The beautiful cottage retreat is the perfect home away from home! This property is set in the heart of the village, close to the local restaurants, the grocery store and lots of fun activities. The village of El Castillo is tucked in the rainforest, in the mountains, on lake Arenal. Home to about 240 'ticos' and about 12 Americans, this village has lots to offer! If it is action and adventure you are looking for try zip-lining through the rainforest at Sky Trek Adventures or go exploring on horseback to one of the three waterfalls and take a swim. Kayaking is always fun and what a way to catch some sun and some fish!! Go rappelling or canyoning at Rancho Margot or white water rafting for even more adventure. You can go to The Butterfly Conservatory or The Snake Zoo all right here in Castillo! When it is time to unwind after a long day of adventure, nothing will soothe your bones like a soak in the free Hot Springs! This village may be small, but can pack a huge vacation!

This little cottage is charming, has a beautiful yard and the deck out back has an unbelivable view of the Arenal volcano and lake! The murals on the walls are delightful! We enjoyed our stay in this little village of El Castillo. It is a great location to get to everything. Nancy was a great hostess - got us a rental car immediately when we inquiried about it. We personally think you need a car here - at least, we did. Be sure to go to Nancy and Z's bar, Howlers - great view of the lake. Their french fries were delicious-the hamburgers and hot dogs look great also but we are not red meat eaters so we didn't try them. Try the soda across from the church - we had the best grilled Talapia fillet I think we have ever had there. Be sure to check out the Butterfly Conservatory - it is just up the road from the cottage. It was extremely interesting. Also, be sure to go to the hot springs at Tabacon. We spent a whole day there - wonderful!. If you are going to spend the whole day, go ahead and pay for the lunch or dinner. It is cheaper than buying the meal by itself. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, looking at the fabulous view and birds, sipping wine - that makes life good! The people of Costa Rica are lovely - so warm and friendly. Pura Vida! Bob and Mary JaneRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have just finished two weeks here at casa mirador, and it has been amazing! the kids have loved playing in the yard, going exploring and playing tag with the neighboring kids at pizza johns! The neighbors are helpful and friendly, and nancy was a great hostess. Any minor hiccups that occurred were dealt with as fast as they could. Overall the house is located excellent with an amazing view. Clean an very comfortable. I think we may be the first guests to stay here, and would definately come back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

My boyfriend and I got our first opportunity to travel together and decided to rent a house in El Castillo. This house was SO PERFECT! We had the opportunity to explore the small town, being so close to everything! We didn't have a car so it worked out. The house was so beautiful; the colorful murals on the walls, the relaxing bedrooms, all the kitchen amenities, and the AMAZING view from the backyard!! Nancy and Z were the absolute best in handling any questions we had about the town and booking our itinerary! Going horseback riding, ziplining, and white water rafting made our trip one of the best experiences I've ever had. I'm already planning on returning, but this time I'm bringing the whole family!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
