Perfect Place for a Well-Deserved Break
Perfect Place for a Well-Deserved Break
Beautiful. Outstanding. Amazing. Perfect. Those are just some of the words we used to describe our stay at Plantation Landing. We took our board of directors on a long weekend vacation and decided Savannah was our destination. From the moment we saw Plantation Landing on VRBO, we knew we had to stay there. We actually moved our dates of vacation up a week in order to fit into their booking schedule. The house is well-appointed and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. There were rooms and space for everyone inside and out. We appreciated the cleanliness and fully stocked kitchen. The grounds are lovely, and we had a great time in the pool. Our men were even acting like teenagers with the rope swing! John hunted up a pool volleyball set that we used with much laughter all around. On top of staying in the perfect place, John was the perfect host. He shared history and stories we enjoyed, especially when we went out on his sailboat with him and "Lt. Dan." We would definitely love to visit Plantation Landing again. We highly recommend it!

When we arrived the owner herself was putting flowers from the property in vases all over the home. She took the time to ensure that everything was perfect The home is absolutely beautiful, a true southern plantation, with every amenity young or old could possibly want. We had all ages from 9-80, and every person had something to do on the property; whether it was crabbing in one of the ponds, swinging from the rope swing in the pool, or reading on the hammock. The home was immaculate, every room had comfortable linens, every bathroom, which there were more than enough, was well appointed. I believe every bedroom had a television too! I would watch tv while cooking in the kitchen, which had every amenity and was very easy to cook in. A few of us tried the sauna in the master bathroom, and the green marble leading up to the sunken jacuzzi bathtub was out of a hollywood movie. Some late nights we watched a movie in the giant screen family room, which had 2 single window beds and a loft in it, where the kids snuggled. The icing on the cake was the ride on the 48 foot sailboat by John, the owner, who gave us a little history on the island, Savannah, and the local yacht clubs. We saw many more dolphins on his sailboat ride than we saw on a paid dolphin tour! All in all we could not have had a more peaceful, relaxing, trip to Savannah if we tried. Highly recommend it.

My family and I had a contract to rent this house from 13 -17 June 13. Our reservation was made back in Apr 13. When we arrived at the home the homeowners were cleaning the house (some of the family got their about 15 minutes before time). It was not completely clean. As to our surprise when we arrived, we found out that there was a permanent tenant living in the basement. We were very surprise since the ad doesn’t mention anything about someone living in the basement or anything about a basement. The owner attitude got a little ugly toward us. I would recommend the owner putting in their ad about the permanent tenant so people can make an inform decision in reference to website. I would also recommend the owner hiring a professional cleaning service if someone is checking in and out on the same date. In the end the home gave us our money back for the rental, but we were stuck trying to find a place at the last minutes when family were driving 400 and 500 miles for this vacation. Would I recommend this property to someone: no.

Owner response: We want everyone who comes to Plantation Landing to have a first class experience. We deeply regret that this was not the case for this renter, and attempted to do everything we could to compensate for any inconvenience. In response to the house not being clean: the homeowners do use a professional cleaning service to sanitize the home top to bottom for every rental. They are also very hands-on when it comes to their home, and help with the cleaning and landscaping themselves as well. Check IN time (4PM) is very strict to ensure that the home is in top condition upon the guests arrival. Last minute touch ups of the floors and placing down the freshly cleaned bathmats were being done when the group of guests arrived early without notice. Their presence did encroach upon optimal standards of cleaning, but in efforts to accommodate them, we did our best to finish cleaning around them. Guests that arrive at the agreed upon check IN time have described the house as "immaculate". The Caretakers presence in the bottom basement is meant to ensure the safety of both the property and the renters in case of an emergency. The caretakers have separate entrances and parking, and share none of the amenities advertised on the site. Previous renters rarely even notice them, and due to the large size of the property, have never felt that their privacy was compromised- most renters never even see them during their stay. Even after this was explained to these renters, they were still left dissatisfied. I think that many would agree that it would be both ludicrous and negligent of basic safety regulations to leave over 150 acres of property in the hands of perfect strangers- not to mention the insurance policy would be astronomical, as well as would the security deposit. It is for these reasons that the need of a helpful hand is available to renters at all times- only to be seen/used in case of emergencies. We do agree that this needs to be better advertised, and we are making every effort to comply. Our deepest apologies go out to this party that had a less than the perfect experience we strive to provide our guests.
Our family has used VRBO multiple times, with wonderful results, but this home is exceptional. Plantation Landing is every bit as beautiful as we had hoped for, and more. It's perfect for relaxing- the views from the screened-in porch overlooking the water are breath taking. We enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, watching the tides come and go on the quiet and peaceful 150 acres. This home feels very warm, safe and inviting; it is on a private road with restricted access. Our teenagers enjoyed the heated pool, (with rope swing!), and exploring the tidal marsh every day. The kitchen is definitely a cook's kitchen- Sub Zero, Viking appliances, very well designed and well stocked. There is an oyster pit and bbq grill on the grounds, near the pool. The location could not be better, it is an easy drive to the beautiful historic district of downtown Savannah! We enjoyed our days in town exploring, shopping and eating great food! My husband enjoyed kayaking along the tidal creek several mornings. The highlight of our trip was sailing with the homeowner, John, on his magnificent sailboat! He was such a delightful host, and provided a relaxing tour of the beautiful local waters. The homeowners are so warm and welcoming- this family truly knows Southern Hospitality! We look forward to the day we return to Savannah, and stay at Plantation Landing.

Southern Charm on a private plantation.
Southern Charm on a private plantation.
Our family of ten, enjoyed our first Thanksgiving in this beautiful plantation home. The owners made sure we stayed very comfortable and made it so convienient to reach them at any time of day. They stayed in the lovely cottage on the walk to the deep water dock. We love to take walks all around the property and then watch the sunset from the dock. We also learned one of Paula Deans homes is only across the river. You can see it, If you get an invite to sail with the owner. He is an advid sailor and we had the sail of a lifetime. Truely unforgetable. I don't think we would have really known just how beautiful Savannah really is until we saw it from the water! Our family can not thank the family enough and we look foward to comming back. Our daughter is engaged and her dream is to have her reception at Plantation Landing. That is if they are not already booked. I dont think this beautiful home and sweet family will be able to have any openings available once people get to share this loveley home on the marsh with their family and friends. We also loved the animals indigenous to this Southern region. We saw everything from Fiddler crabs down by the marsh to beautiful Heron birds, but our favorite and most surprizing was the family of Deer licking drops of water from the palm trees!!

About the owner: Retired businessman with wife and five children who have all moved away. We still live in separate quarters on the property in order to take care of any special needs.
Why the Owner Chose Savannah:
This is the ultimate rental for privacy with over 150 acres, two spearate security gates, miles of walking areas, large dock good for swimming and lots of peace. This site was part of a Crown Grant given by King George II in 1765 and still has some areas used in the Civil War by Confederate soldiers.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
The house was rebuilt in 1991 including the addition of real Parthenon marble from Greece in the foyer, various imported hardwood floors from Brazil throughout the second floor, and installation of the actual wainscoting from the Hamilton House in downtown Savannah on the third floor library/stairwell.
