St-Cirq-Lapopie cottage description

The enchanting village, the white limestone cliffs, the fabulous Lot River, the wine, the food and most of all the culture will charm you endlessly. In a national contest in 2012, the French selected St Cirq Lapopie as its #1 Preferred Village in the entire country. It is officially—and justly—designated one of the most beautiful villages in France.
When you approach the village by car, you will drive on a road considered to be one of the prettiest in France. As you exit one of the limestone tunnels, you will look across the Lot River and see a beautiful medieval village perched on a 300 foot cliff. It appears truly suspended in time. You are there!
St. Cirq rolls the calendar back to the 13th Century. Our small, medieval house is in the very center of the village. You will be surrounded by beauty, inside and out. You enter the house through a garden area created from a ruin of a previous home. La Petite Perle has a renovated interior with a loft accessible by a boat ladder and where you will find a full-sized bedroom and bath (which is charmingly located behind a curtain). It even has an ancient fireplace taken from the castle that originally stood on the top of the bluff overlooking the Lot River.
The winding cobblestone streets are lined with shops and artist galleries. The church bells toll in the morning to wake you up, at noon to announce lunch and at seven to invite you to evening and to one of several fine restaurants in the village.

Year Purchased: 2002

About: We enjoy going to the local markets in the various surrounds villages to have a cup of coffee and experience the French culture. We always have enjoyed traveling in Europe. The location on our home gives us the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful medieval village and the area. In addition, we use our home as a jumping off point to travel in other countries and regions.

Why St-Cirq-Lapopie:
For years we dreamed of owning a property in France. We studied the country's eight regions and considered the popular coastline of Brittany, the magnificent chateaus of the Loire Valley and the rocky coast of the Cote d’Azur. We didn’t pick any of them. Instead we chose Southwest France and the Midi-Pyrenees. The area is the least populated and most protected from development. It is most purely 'France Profund.' In the National Geographic Traveler on France there was a picture of St. Cirq Lapopie and the caption which said “officially—and justly—designated one of the most beautiful villages in France.” On our way to see it the first time, we drove out of a limestone tunnel, looked across the Lot River and saw a beautiful medieval village sitting on the cliff. It was so breathtaking that we decided we would explore it next, if we did not like St. Cirq Lapopie. We drove across the river and up the hill, only to discover that the enchanting village we saw was indeed St Cirq! We were sold. We bought the only house for sale. Ten years later, and knowing a lot more about all of France, we wouldn’t change our decision.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We so enjoy spending time here--the medieval village, the people, the cuisine, the caves, the vineyards, the castles, the local markets in neighboring villages, and the culture. We enjoy walking, bike riding and kayaking.
