If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, then look no further! My husband and I stayed here for 9 days in late April/early May. The condo complex is very quiet. As you can see in the pictures there are lots of windows facing the ocean so you always hear the waves crashing in the background. We spent many afternoons just relaxing or reading a book on the lanai. The beach below (Hideaways) is a must! Be careful on the path down, but every step is worth it! Working with Peter and Elke was a breeze. One recommendation: it got a bit warm in the afternoon with the sun streaming in, pull the shade on the lanai and tilt a few of the shutters for a couple hours, it really helped cut down on the heat. Around dinner time we would open everything back up and then watch the sunset!

This condo was spectacular. Pictures don't do it justice! It was spotless, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully appointed. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could want and with very good quality dishes and cooking utensils. The people at the complex were helpful and friendly and the owner was very responsive. We wanted to spend the week in Kauai just relaxing, and we did, but we also had a wonderful time trying out new activities and exploring the island. All the while knowing we could return to the lovely community pool to relax before dinner. My husband said he actually felt like he was a guest in a friend's home, not just a vacation rental. This is a top notch rental.

My husband and I stayed here with our two boys, aged 11 and 13, over Spring Break 2013. We were extremely pleased with the condo's location and furnishings. Views -- Spectacular. Beautiful sunsets over Bali Hai in the evenings, and whales breaching just offshore every afternoon. Kitchen -- Beautifully laid out and well supplied. Everything you could possibly need, and then some! We very much appreciated the complimentary bag of Kauai coffee -- it was delicious! Lanai -- Lovely place for grilling and outdoor living. Bedrooms/Baths -- Plenty of closet/drawer space for us to stash everything. Loved the double shower in the master bath. We would second what some other reviewers have mentioned about the full-size futon in the guest BR -- a larger bed or 2 single beds would make the condo more comfortable for 4 people. Location -- In addition to the gorgeous ocean views, this is a very convenient North Shore location. It's only about 45 minutes from the airport and there's a grocery store nearby. There was flash flooding on the island while we were there and both Hanalei and Kapaa were affected, but not Princeville! If you don't fancy the adventurous scramble down the cliff from the condo to Hideaways Beach (which is gorgeous once you get down there), you can drive 10 minutes to Anini Beach for excellent snorkeling, lots of sea turtles, and very easy beach access. Dining -- We stocked up at the Lihue Costco on our way in and did most of our dining at the condo, but we did have a very nice dinner out at Mediterranean Gourmet in Ha'ena, about 10-15 minutes further west along the North Shore. They have a fabulous oceanside location where you can watch the famous North Shore waves breaking while you eat. Good food and a nice wine list. Overall -- The condo is light, airy, spacious, convenient, and just a delightful place to stay. The owner, Peter, was pleasant, responsive and professional, as was Manny, the local manager. Highly recommended.

Our family of four has been coming to Kauai for many years, but this was our first time staying in Princeville. This Puu Poa condo has all the amenities needed for any length of stay. It is close to Foodland at the Princeville shopping area if you enjoy cooking at home or a 2 minute walk to the St. Regis for drinks or dinner. The kitchen is a gourmet chef's dream. You can prepare you meals with state of the art appliances while watching the sun set over the ocean. A few steps out from the lanai you can watch surfers in the waves, whales breaching and the occasional rainbow framing your view. A short hike to hideaways beach provides some of the best snorkeling on the island. This condo provides some of the most spectacular views on all of Kauai!

Just as advertised condo, well appointed, great lanai to watch the surfers and whales. The second bed is not terribly comfortable and lacked a few items to get started, but certainly a place I would return. Close to stores, shopping and beaches. The beach just below the condo is nice but a bit of a steep hike, worth the trip however. Peter was great to work with and actually keeps the calendar up to date making it easy to really know if it is available.

