We liked this house a lot. I would stay there again. The house and property are accurately described. Here's more details: there is wireless internet (and management quickly responded to my request for the wireless password). Three bedrooms have 1 bed (king or queen). Two bedrooms have single beds. [One room with the single beds is very big, huge really. The other room with the single bed is the room with the trundle-bed and that room is very small. But we put two people in it: one on the single and one on the pull-out trundle-bed, which left no room to walk in the room, yeah, it's small.] The living room couch is a pull-out bed. There are two full baths and 1 half-bath. Two-car garage and parking for more cars in the large driveway. If it's hot outside, you'll have to open windows and doors or some of the bedrooms will get hot, but with windows open, natural air conditioning (trade winds) keeps it cool. We had 10 people. House fit us all easily. House was clean and had enough dishes, towels, sheets, blankets, laundry detergent, etc. for all of us. House has enough for up to 12. The views are beautiful from the house. We loved watching the ocean from the kitchen and dining areas. If you have small children, they will need to be watched because it is on the ocean and it's a powerful ocean there. Swimming is definitely NOT an option, and when big swells crash up on the rocks, it could sweep you away if you are standing on the edge. Gorgeous to watch and hear. Ron and Mark who manage the house were friendly and competent -- quick to reply when called/emailed, they promptly returned the deposit. They left us feeling in good hands. Travel time to Hilo airport is 30 minutes or a bit more if traffic.

We stayed at Hale O'kealoha Ala Kai for a week and found it very clean, relaxing, quiet and comfortable. Well, quiet if you don't count the crashing of waves on the lava cliffs, which we enjoyed so very much. We arrived the same time as a storm which brought 12 ft swells along this stretch of the coastline. The waves sounded like thunder and threw ocean spray half way to the house and the mist all the way to the house. It was AWESOME! This was a two day event and after that it quieted down to the normal ebb and flow of the ocean waves on the lava rocks. We sat outside for hours, trying to read but unable to keep our gaze off the incoming swells. There were four of us, two couples each celebrating our 25th Anniversaries. When I look for a vacation rental my first priority is comfortable furniture, especially if we are going to be staying a week. Furniture and beds here were very comfortable. Full kitchen is another must have and this kitchen was large enough that three of us could work in there without tripping over each other. Kitchen is well supplied but I would suggest that the warped and scratched skillets need to be replaced. Hale O'kealoha Ala Kai may seem a bit remote but we found driving into Pahoa or Hilo for shopping or meals was not a problem. The neighborhood is quiet and a great place for walking. We used the pool and the water temp was perfect and pool clean and well maintained. We would absolutely stay here again.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
