- Costambar beach is an abundance of coral, some of which comes right up to the beach. There are patches of the sea suitable for swimmers where you can go out of your depth, just be careful to keep an eye on the coral reefs, most of which are clearly visible. You don't have to leave Costambar to find bars, restaurants, a 9-hole golf course, a Spa, horse back riding, tennis courts, racket ball court and much more all at walking distance. Just two miles away in the nearby village of Cofresi you will find Ocean World Adventure Park, boasting the largest dolphin lagoon in the Caribbean, as well as sharks, sea lions and variety of marine life and tropical birds. There's also a Dolphin Encounter program and a shark interaction pool. Scuba Diving A choice of dive shops take all levels of enthusiasts out to sites off the north coast, and the coral reef, underwater caves and shipwrecks that lie beneath. Sosua, just east of Puerta Plata, is one of the most popular sites and easily reached from Costambar. Nightlife Ocean World also features a discotheque with an amazing view of the ocean and great music; a casino, with slots, roulette, poker tables etc; an excellent restaurant... 24 hours of fun! Must see is the Bravissimo Show. Maybe even better than Las Vegas's dance shows because here the rhythms are Caribbean and they make you dance in you chair from the beginning until the end. ...moreless

Great relaxing vacation
Great relaxing vacation
I traveled to the DR with my parents and brother, and was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the house was. The pictures accurately reflected the house, which I was not entirely expecting. The house was perfect for us to relax and hang out, swim, play games, and enjoy the view. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the wonderful staff, Bruno, Natacha and Yohanny, who were essential in making our trip so memorable. They keep the house so tidy, and they whipped up amazing dishes in the kitchen. They were so warm and kind and we really loved waking up to their company. The beach at Costambar is only a few minutes walk from the house, and it is a beautiful and picturesque place you could spend the day, swimming, eating and drinking. Most things you need or want to do are close, either within walking distance or you can get there by taxi. The property manager is very helpful in arranging transportation. Overall our stay was a wonderful experience, but there were a couple of negative points that should be mentioned. First, we could not get the A/C units to function so the house was a bit warm. Second, there are two large Mastiff dogs on site who are there for your protection and are very friendly. However, the dogs like to try and escape, which they successfully did twice. The locals are pretty afraid of the dogs, so we were quite concerned with getting the dogs back into the yard. While the dogs were nice to have around for safety, they did make it difficult to go in and out of the gate and were a pain to try and herd back to the house. The largest problem we had was the owner, who was gone for the first 6 of our 10 day stay, but stayed in the upper unit of the property for the remainder of our trip. Having the owner there, along with his guests, diminished the feeling of having a private villa all to ourselves, so before you book make sure you ask if the owner will be staying at the property while you are there. Again, we had a wonderful trip and the staff was amazing, and as long as the owner is not on site, I would recommend this property to a friend.

From the start Ingrid was a joy to work with. She delivered on all of her promises and made the planning easy. She was always responsive, accurate with her responses and interested in what would work for our party of four. If you are looking for a clean, well run, fun and enjoyable place to be with chef, housekeeper and gardener, then look no further. Thanks to Natacha and Bruno and our great chef Francisco. All in all a great trip. Thansk Ingrid.

Our Wonderful Time in Costambar
Our Wonderful Time in Costambar
"Perla" is a charming villa where we were all pampered by Federico and Carolina, who attended to our every need. We enjoyed delicious meals caringly prepared, scrumptious sunset cocktails and delightful sunshine. Ingrid made everything so easy, arranged our trips and helped us decide the best way to enjoy the island! The villa was kept spotlessly clean. We enjoyed being picked up on the beach for a wonderful horseback ride through Costambar's lovely countryside. This was a terrific chance to relax including the sound of the ocean lulling us to sleep every night ... Thank you Federico, Carolina, Bruno and Ingrid...we will return!

Manager response: Thank you for your review Wendy! We too enjoyed your stay and are happy that you experienced "Perla" as a great place to escape from a busy lifestyle. Sometimes we really need to relax, recharge, reflect and be nice to ourselves to "load up our batteries". We sure hope to see you and your lovely family again.
What a great experience. My girlfriend (whom is from the DR), Mom, Dad, and myself decided we would visit the DR for our vacation. Initially we looked at the all inclusive resorts but after talking it over with my family- decided the villa was more our style. The community was great, close restaurants to walk to, the public beach, a small market. It really had all you would need within walking distance. Not to mention that the backyard is the Caribbean.. The staff was very supportive and helpful. It was nice to be greeted with some locals each morning. They made you feel like you were taken care of. I would recommend this experience to anyone who does not want the typical hotel all inclusive, waiting in lines, time share experience. It was a vacation but it was also a good cultural experience, plus a bit of an adventure. I don't think you need to speak Spanish to enjoy this trip- of course it helps. But in no way is it a show stopper. Most people we met spoke English and were always smiling, and willing to help. We had a car and that was great to get out and see the many sites and restaurants in Puerto Plata. But it seemed that you could easily get a driver and make arrangements with the staff if you did not want to drive. I would think that this would be a good vacation for a family with kids, as well as a large group of adults. The Villa was large and setup to handle kids running around or adults enjoying the ocean breeze with a rum drink of your choice. I cant wait to go again!

Manager response: Thank you Daniel for your review that encourages us to keep up a high service level and to look for even more ways to pamper our guests. The private villa experience is indeed not comparable with a stay in an all inclusive resort since it is totally focussed on the individual wishes and desires of the guests. It is also a perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the country, its culture and to meet the lovely people of the Dominican Republic. We hope you will have a chance to visit us again!
I visited Costambar in September and throughly enjoyed my stay. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful scenery. The service was excellent at all times and the whole experience was very enjoyable. If you are searching for a peaceful beautiful atmosphere to enjoy your holiday choose this villa every time!! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I stayed at villa with my family in September and was unsure what to expect as I have never vacationed in Costambar. The villa was appointed beautifully and the staff was amazing. After a fabulous breakfast prepared by the maids at time requested, we walked the beach, then enjoyed cocktails of our choice by the pool, had a light lunch and in the evening enjoyed dinner on our own private beach.. Seven days of BLISS. If you want a perfect holiday with no stress, this is the place to stay.
