Because of this, we were able to go and see a lot more of Alaska. It was the first time for both of us to be in Alaska, and I think it was one of the best vacations of my life. My daughter was so impressed that she had her own bedroom with private bath and lots of room to hang her clothes in the closet. The beds were wonderful, and so much more comfortable than a lot of motel beds I have slept in. Carson takes pride in his property, and you can tell by the way it is kept up and very clean. Carson, Thank you so much for making our vacation so great for us. I had never met you before, and I appreciate your hospitality so much for making us feel so welcome. The pictures do not do justice to the newly renovated space. We had everything we need plus the VERY friendly owner was more than generous and accommodating. Would absolutley stay here again should I travel to Alaska in the future!

This place was excellent. A home away from home. My wife and I were coming down from Barrow to have our second child and this place downstairs was remodeled (nothing like the pictures). There was more than enough room for four of us. I do not see why anyone would write bad reviews to this place. The owner made sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. We use vrbo everytime we go on vacation and I would say this is the best yet. If we ever come back to anchorage, this would be the place we would stay at.

I actually didn't spend the night here, but I was in and out all day for the three days family friends rented it this summer to attend their son's wedding. It is a really nice space and had all the amenities one would need for a long stay. The owner even allowed them to leave quite late on their last day there. We used it as a home base for wedding prep, doing hair, food, etc. It was a great home away from home as I saw. Large side by side fridge, new counter tops and floor, laundry and multiple bathrooms. It seemed clean from what I saw, no complaints. Just thought I'd help out the review stats from the bad review which does not seem like the experience we received.

I almost by-passed this placed based on the previous review. I'm glad I didn't! Five of us stayed in this duplex. It was ideal for us. The owner couldn't have been nicer to work with. He never came in our duplex with out our invitation and then was hesitant. We stayed in the lower part of the house and he stayed in the upper part of the house which he entered from the outside. Our unit had been recently remodeled and was beautiful. This house was everything we hoped for and more. When we return to Anchorage (hopefully next summer) this will be the first place we check on.

The kitchen has been newly remodeled and is really nice, the place has been recently painted, and the neighborhood is pretty quiet. The pictures on the website of the interior are actually of the owners place upstairs. They really should update the photos b/c the actual place is way nicer than it looks in the pics. There is a phone that you can make local calls on, but not a way to receive any calls. The internet works most of the time, but if it does go out during the day you'll have to wait for the owner to come home from work to reset it upstairs. There is no way to watch DVD's in the living room, only in the two smaller bedrooms. The day I arrived it was apparent that the place had been tidied up, but not cleaned since the last guest - there were beer bottle caps on the kitchen floor, dishes in the dishwasher, a used towel in the bathroom, clothing left in a dresser, and hair on the pillow case. I spent my first day cleaning up. A few weeks into our stay the owner came downstairs to unstop a clogged toilet. While he was in the apartment he started looking through the bedrooms and making comments about how "filthy" the place was. It was not dirty! There was just normal clutter of people living there - shoes on the rug in the entry rather than on the rack, dishes in the sink, a microwave popcorn bag and some paperwork on the coffee table, and laundry in the bedroom (it was washing day so the darks were on the floor while I used the only basket for the whites). He was really rude and judgmental. I felt very offended. I am a teacher in a rural community in Alaska. As all women who live off the road system, I had to spend the last weeks of my pregnancy in Anchorage waiting for the baby to arrive. When I first made the arrangements to rent this place I explained that our departure date would be variable depending on when the baby actually arrived. It was important to me that we be able to stay longer if we needed. We paid upfront for an entire month with the understanding that if we needed to stay longer we could switch to the daily rate. The owner said that wouldn't be a problem since it was the slow season and not likely to be rented out again right away. He seemed really understanding on the phone. When the baby was overdue though I talked to him about staying a few extra days, and was told that we would have to get out by the originally scheduled date. All of a sudden we had to make arrangements and move into a hotel.
