The perfect mix of camp and accomodation

Date of Stay: 12/26/11 Review Submitted: 01/08/12

We were needing a real getaway where we could enjoy the accommodations of home while being deep in the woods. A wood burning stove, good hiking, activities for the kids and and not being bothered by cell phones were requirements. We found all that and more at the Cottage at Hemlock Grove and we plan to return, next time with more family and friends as the cabin and bunkhouse can comfortably fit a surprising number of people. We had 10 people, ages 4 - 61, and never felt crowded. The house and kitchen are well stocked which is good in case you forgot to bring something from home. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the water pressure (for showers) was excellent. The front and back porches and the hot tub are very nice places to relax, as is the living room by the wood burning stove. Plenty of square footage to keep a large group comfortable but not so big that it doesn't feel cozy. Hiking was really fun as there are many miles of trails and old logging roads that apparently never leave the 300-acre property so you can be somewhat confident that you won't get lost as long as you follow the provided trail maps and have some sense about you. :) Hemlock Grove was a gem and we plan to return!

Great time with the whole extended family

We had a large group with everyone from 4 years old to 74 years old and we all had a great time. The kids loved playing in the yard and exploring in the woods. The house had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. The entire house was very clean and odor free. We all felt very at home and welcome in the cottage. The entire experience was A+. We would absolutely stay again. Antoinette

Peace at Hemlock Grove

Guest: Mildred (Orlando, Florida)
Date of Stay: 06/02/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

We arrived at our destination. A lovely white farmhouse sitting in a grove of hemlock and magnolia trees. Rockers on the porch called to us to sit a spell and rest and dream. Early in the day we sat on the back deck in our nightwear and drank our morning coffee from lovely unchipped mugs while listening to the birds. That was the only sound. It was great! The house was full equipped and spotless. As for the trails, they were a dream. We found the old log house and barn and took endless pictures while imagining the people who had built the structures, their hardships and achievements. You see, I am a genealogist and much of my research is bound up in those mountains. We saw deer, and prints on one trail of bobcat and not one bit of litter. Our picnic by the trout pond was so peaceful and the trout showed their approval by performing a water ballet. A ground covering tucked away beneath the trees was something we had never seen before. Rocking on the front porch was a wonderful way to rest up after our hike. The old wild azalea with it's gnarled limbs drew our attention but the vast magnolias and hemlocks yielded up pure peace. At night we crawled between our soft cotton sheets (at least 800 count) and slept and dreamed of never having to leave this marvelous place. I have recommended Hemlock House to several friends but almost want to keep it a deep dark secret just for me.

This was one of the best weekends EVER! The Hemlock House was clean, well-appointed and comfortably beautiful. Loved the jacuzzi, the deck, the setting and the gracious hosts. I plan to return for another stay. Highly recommended!

So much to say about the peace of the house in the hemlocks! Two comments: 1. From the hammock on a morning in April, the sun smiled, birds sang, the creek gurgled, forsythia bloomed, a rooster crowed, and I was quietly happy, waiting for friends to arrive for a birthday party weekend. 2. From the hot-tub out back, beneath the stars, late one night, laughing with friends in the beautiful night air, I realized that nothing could be sweeter. My visit to the Tennessee Mountains and this well-equipped home was quite possibly the most relaxed I have felt in a long, long time.

Our writing group, the StoryLoft Writers, rented this property for a retreat. The kitchen was well-stocked, the bedrooms and living spaces comfortable and the deck provided a wonderful space for an outdoor meal. We had plenty of togetherness, but also ample space to split up and get to the task of writing. The two best things about this particular cottage were: (1) the extreme graciousness and attention to detail provided by the hosts and (2) the remote location with its wonderful quietness. I think it would also make a great place to have a family or friendly gathering or even a work retreat. There is a big yard for children or grownups to play and hiking trails. The surrounding scenery is gorgeous and the distance to the lake completely manageable. I would highly recommend The Cottage at Hemlock Grove.

