The Houghton Lake area has 200 miles of well maintained ORV and snowmobile trails. And we have lots of parking for your trucks and trailers!
Houghton Lake is known for its fishing! The lake has walleye, perch, bass, northern pike, and pan fish. The ice fishing is tops! We'll keep a cozy place here for you during TIP-UP TOWN!

This review is long overdue.... My family and I stayed the holiday week at Wakaigon. It was very relaxful! Nothing like getting up in the morning and having a cup of coffee as you gaze by the lake. My sons enjoyed fishing, swimming, tubing, and throwing the football around in the water. There was a charcoal grill provided, so it made having hamburgers and hotdogs easy for the 4th. The area has some nice restaurants nearby, which is nice for getting away and not having to prepare all the meals. The cabin was fully stocked with all kitchen appliances, glassware, etc. It was clean and in great shape. This is a great spot to bring the family! We decided to go ahead and book for 2013!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Nice clean cabins with all the dishes/appliances you need. Beach is fantastic. My son could go out 120 ft. and still only be waist deep in water, so I didn't have to worry about him. Came with a group and there was plenty of seating and huge green area besides the beach to play. They provided a row boat and canoe, shuffle board, disc golf, ladder golf and other things for us to entertain ourselves when we weren't in the water. We brought our bikes and were able to ride from the west shore resort to Dead Stream Damn to fish and jump off the damn and swim. The wi-fi, cable & free firewood were a great surprises.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: My name is Nancy Page. I am the owner of Wakaigan Shores Resort and I operate the property with my husband Jim, our son Garrett, and our daughter Skylar. It has always been our dream to live in northern Michigan and to own a business. We absolutely love operating this resort! We have met many wonderful people and made many friends. We live on the property and enjoy getting to know our guests!
Why the Owner Chose Houghton Lake:
Houghton Lake truly offers all the wonderful activities you expect of a Michigan inland lake. Additionally it is ideally located in the 'middle of the mitten' with easy access to all the wonderful things that bring people to northern Michigan. Day trips to attractions like Mackinaw Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Traverse City are all accessible from this ideal location.
When we saw Wakaigan Shores Resort we immediately fell in love. We have a beautiful lakefront piece of property located on the west side of the north bay which provides us with the calmest water on the lake. Our large property is well laid out to allow all our visitors plenty of room to enjoy outdoor activities.
The community of Houghton Lake is wonderful. It offers major chain shopping, some great restaurants and bars, a unique movie theater that shows first run movies, great golfing, canoeing, go-karting, and miniature golf.
Houghton Lake is a four seasons destination. Fall brings travelers looking for the spectacular foliage colors. The hunting is great for deer, bear, duck, and small game. Ice fishing is well known on Houghton Lake and culminates in the largest winter festival in Michigan; Tip-Up Town. There are over 200 miles of ORV and Snowmobile trails to enjoy just minutes from our property. Spring brings Turkey hunting and more fishing!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Wakaigan Shores has the charm and feel of the vacations your parents took you on when you were a child. Our large property offers plenty activities for the whole family! Enjoy your morning coffee on one of our bench swings looking out at the amazing sunrise. Shuffleboard and Ladder Ball are lots of fun! Despite the eastern view, we enjoy beautiful sunsets as the evening sun lights up Long Point across the bay. Evening brings families together around our two community fire pits to enjoy the spectacular night skies of northern Michigan.
