Artists' Retreat is a great way to unwind! I am a no frills kinda gal in the typical sense, so this was right up my alley. Despite Mary's description as having elements of "roughing it," she adds other delightful "extras" that make your stay comfortable and relaxing. She is very accommodating, including my pup. The location is an easy drive into Traverse City and all the sights and activities in the area, but it is just as nice to simply stay on the lake and read, kayak or experiment with the art supplies Mary provides. All in all, a great experience. Highly recommend!Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was a pleasure having you stay at Artists' Retreat! I'm so glad you enjoyed! Bailey misses Farley already! Hope to see you again sometime soon, Mary

My husband and I rented this cottage for our 3 year anniversary and had a great time. The cottage was a little small for us cause we did have our dog with us, but we managed. It was nice out so we didn't care cause there was plenty to do outside. Mary was great she provided us with lots of things to do. I defiantly recommend asking for the painting supplies. We had a great time doing that! Also enjoy the row boat, the lake is beautiful. The fishing was great, so I'd you are into that I would suggest bringing your fishing stuff. And just like Mary said... You will enjoy the instant hot water shower, but keep in mind it is outside. There is no cable or radio but when the weather is nice you don't even think about it. The cottage is very close to Traverse City so it was nice to go into town for the day. We had a great time and would recommend this to others. Thank you so much for everything Mary.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: It was a pleasure having you stay at Artists' Retreat! thank you for the honest review - We had some bumps along the way... You were my first renters, and you helped me iron out the "wrinkles." You were lovely guests. We miss you already!

We really enjoyed our time at the Artists' Retreat! The tiny yet adorable cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Mary, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and that our every need was met. It's a great setting and a truly unique experience. We'll definitely plan a return visit.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, it was truly my pleasure! Mary

About the owner: Hi. I'm an Art Therapist, and I love helping people become more creative. At Artists' Retreat, you'll find all kinds of fun art supplies awaiting you. I've been coming to Spider Lake every summer for 50+ years and I am SO LUCKY to be living here full time now! There is something special about our lake and property, and I want to share that with you. Happy sigh! My goal is to make Artists' Retreat such a great place to visit that I'll have repeat guests, coming back every summer to keep enjoying! While you're here, just ask me if you need something. You'll find excellent response time!
Why the Owner Chose Traverse City:
I am one of the luckier homeowners, with a long stretch of a slowly sloping sandy beachfront! Spider Lake is a kettle lake, so most of the waterfront properties don't have a sandy beach...
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
With this rental, you will love Artists' Retreat for its charm, its location and the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore. You have a small dock and a rowboat and a kayak...I have supplied Artists' Retreat with brochures from area attractions, plus a map of Spider Lake and Traverse City.
