Lower Riviera house description
Award winning 3/3, gorgeous city/ocean views, close to amenities. Check out the reviews! Only available for since 10/12.
Unobstructed views overlooking the city, ocean and channel islands were maximized during a second story addition and complete remodel of this family home in keeping with its original 1904 character. Hand-crafted elements, fixtures, finishes and top-line details were used throughout as televised on tv's THIS OLD HOUSE program.
The beautiful decoration of the home and gardens, including the art and antiques, combine to present a very well appointed, comfortable home in the fine arts and crafts tradition. The outstanding views are enjoyed from the master, master deck, guest room, living room, entrance, office, deck and covered porch/outside living room.
The location is perfectly situated, a short distance to the mission, historic parks, kids world, downtown and the 25c state street shuttle to the marina, beaches, shopping, zoo, and picturesque Montecito. This luxurious home is lovingly filled with quality, taste and all the amenities for your visit to Santa Barbara, 'America's Riviera'.
The remodeled home
This spacious 3 bedroom/3 bath home, with, family room, dining room, office and chef’s kitchen, also has an outside living room on its 15’ x 20’ covered porch as well as 3 patios, & terraced flower and veggie gardens. The luxurious home is located in the perfect a spot to ensure your visit is comfortable and unforgettable. Quality details are throughout, inspired by a love of the arts and crafts tradition including art & antiques to enhance your vacation experience.
Chef’s kitchen w/ prep & eating bar
All the equipment and appliances one could need are located in this cheery, cherry kitchen. Hardwood floors welcome you into the space where the family can just hang out or prepare meals for dining in the adjacent dining room or al fresco on the many patios or on the front porch to enjoy the views.
Master bedroom & upper deck
The romantic 1000 sq. Foot second-story master suite (king bedroom, en-suite, & library) has vaulted ceilings, venetian plaster (throughout the home), and is completely private and separate from the downstairs living areas. The sunny, well-appointed bedroom has a stunning view with an attached 14’ x14’ private deck, the perfect place to enjoy a nice morning coffee, sunbathe or enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sail boats, sunset, or just to relax and enjoy the stunning views and serenity. The en-suite master bath has a jacuzzi and soaking tub as well as separate shower, with all in the finishes of the a & c period.
Both guest bedrooms provide queen-sized beds and luxurious linens with plenty of space to stretch out and make you feel at home. These comfortable rooms/suites are located away from one another and from the master, affording more privacy to each guest.
Awards & TV program remodel
The PBS TV program, THIS OLD HOUSE, showcased the transformation of this 1904 charming bungalow into a stunning arts and crafts beauty, now available for the first time. A seven-episode DVD highlights the challenge, and the transformation, of remodeling this home into the award winning showpiece it has become. (Santa Barbara beautiful annual award, TV, books, & magazines.)
This fine craftsman home is lovingly filled with quality, taste, amenities and convenience for your next visit to beautiful Santa Barbara.

Lovely Santa Barbara Home
Lovely Santa Barbara Home
We stayed at this property twice in 2 months!!! It is every bit as comfortable and clean as described. This is an ideal set up for 3 couples as each bedroom has it's own bathroom and the home is spacious enough for 6 adults to gather comfortably...though you'll be hard-pressed to leave the front porch and the spectacular views! The owner was so very accommodating to our schedule and needs. The location is ideal for a Santa Barbara getaway. I highly recommend this property and would definitely stay here again.

Owner response: Thank you Susan, so much for the wonderful review! For 40 years now i too have been enjoying the house & views while taking care of THIS OLD HOUSE. It gives me great pleasure to know that I've created a warm, inviting place for families to enjoy one another and am gratified that yours too, appreciate our work at THE GRAND. I will look forward to seeing you when you visit Santa Barbara next time! Best regards, jan
The house was beautiful. The view was amazing. Jan, the owner, was very attentive and cared if we had a good time! We stay at many VRBO properties and this was one of the best! We highly recommend this property

We stayed in the house over 4th of July and had the best time-- there were 3 couples. The house was spectacular-- better than the photos. The view is amazing-- we spent hours on the front porch just hanging out, talking, sleeping and taking it all in. The house is just 5 mins up the hill from the beach and 2 mins from town. We had lunch just up the hill from the house at El Encanto-- which was really special. We would definitely stay there again.

Owner response: Thank you Jim so very much for the review. I'm so glad you and your guests enjoyed THE GRAND and Santa Barbara. Staying for a whole month must have been relaxing and now you're a 'local', right? You ate at all our best restaurants and I'm jealous! It was great sharing the evening with you and your friends at our Yacht Club too. Come back again! You are most welcome. jan

What a wonderful Santa Barbara experience. This house is perfectly located close to State street and the heart of Santa Barbara. (It's also a nice little run to the beach on those cool, beautiful mornings.) The house amenities were plentiful, Jan has thought of everything. We picked lemons from the tree out back and made lemonade with some of her tools. But our favorite part of the entire house was the front porch with the comfy couches. We shared so many laughs and maybe even a few drinks out on that porch while looking out into the water. We can't wait to go back!

Owner response: Dear Lara and friends, I so appreciate that you enjoyed my home and location with your Santa Barbara wedding party. Yes, I agree, the front porch/outside living room is perfect for entertaining at any time of the day! I often say 'hello' and even 'goodnight' to my day as the lights of Santa Barbara reminding how very lucky I am to be there above the city I love, in this very special home! Thank you for noticing the comfortable, casual atmosphere I had hoped to achieve! Come back and visit again! Best wishes, jan
From the moment we entered the historic home there was a sense of peace and tranquility. After a long day of travel it was such a pleasure to arrive at such a welcoming location. Jan, the owner, was awesome to work with. Calling and answering emails promptly. Santa Barbara is a lovely town but staying in such a nice home made our visit so much better. The only negative was that we did not have enough time to spend lounging on the patio and decks. You can not go wrong staying at this home. Within 6 blocks of State Street but in a quiet neighborhood. Easy to get everywhere. It is evident that allot of thought, hard work, and love has gone into this home. Thank you for making our first visit to the west coast memorable.

Owner response: What a wonderful review. Thank you Beth! It's so nice that you noticed my 'extras' and loved the home as much as I do. It makes me happy to share it and especially have my planning, hard work, and collecting appreciated by you and my other guests! You left the home in wonderful A+ condition and boy, do I appreciate that. I hope you can return and enjoy THE GRAND and Santa Barbara again next year. (As it turned out, we both received awards, didn't we?) Best to you and your family, jan

"WONDERFUL TIMES- I WOULD CALL OUR STAY HEAVENLY"
"OUR VACATION HOME" As quoted from a 'Thank You' note from guest from March, 2012. "What a wonderful time we have spent at (address). To sit on the front porch in the fresh sea air and look out at the ocean is a treat in itself. Then to enter the spacious living room and peer throught the windows at the vastness of the sea is soothing and inspiring. Those two big bedrooms downstairs have comfortable beds, each with a bathroom. From there (kit, FR)one looks out on the beautiful terraced garden with places to enjoy the sunshine. What a marvelous experience it is to travel upstairs to the master bedroom with view the the sun setting over the city and ocean below. I would call our stay in this lovely decorated home to be heavenly. J.T.C., Los Angeles, CA

Easy transaction and excellent communication with homeowner. This home has beautiful views. The interior is warmly decorated. Towels and linens are luxurious. What a treat to have my own little garden to enjoy fruit and veggies from. The master jetted tub is a must. This home is nicely equipped with everything to make a very comfortable stay.
