Lovely direct bay-front 3Bedroom/2Bathroom/2Car-Garage Home with caged, heated swimming pool, lighted boat dock on Lemon Bay, and deeded beach access. Located on almost 1 acre in the Sarasota County section of Manasota Key, this home is nestled in an abundance of tropical foliage and trees, and offers one the ideal private 'island getaway.' Free high-speed internet access and satellite TV.
This home has a large open-floorplan in the living and dining areas. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and ensuite 3-piece bathroom. The guest bedrooms have a queen bed and a trundle bed. This home is suitable for a wheelchair in most rooms, limited accessibility in the bathrooms.
Manasota Key and its surrounding waters are a wildlife refuge. You will see bottle nosed dolphins, manatees (sea cows), pelicans, herons, egrets and many other birds. Sea turtles nest on the Key from May to October. The Gulf and Bay have excellent fishing: snook (robalo), various types of snapper, bonefish, grouper, spotted seatrout (weakfish) and tarpon are all caught here. In season there are blue and stone crabs. You can try your luck right off our private, lighted dock.
The Gulf is normally quite gentle without the surf of the Atlantic Coast. One of the unique characteristics is the abundance of sea shells and prehistoric sharks' teeth and other fossils found on our beach.
For more activity, boat rental and charter boats are available nearby. Also, you may rent bicycles, kayaks, or jet-skis. The quaint old town of Boca Grande is a terrific place for lunch. There are a number of tour boats that give tours of Lemon Bay, Charlotte Harbor and the small islands in the area like Don Pedro, Little Gasparilla, Useppa Island, and Cabbage Key (where Jimmy Buffet was before Key West). Perhaps you will find Gaspar the Pirate's treasure or see artifacts from the Calusa Indians who settled this area.
Not far is Sarasota with the Ringling Art Museum, Mote Marine Aquarium, the spectacular Selby Gardens and shopping on St. Armand's Key. The Myakka River State Park, east of Sarasota, is Florida's largest state park, it's a special place to visit for its 45 square miles with 40 miles of trails through pine flatwoods, dry prairies, oak-palm hammocks, and freshwater marshes. Canoeing and airboat rides are offered. 250 bird species visit the park This is a special place as is Oscar Scherer State Park in adjacent Osprey, FL. It hosts four of Florida's endangered or threatened species.
Boca Grande holds a number of big time fishing contests for tarpon and other game fish in the spring and summer.
In Port Charlotte you'll find big-league spring training and a minor league team through the summer. (Also in Sarasota, Bradenton and Fort Myers). Farther afield are Fort Myers, Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades. The amusements of Orlando (Disney, Sea World and so on) are a little over 2 hours distant. Tampa and St Petersburg are closer still. These make a fine day's excursion.