Very nice condo, clean, quiet, comfortable with a great view! The condo was exactly as advertised with many nice and thoughtful touches (Hawaiian coffee, tea, reading materials, music CDs, light switches labeled, etc.). The weather was great (rained some at night, but the days were mostly sunny and beautiful). We barbequed in the grill, watched the Superbowl on the 55" screen TV, read fiction on the Lanai, soaked in the scenery, watched spectacular sunrises and sunsets, took lots of photos and overall had a great stress free vacation. We all highly recommend the Blue Dolphin for dining just a short drive away (5-5016 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei) and the short/steep hike down to the beach. The complex was very quiet (which was great for reading and listening to the sound of the ocean). I would offer one caution to anyone with mobility problems - the only access to the condo includes walking down/up three short slights of stairs. Bringing in luggage/groceries was a bit cumbersome. Another small challenge was the entry door lock, which took some getting used to (turn deadbolt key all the way to the left to get the thumb latch to open - took us several tries each time). Overall - Our 50-something girl's trip to Kauai was peaceful, comfortable and BEAUTIFUL!

Owner response: We are grateful these guests appreciated our effort to provide comfortable and livable accommodations. We also appreciate the critique concerning the front door lock. We will let future guests know in our instruction sheet, how to conquer this fancy Baldwin bronze door locking mechanism. In addition, we will advise persons with mobility challenges to request a key from us to the gate between the two large buildings. Stair-less access to the condo is easily possible by a short (approximately 50 yards) walk across the lawn to the lanai.

This place was exactly as advertised! Large open layout, nicely furnished with everything you could possibly need, including high-end appliances and some personal touches which makes it less hotel like and more like living in a luxury unit you may design yourself. It is a bottom floor unit which we preferred as you just walk right onto the lawn which has the most amazing views (the ocean view is also easily visible from inside the unit as well). Unlike upper level units which have the hot sun beating down on them, this unit stays nice and cool. There are plantation shutters on all windows, doors and closets (yes even the bathroom doors!) This means good air circulation and it never feels musty like some other condos we have experienced. On the flip side, those that have a need for more privacy (ie. bathroom and bedroom doors that are solid), will not get that entirely with these plantation doors. The units are situated on a high bluff above Hideaways beach which is very private, secluded and a bit of a steep hike for the unadventurous - this means less people and a feeling of being more exclusive once you undertake the 7 minute clamber. The owner was very helpful and great to work with. Already planning a return trip to Kauai and hope to stay again .

It is a reward indeed for our effort in October/November 2012 to get Puu POa 111 ready for luxury vacation rental. The poor cell phone reception (due to steel re-bar in the walls) is perhaps best to get around of by just stepping onto the lawn from the lanai when calling.

SHORT TERM RENTAL AGREEMENT This Short Term Rental Agreement (the “Agreement”) is made by and between Peter & Elke Braunlich (“Homeowner”) and the Renter (“Guest”) as of the date last set forth on the signature page of this Agreement. For good and valuable consideration, the sufficiency of which is acknowledged, the parties hereby agree as follows: 1. Property. The property is located at: 5454 Ka Haku Road, Princeville, HI 96722 The property is furnished. For a list of furniture and appliances please visit www.vrbo.com/443703. 2. Rental Party: The rental party shall consist of Guest and up to additional three persons. 4. Term of the Lease. The lease begins at 4:00 p.m. on the “Check-in Date”) and ends at 10:00 a.m. on the “Checkout Date”). 5. Minimum Stay: This property requires a 3 night minimum stay. Longer minimum stays may be required during holiday periods. If a rental is taken for less than 3 days, the guest will be charged the $350.00 per night rate. 6. About the owner: We have enjoyed several months per year in our Puu Poa home since having completely remodeled it in 1996-1997. We are retired from working in our own R&D company, from employment in a large US company and from being on the faculty of a major university. Coming originally from Germany, the European influence on the design of the interior of the property is apparent. Other design goals were achieving a light and airy internal environment. Direct and hot sunlight is avoided which, combined with louvered windows for 24-hour cross ventilation, keeps the interior comfortably cool. The covered lanai with contemporary patio furniture and cooking/grilling facilities offers outdoor living at its finest.
Why the Owner Chose Puu Poa:
We chose Puu Poa for several reasons besides the obvious ones, namely climate and lifestyle. The condominium's structure is solid concrete (not primarily wood) and, thus, hurricane resistant. Our unit is on the ground floor 140 ft. above sea level (therefore tsunami proof) with extraordinary views of ocean, mountains, sunrises and sunsets,waterfalls and rainbows; provides direct access across the lawn to the swimming pool and has several beaches nearby. The 'backyard' invites sunbathing in front of our lanai. The lanai itself is one of the essential living spaces of our home.
