This boutique style, 2 bedroom, character house with its own private pool and garden in a typical village of the south of France is a gorgeous place to stay. The house was renovated between 2007 and 2010, in keeping with the cevenol style and decorated with modern french furniture in a design but understated style. The house is fully open plan. On the ground floor, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need such as toaster, coffee machine, juicer, picnic basket, dishwasher and we have added little details for gourmets such as a seafood platter, snail dishes and champagne glasses. Next door, with its cevenol ceilings and wooden beams, the dining room is perfect for having breakfast looking out onto the garden and the pool. You also have a wc and shower room, with quirky stone walls and antique mirror, on the ground floor. Next floor up, you have the twin bedroom, with shutters as bed heads and fitted wardrobes with antique closet doors; it has a very romantic feel. The lounge and tv room is next door and is spacious, great for a night in watching videos from the video library or listening to jazz or reading a good book. You also have wifi access in case you need to check your emails whilst away! On the top floor, you have the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The room is very spacious with very high ceilings and wood beams, it has a ceiling fan in the master room for the hot summer nights. The bathroom has a free-standing bath tub in the middle of it and a walk-in shower, very chic and indulgent! You access the garden through the dining room, walking down the garden steps. There you will find the garden table, chairs and parasol where you hopefully will spend most of your meals gazing at the landscape. You have an area where you can sit and read a book under the bay tree shade, or sun lounge with a nice refreshing drink. And if you fancy a dip in the water, you have an 8x4m pool to enjoy at your heart’s content. The village has a fun, pitch and put, 6 hole golf course and a great wine producer, a pizza man and you can buy organic food at one of the neighbor's houses. 5 minutes stroll, across the fields below the house you have the river gardon with all its wonderful flora and fauna. An evening stroll around the village is a delight too, perhaps taking in a game of petanque or visiting the children’s playground in the heart of the village.

The house is in the Gard region and very close to the Cévennes national park (Unesco World Heritage Site) with its beautiful wildlife, spectacular walking and mountain scenery; also very close are Anduze, Uzès, Nîmes and Montpellier, where you can do pretty much anything. Uzes in particular is a stunning medieval town with a wonderful midweek and Saturday market. The weather is warm and Mediterranean and in general the sun shines most of the year. It is a beautiful area, ideal for walkers and nature lovers where you can swim in the rivers if you need to cool off away from the house. There is so much sightseeing to be done in the area it’s difficult to know where to start. You can visit the stunning historical cities and towns (Uzès, Nimes, Montpellier) which still have some of the best Roman architecture in Europe (wonderful arenas). There are many activities you can do either on your door step or within 45 minutes’ travel: horse riding near the village, paragliding, hot air ballooning, kayaking through the gorges, flying over the Cévennes, fishing in the rivers, the list does not end! You will see many cyclists on the road (if you fancy burning off some calories) or if you prefer there are so many wine and history tours in the area you won't be bored. Closer to the house, there are some beautiful hilltop villages like Vézénobres with its dramatic views, Anduze is also wonderful to visit, all providing great food and local arts and crafts shopping. You have food markets in different towns close by for each day of the week, and flea markets abound regularly during the summer. The village itself is very tranquil except during the annual summer party when bulls run through the streets; this a weekend event which takes place in early August; this traditional village 'fête votive' is when the whole village comes to life for 3 to 4 days; also, in September they have the 'fête du patrimoine' when the history of the village is celebrated. You have many local wine cellars where you can taste wine, and if you need to get anything else Alès is 15 minutes away with all amenities. You can pop to Tavernes, Cardet or Ledignan, all within 5 minutes’ drive to get some food, have a coffee or a beer and get your morning baguette. Nearby you can buy either fresh vegetables and fruit from farm vendors by the side of the road or there are bigger supermarkets within 10 mins from the house. And for children there is also a lot too. There is a small playground in the village, you can do a trip on the mountain steam train from Anduze up to St Jean du Gard (which also has a beautiful aquarium). The main aquarium nearby is superb in Montpellier and there are a lot of adventure and water parks on your way to Uzes, Montpellier and Ales. There is even a zip-wire tree top adventure park 10 minutes from the house. Something hopefully to keep everyone entertained!!

About the owner: -
Why the Owner Chose Anduze: We were looking for a relaxed place to have family holidays in the South of France, a bit 'off the beaten track', where our newborn daughter would be safe to wander around and there would enough things for her to do as she grew up; that plus a place with the highest % of sunny days in France...... We fell in love with this house. It's a traditional, stone, 16th Century, village house which has been fully renovated whilst keeping its local charm both inside and out. Some modern touches have been added, to give it a bit more wow factor. It is quite unique in that even though you are in a village, when you are sitting on the terrace or by the pool, you really feel like you are in the middle of the countryside. It's very peaceful and you do get some spectacular sunsets. The surrounding area itself is gorgeous with the Cévennes mountains visible from the village (a great backdrop to the petanque pitch). The Languedoc-Roussillon is very much like Provence. The village is very charming, with very narrow streets (be careful with your TomTom!) and surrounded by vineyards, hill top villages and farmland. Every year they have a festival with bulls running through the village. Everything you could possibly need is within a 10 minute drive. Anduze, is the more bohemian town to the west, and Ales, a larger city, has all the larger shops and hypermarkets. The house is a few minutes away from river swimming, canoeing and has the Unesco Site of the Cévennes park on its doorsteps. Lots of brave cyclists head to the area. Further afield (but less than an hour away): Uzes - a beautiful medieval town, Nimes, Montpellier and the wildest beach in France, la plage de l'Espiguette, at about an hour away. Last but not least, a couple of minutes by car you have a local golf course, but if you fancy the real thing, you have 5 golf courses within one hour's drive.
The Unique Benefits at this House: The house is in a great location; it is near enough to everything and has so many activities on its doorstep that it appeals to all ages.
It is very near the Cévennes mountains and you will discover a very special and unspoilt part of France.
We are very fond of it and never tire of doing something new each time we visit. We hope you do too!
