Millbrook estate description
This country style estate was entirely renovated in 1997 consisting of 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and attached to a great red barn including a hayloft. The house was entirely redecorated with careful attention paid to maintaining its charm and character of an old farm house. The property consists of 15 acres of land with two ponds of which the larger is spring fed, great for swimming, fishing and in the winter for ice skating. Our stunning gourmet kitchen is fully equipped and the center piece of our home and complete with an extensive cookbook collection!
The estate is close to both Millbrook and Rhinebeck and New York City is a 75 minute drive. There are many, cultural and sporting activities as well as colleges such as Bard, Vassar, Marist and the Millbrook School a short distance away. For health and wellness, the Omega Institute is a 5 minute drive from the property and the Culinary Institure of America is close by. There are many local markets, farms, apple picking and wineries as well.
While you are surrounded by nature and in a very private and quiet setting, there is a great deal of fun and exciting activities to explore close by - enjoy the best of both worlds!

Beautiful Vacation Home
Beautiful Vacation Home
It was the perfect spot for our two families (plus one extra friend) to spend the week together, exploring, cooking and relaxing. We each appreciated different aspects of the house and property: floating on the pond in a raft, making fires in the fire pit, and cooking, eating and even cleaning up in that kitchen! We liked looking through the book shelves and pitching a tent across the pond from the house. We had fun exploring the "neighborhood" as well - Hudson and Rhinebeck were fun and we had a great time at the FDR museum and library and an even better time at our late lunch at the bakery/cafe at the Culinary Institute. We picked blueberries and peaches (and then made pies and popsicles!) and walked up to the general store/cafe one day for breakfast. We also enjoyed a great production at Boscobel by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. In short, it was a delightful week.

If you are considering renting this property and have just scrolled through the pictures and read the description it will not give you an idea of how GLORIOUS this rental is. We just came home from our family vacation that included our 3 grown children and their spouses and their kids and everyone had a wonderful time. This is a spacious home with lots of separation and privacy in the space. That makes it perfect for a group. Every room has beautiful, comfortable furniture that is true to the Farm/Americana history of the home. The kitchen is gorgeous and large. It is the perfect space to "cook together" and enjoy family time. There is a state of the art BBQ and we used it almost every night. We were blessed with beautiful weather and much of our time was spent at the lake. If you are considering this property for a Summer vacation the lake will be the focal point of your days and evenings. This is a spring fed lake and the water is clean and clear. I can only imagine how magical this property would be after a snowfall! The grounds are immaculately kept. The setting is serene and calm. The owner was there to greet us upon our arrival and was very gracious and responsive to any questions about the house we had. There is much to do in the area no matter what season you visit. Take advantage of the proximity to the Omega Institute and the Culinary Institute, a visit to Hyde Park and visit the town of Rhineckeck.
