Imagine your next stay in the City of Light…. You return from a thrilling day of sightseeing or shopping, turn the key in the door and are stunned to discover you’re not in an impersonally decorated, tiny hotel room overlooking an air shaft!

Instead, you’ve stepped into a 550 square-foot private home aglow with light streaming through tall French doors and reflecting from 100 year-old honey-coloured parquet floors. Leaving your bags in the entry hall, you move into the spacious living area and pause to admire the collection of 19th century hand-colored prints and early 20th century original paintings depicting Paris landmarks. Removing your shoes and scrunching your toes into the soft wool of the colorful Persian rug, you stretch out on the sofa or sink down into one of the sleek Art Deco club chairs upholstered in buttery chocolate brown leather. Reaching for the remote control, you flick on the color television to check the latest cable news from CNN or the BBC, or slide a relaxing CD into the stereo. Not yet feeling quite refreshed, you slip into the kitchen to pop open a bottle of champagne you’ve been storing in the large refrigerator. Perhaps you’ll slice a little paté or cheese from the neighborhood’s organic market, and maybe tear off a piece of a baguette from the baker around the corner (who happens to be the official baker to the President of France). Taking your glass and plate, you head for the balcony to sit at the old-fashioned marble topped iron bistro table and watch the grandmothers leading children home from their schools. The buzzing of the intercom interrupts your reverie, and you realize that your three traveling companions must have forgotten their keys. Being less energetic than you, they have taken the elevator to the 3rd floor and now join you for an impromptu cocktail party on the balcony.

Conversation inevitably turns toward the making of dinner plans. Shall you call for reservations at one of the dozens of neighborhood restaurants—or perhaps choose something a little fancier? After all, the Champs-Elysées is only 15 minutes away! One of your more “plugged in” companions suggests using the apartment’s unlimited internet access to check for restaurant suggestions online. Finally, there’s always the stay-at-home option, taking advantage of state-of-the-art kitchen appliances and equipment to transform impeccably fresh ingredients from the local market into a gourmet dinner. Be careful not to burn dinner while watching through the kitchen window for the metronomic sweep of spotlights atop the Eiffel Tower just visible above the darkening rooftops of Paris. Another bottle of champagne ideally complements dinner as the four of you gather around the antique mahogany table.

After dinner, it’s off to the shower before heading out for a night on the town. The sparkling bathroom, filled with natural light by day, is generously lit from overhead by night. You are tempted to stretch out in the bathtub and close the glass door to shut out the world, but the nightlife of Paris is waiting. Even with the dishwasher running, you’re unconcerned about a lack of hot water to complete your shower. Drying off with luxurious embroidered velour towels, you’re wondering what kind of excitement the evening will have to offer.

Walking the three blocks to the Métro station, you comment that the location of your apartment seems a world away from the touristy hubbub of the Marais or St-Germain. Your friends agree and compliment the remarkable improvement of your French language skills since you’ve been talking with the friendly local merchants and residents who have seemed so delighted to find you enjoying their neighborhood.

Returning home, exhilarated but exhausted, you head for bed. Passing through the long hallway that separates your bedroom from the living space, you notice that you’ve not yet put away your clothing purchases from earlier in the day. You gather them up and arrange them in the bedroom’s three built-in double closets and marble-topped Louis XV marquetry commode.

You open the bedroom’s six-foot tall windows to the gentle courtyard breeze, select a Paris-themed novel or guidebook from the apartment’s library, turn down the damask comforter, throw an extra pillow on the antique queen-size Louis XVI bed, and slip between the downy soft 400 thread-count sheets. Just as you drift off, you may be faintly aware that your traveling companions are already asleep, in equal comfort, on the living area’s one-touch convertible sofa. You’ll have no other thoughts of your companions until morning, because all the conveniences of the bathroom, kitchen and even the entry to the apartment itself are accessible without disturbance. Ahh, the luxury of privacy!

The next morning, you wake to the sounds of birdsong and realize that although you've been to Paris before, you've NEVER been to Paris like this!

I've had a great stay in this lovely apartment. I will miss the pain au chocolat and the apricot tarts from the two great bakeries around the corner. The marche biologique on boulevard des Batignolles Saturday morning was terrific. I wish I could buy duck breast filets like that at home. I spent my days soaking up culture all around Paris. It was great to come back to the apartment, watch the Gilmore Girls in French, listen to the neighbor practicing piano and put my feet up.

The neighborhood is great, the market marvelous, and like DC, Paris is such a great walking city. We feel like we died and went to heaven!

It was a comfort to have this place to return to each day. Thanks for all the wonderful touches. The Batignolles neighborhood provided many satisfactions. The Saturday market galettes were delicious, as you advertised. To paraphrase a famous general, "God willing, we shall return."

We leave rue Truffaut tomorrow with sadness. This has been a wonderful week in my favorite city in the world. The apartment's perfect location made Metro access easy and we felt safe walking throughout the area. Thanks for making your home so comfortable for travelers. We would love to return.

These last two weeks have been wonderful and I am sad to leave. Usually, we stay in the 7th or 15th, but we stumbled on this arrondissement last year and thought it was almost like the 7th, but without all the touristy stuff. We love it here. It's almost impossible to walk one block without running into a boulangerie.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely apartment with me. It was spacious, tasteful and comfortable! I loved getting to know "my" neighborhood and would stay here again in an instant. I always felt safe and walked everywhere. Everyone was always nice and helpful.

We stayed here for a week for the first leg of our honeymoon. The apartment was everything that was promised in the website. The apartment was a great base for us as we explored the city.

It has been an awesome week! Paris is every bit the city we imagined it to be and we couldn't have had a better home base to tour from. The apartment is great. We look forward to another visit.

We are sad this evening as we prepare to leave your beautiful apartment behind and return home. Each of the last days, we've felt increasingly at home in the neighborhood. You have set the gold standard for rental apartments. We had everything we needed and more. The "guide book" you put together was extraordinary--especially after two weeks in a house in Provence where we had to fend for ourselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
