                      • The area is steeped in history with many towns dating back to the 11th century and beyond. The rolling Normandy countryside is dotted with apple and pear orchards the fruits of which go to make local products, Cidre, Poire, Pommeau and, of course, Calvados. Most breweries are open for viewings and tastings. Other local products include cheeses such as Camenbert, Pont L'Eveque and Livarot and the famous biscuits from the Biscuiterie at Lonlay l'Abbaye. For the art lovers, Claude Monet spent a lot of his youth in the countryside around Le Havre but the love of his life was Giverny where he spent the last, 40 or so, years of his life. The famous Bayeux Tapestry (an embroidery measuring over 230 ft long) is to be found it the picturesque town of Bayeux. The Normandy Landing Beaches and War Museums, and the magnificent Mont St Michel, and just into Brittany for oyster lovers, the restaurants at Cancale, are not to be missed. The Bagnoles de l'Orne / Geneslay area La Coulonge is ideal for families who enjoy both a relaxing and a more active holiday. Close by you will find riding, golf, swimming, walking - countryside and forest, cycling, canoeing, there is also a nearby riverside picnic and kayak area . Bicycle rental information available. For those who would like a day's shopping or sight-seeing, Paris is just over a two hour train journey away. The town of La Chapelle D'Andaine is less than 1 km from the villa, there you will find, supermarket (open Sunday morning, closed Monday), a bank, church, 2 boulangeries, florist, butcher, pubs, fine dining restaurant, tabac, wine/Calvados store, DIY store, Garden Centre, Doctor, Dentist, Pharmacy, etc.... Local attractions include the Belle époque thermal spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne (5 minutes away), with its casino, cinema, theatre, auction house, shopping, antique shops, street cafes, fabulous restaurants, paddle boat on the lake, tree jumping adventure park, hikes in the forest of Andaines, velo-rails, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, golf (9 very nice holes), miniature golf…and it's beautiful floral displays. Weekly markets Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The medieval town of Domfront (10 minutes away) also has lots to offer, narrow cobbled streets, tiny shops, the ruins of the chateau, the church of Notre Dame sur l'eau, where, it is said, Thomas a Beckett said mass in 1166. Weekly market Friday mornings. La Ferte Mace, (5 minutes past Bagnoles de l'Orne) offers all amenities, including a huge supermarket, Leclerc, which opens through lunch time, you will also find a lakeside beach at La Ferte Mace, with children area, sandy beach, picnic area, snack bar, (follow signs that read Base de Loisirs). Weekly market, Thursday mornings....moreless

We had a wonderful holiday in your French home thank you. You have a lovely comfortable home which was probably the best house in France that we have stayed in. Was very impressed with the well stocked kitchen, comfy bed and power shower! It was a lovely place to spend our first holiday with our 3 month old daughter (also, thanks for the thick travel cot mattress!). Cannot think of any negative comments at all. We are thinking of coming back next year, it was a real home from home.

Your home is absolutely BEAUTIFUL (and MUCH bigger than we expected!) And your neighbors are lovely! Madam brought us over a jar of her delicious jelly (I think it was black current??). We enjoyed it on our croissants in the morning, and with the tasty camembert we picked up from…….you guessed it….Camembert! ?

I just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for enabling us to have such a wonderful spot to call home for a week. Everything exceeded our expectations. The adventures to the “super store” in Bagnoles were fun, the people were so friendly, and we had no problems finding the boulangeries, etc.! Our last dinner there we ate at the restaurant in the Bois Jolie Hotel in Bagnoles, and it was a fantastic meal. We loved the old castle at Domfront, as well as all our day trips to the Normandy Beaches, Mont St Michel, etc. Thanks again! Kris

La Coulonge is amazing - do not let this find slip through your fingers. This is clearly a much loved home and every conceivable requirement you may need is available. We received the warmest welcome and La Coulonge is certainly the cleanest stay we have ever experienced. The Owner gives clear concise information with local details ensuring your stay runs smoothly. La Coulonge is in an area that has so many interesting areas and attractions to visit whilst offering a quiet seclusion to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day. I do not know how the Owner can be apart from this home

A wonderful warm welcome, the best we have ever received, the outside light being left on for us was just so special. Both A. and I had a wonderful winter break at your absolutely fabulous French home. I padded around your home as if I were the Madam of the house, I have a wonderful imagination and thoroughly enjoyed myself keeping 'my' French home. There is certainly an essence of you there even in your absence. You just cannot help but respect such a wonderful home. I will certainly leave positive feedback and many thanks for popping the deposit back so quickly. We shall certainly be knocking on your door again if our travels take us past your home.

Hi Linda We had a fantastic holiday thank you. Your cottage is beautiful and it was a real pleasure to stay at your home. It really is a warm and welcoming home - we loved what you have done and came home with lots of ideas on what to do with our own home! The decor and furnishings, as well as the gardens, are beautiful. The La Coulonge area is also beautiful and we had a really relaxing time in and around the area. Your neighbour was also very kind and helpful, collecting in our washing when we were out on a rainy day. We loved Bagnoles and the kids loved the lake at La Ferte Mace. The chateau at Lassay was also beautiful. Many thanks for all your help and for opening your home to us. We hope to return one day.

Hello Linda Your house is so beautiful. The weather wasn't very nice but we still got out everyday to pretty much every direction and we did have a couple of nice days. Went to Juno beach, St Malo, Mont St Michel, The Loire Valley, Rouen and of course all the little towns around your house (Lassay Les Chateaux was my favourite). I think the towns in your area have so much more charm than the towns in the Loire valley and the towns driving back to Beauvais. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, it has everything anyone would want and more out of a rental. What a great place for you to retire! :)
