We had a wonderful time at Nethermead. The house is clean and comfortable. All we could see from the windows were the woods. Mark was very responsive to us when we ran into a minor issue with the house.

Perfect Catskills Retreat!
Perfect Catskills Retreat!
One of the best vrbo rentals we've stayed at! The house is immaculate and thougtfully decorated. Gorgeous kitchen, comfy beds, nice big deck out back and 2 creeks running through the property. The Sauna was a real treat and our son loved running around exploring, playing in the creek and in the adjacent cottage. Deer came through the property each morning, and a little garter snake ketp us company out on the deck. Even though it rained almost the whole time we were there, we still had a great time. And Mark, the owner was a delight to deal with.

Perfect for Families
Perfect for Families
The property was stunningly beautiful, serene, private, and quiet. The main house is new construction with a large, open, airy design with new and well-thought out fixtures. We found the house to be clean with comfortable, fresh bedding and everything we needed in the kitchen. The grounds were great for the kids. There are 2 streams (1 being a babbling brook that the kids loved to walk across in their flip flops) and a few trails with walking bridges going through the woods. One of the trails leads to a cool little sauna built in its own mini-cabin in the woods, however we didn't use it. Behind the house is a functioning hand well and an old, hand-built writer's studio that is really a beautiful work of art in and of itself. The owners provide a good, thorough guide prior to your arrival and are great communicators. This is our 4th Catskill rental over the past 2 years and I can honestly say our search is over. We will, without a doubt, be repeat customers!

A Magical Experience
A Magical Experience
This past March, my husband and I and our friends decided we needed a BREAK from the concrete jungle. My husband is an 8th grade teacher in Brooklyn and I work in advertising, so needless to say the vacation was NEEDED. We took advantage of his and our friends scheduled Winter School Break and organized a group vacation. I literally scoured the internet for the perfect "just enough far away" getaway from Brooklyn where we could be somewhat remote, and after searching we found NETHERMEAD. The main house was absolutely stunning, BEAUTIFUL state-of-the-art and well thought out in terms of layout. Downstairs was a kitchen with beautiful wood counter top where we cooked epic dinner meals each night and generally just sat around chatting and relaxing (it brought us all together), the kitchen opened up loft style to a living area with a actual dinning table and where there was plenty comfy couch space, a real fireplace, shelves of books. In addition, on the 1st floor off to the side there was a full bathroom (w/glass shower and new fixtures) and an energy efficient luxury washer/dryer unit tucked away; my clothes have never been cleaner! The second floor has another full bath (pristine tub to soak in) and two bedrooms that were separated by a catwalk that allows you to look down into the living area. All with recessed lighting and huge windows with beautiful views on each floor. NOW for the best part. From the main house, the sliding doors in the living area opened to a spacios deck (with BBQ) that connects to an old vintage writers cottage were my artsy friends stayed in. The cottage had stained glass windows and comfy/cozy accommodations in terms of furniture and bedding. The cottage also had a mini kitchen and breakfast deck, but we never used it as the main house kitchen was plenty sufficient. Now for the BONUS, there is small creek nearby and adjacent to that was a SAUNA HOUSE. Amazing!!! My friends and I made breakfast each day (oatmeal with blueberries, or eggs and breakfast sausage and French pressed coffee) and then would set out for a hike in one of the very many hiking trails nearby that are gorgeous. Then, we'd go grocery shopping, come home and do yoga and then Sauna it up to heal any tired muscles before eating dinner. It truly was a magical place. My friends and husband and I still talk about it often and we can't wait until next year. We're hoping to make this an annual event if not a twice a year treat!!! Stay here. You will not regret it! :)

Wonderful NethermeadGuest comment entered by owner
Hi Mark, We are heading back in 1-87 and since I'm sitting in the car I just wanted to send you a note to say thank you for letting us stay at wonderful Nethermead. It's a really gorgeous place and we really enjoyed all the wholesome rejuvenating offerings. We hiked byrdcliffe, snake rock, and overlook trails, cooked and schvitzing in the sauna almost every night. Everyone loved it. Thanks again!

My wife and I and our 3 year old daughter stayed at this property for a weekend in early February. We had a truly unforgettable getaway. The property is exactly as pictured in the listing -- brand new, impeccably clean and fully loaded (e.g. wifi, TV, washer/dryer, dishwasher, built-in speakers, bbq, etc.). All the furniture appears brand new also, as do the sheets and bedspreads, etc -- it felt more like a cozy hotel retreat than a VRBO. The house is well illuminated with natural light from all sides and the big windows look out onto forests and a old fashioned water well. One of the most pleasant aspects of the property is that the house is well off the main road so you feel entirely surrounded by nature -- at the same time as being two minutes from downtown woodstock, restaurans, shopping, etc. When we pulled-up on Friday afternoon there were deer eating the grass on the front lawn. Our daughter had a lot of fun exploring the walking paths, collecting rocks and sticks and throwing ice into the stream. While dad used the ice cold stream to wash down after a rejuvinating sauna. (The sauna house by itself is worth the price of admission!) The owner was very friendly and helpful. All instructions were clear and concise, and he was able to recommend restaurants and hikes. The one thing we would recommend is to pick up a little firewood to get the fires (house and sauna) started as the wood on the decks can be cold and hard to light. We already cannot wait to return and are eager to try out the deck and other summer amenities. In our mind, it is certainly a place worthy of repeat visits.

About the owner: We live in Brooklyn and spend weekends in Woodstock. This place reminds us of the Nethermead area of Prospect Park, with its meandering paths, rolling landscape, mature trees and babbling brook.
Why the Owner Chose Woodstock:
We fell in love with the sloping land, two streams, footbridges, glades, massive boulders and wonderful norman-style cottage. There is so much beauty here that it cannot be described with mere words or photos.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When we bought this property, the historic cottage was the only structure on the land. There was no driveway, electricity or running water and one had to hike through the woods to get to the cabin - it was a true camping experience. This land is very special and we have developed it with extreme care and respect for its history and natural surroundings.