This was our second visit to The Cottage in Hemlock Grove. It is beautiful, clean, and very accomodating for our vacation with another family. The Bunkhouse is also wonderful. The owner has recently added a bathroom and a kitchen area. The children really loved it. The mountains are gorgeous. We enjoyed hiking, playing pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and spending time together as a family. The owner was attentive and concerned with our comfort. We hope to return for a 3rd time next year. We would definitely recommend this place!

My family and I had a wonderful vacation at the Hemlock Grove house. Everything about the week was perfect. The weather cooperated and we had beautiful cool mornings to sit on the deck and drink coffee and clear nights to sit around the fire pit and enjoy the evening. My sons and I rode our motorcycles and had a great time riding all the great roads in the area. The Dragon is less than an hour away and the Cherahala skyway is even closer. However, the local roads are just as much fun to ride, plenty of turns and twists and lots and lots of gorgeous scenery. The lakes and the streams in the area are spectacular. We also had a great time hiking the trails around the house, playing pool and relaxing on the deck and front porch. There were eight in our party and the house had plenty of room for us all and with 3 bathrooms, I never heard anyone complain. The bedrooms were very warm and comfortable and the family room and living room afforded plenty of space for everyone to “have their own space” if they so chose. We had a wonderful time at Hemlock house and look forward to returning in the future.

Our family reunion! All had agreed on the dates and we had reserved several cabins at Watts Bar Dam - but it turned out to be undesirable. Frantically, the month before we were to meet (23 July) I was trying to find a place for 25 family members from New Mexico, Colorado, South Carolina, North CArolina, Ohio, Georgia and Alabama to congregate. Somehow we ran across Hemlock Grove. ( A God moment - - vacation rentals by owner VRBO). It was absolutely perfect! Fully equipped for preparation of Thanksgiving dinner (in July). The bunk house was a godsend. Six children had their own hideaway - they called it a childrens paradise. Pool table, craft table, fridge. It is a lovely warm home we thoroughly enjoyed. Secluded, inviting. We also rented Lakewood for the overflow and it also was a lovely place to stay. All in all we had a wonderful stay. The cottage accommadated our family tradition of Charades and a Bocce tournment. We had a lot of rain and were without power for a while - but Woody, the caretaker was Johhny on the spot with a phone call. I would heartily recommend the cottage at Hemlock Grove or the Lakehouse to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay in Tennessee. The owner was very attentive. Thanks!

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at Hemlock Grove. It was the perfect getaway for our family reunion; an excellent value, quiet, spacious, very comfortable, and clean as a whistle! There was plenty of seating and space for everyone and a dining table big enough for all to sit and enjoy the good meals we cooked in that well equipped kitchen. Every night after dinner we sat on the deck enjoying the smell of a wood fire waiting for our nightly entertainment... a continuous procession of fireflies followed by a profusion of stars! We live in a bustling city so those magnificent, calm, starry mountain summer nights were special to us. There was even the scent of Magnolias from the trees in the front yard... We WILL be back. Hemlock Grove is in our hearts forever.

This was our first visit to this area, and we enjoyed a memorable visit to The House in Hemlock Grove. This very spacious and well-appointed house is situated in a glen crowned with majestic hemlocks and magnolias. If one longs for a quiet and serene place away from the noise and traffic of urban life, this is certainly a place to visit. While located among stately trees adjacent to the Cherokee National Forest and near the beautiful lakes of Chilhowee and Tellico, there is much to see and do for both children and adults in the local area. It is very rare these days to be able to stay in such a very nice 5 bedroom house for the price of a standard hotel room. We are very glad we found it.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay in Hemlock Groves. We "city folks" thought we'd go through witdrawals, but the week went by too fast. The house itself could not be any better ... and everything's been thought of! We highly recommend it to anyone seeking a true mountain getaway, with all the comforts of home.

The grounds were so peaceful. The lovely trees, the pure air and the sense of privacy were unmatched. The house itself was pristine. Each bedroom and each bath was spotless and done in excellent taste. Fine towels, a well-equipped kitchen with good quality tools and dishes was another plus. The back deck was pleasurable and we highly recommend it as a peaceful, quality home in which to de-stress
