Nice place that could use some help
Nice place that could use some help
We had a great time here, but to be a good vrbo member, I need to be honest: There's a lot that should be done to this house. First the good. The upstairs lanai commands a view that's truly memorable. The water view is better than is shown in the photos (as some others have said). I kept taking pictures, but it's hard to capture how relaxing the space can be. The pool is truly an oasis. We spent many hours luxuriating in the warm waters and surrounding deck area. The master bedroom was simple but nice, and it really was hard to get out of bed when the setting was so nice. The overall tropical ambience of the place far surpassed the comparatively cold and sterile feel of the Kohala area. On the downside, while the master bathroom was nice, it had a couple of odd problems. The water pressure out of the shower was pretty sad, and my wife found a serious hairball in the shower drain. We couldn't find a single electrical outlet, but later found out they were under a counter. And, as others have said, the kitchen really needs to be redone. The biggest problem, though, is termites. There were shavings or droppings or whatever they're called all over the kitchen counter and bathtub when we arrived. There are also soft spots in the floor that I assume are a result of termite damage. I'm sure it's hard to make ends meet while balancing the needs of the renter and the owner's bank account, but I think the owner needs to take stock of his/her investment and decide about addressing the termites and a dozen other small things. On the bright side, the manager Sandra, has been helpful throughout. I told her there were problems and I'd be mentioning some in my vrbo review. She asked only that I mention how much I enjoyed the place too. So here it is: I really enjoyed our week there. I just hope the place can be fixed up rather than being allowed to deteriorate.

Good family rental
Good family rental
We had a wonderful stay. 5 adults, 1 child and a baby. Lots of room, pool is wonderful for hot afternoons. Beach access just steps away with the best snorkeling we found of all the other beaches we tried all over the island. Just a couple warnings, the stove really needs to be replaced, only two burners work which makes cooking for a family tougher. You've mentioned a kitchen remodel is on the way, you could really just spend less than $400 on a new range and have a much more presentable kitchen. Good thing we could grill everything, veggies and all! Also, while master bathroom is beautiful, no window coverings makes for interesting showers and toilet use. Good thing no one had the house next door rented until the last day of our stay! Also minor note, couldn't find the hair dryer mentioned in items provided. Sounds silly but for women looking to conserve on suitcase space, I was counting on the house having one and didn't bring my own. Made due. Would rent again in a heartbeat. Great little shopping center within walking distance, ate a couple times at Sam Choy's, good food.

Owner response: Aloha, I'm happy you had a good time and wish you would have let me know about the hair dryer; I didn't realize it had walked away and I would have gone out and replaced it for you and brought it over. I apologize for the stove, I guarantee it will be replaced before your next stay.
Nice home in a great location
Nice home in a great location
My family recently stayed here. The views were great off the deck, watching the waves in the nearby bay. There was a shoreline access path right next to the house, but there isn't much beach, just lots of huge lava rocks. We found a great beach a few miles down the road from the house. The pool was used everyday and it was always crystal clear! The hot tub never got very hot. The temps were very warm and with high humidity while we were there, so the house never cooled off much, despite the ceiling fans always running. The kitchen had nice appliances, but the stove was a little dated as only two burners worked. The location was great as it was just a short walk or drive to a shopping center with a grocery store, shops, restaurants, and movie theaters! It was also just off Alii Drive where you could drive to beaches, shops and more restaurants! The house was clean and all the fragrant flowers and trees around the house added to the beauty!

Needs a few things...
Needs a few things...
I stayed at the house for ten days. During that time, the garbage was not collected. There was trash in the garbage cans from the prior residents. Regarding the pool, the filter system was not adequate to keep it clean. We were constantly skimming bugs, etc. from the pool. There is no gas grill. It is also missing a small refrigerator in the pool area. The kitchen is dated and needs work. On the plus side, it's a great location. Close to the beach and grocery shopping.

Owner response: "So far, everything has been great" .... this was the response from you when I contacted you a couple of days after your arrival. "Had a great time at your place, things were wonderful" .... and this was your response the day you left. You hadn't mentioned anything was displeasing until I withheld your damage deposit to cover the cost of the additional guests you hadn't told us about. Tsk Tsk ... If there truly were problems, we were available to you to take care of these things and we were in contact but nothing was mentioned...
Everything We Wanted and Then Some!
Everything We Wanted and Then Some!
Excellent home, location, amenities, VERY clean! Better than pictures present! The view from the very roomy and comfortable upper porch could not have improved! The beautiful flowers leading to the beach, watching the Kon Tiki come by and blow the horn each day, being next to the path leading to the beach, being so conveniently located to stores/restaurants/town, awakening to the sound of birds, this was just a wonderful experience! Then, there's the top of the line hot tub! The great pool! The lush towels (and plenty of beach towels!) and luxurious bathroom in the master! Everything we needed was provided, and I look forward to returning! Loved the Ocean Breeze Kona House!

My wife and kids had a great time in Hawaii and the house was fantastic. The pool saw lots of use and the view from the upper deck was way better than any of the photo's show! We spent lots of time out there watching the surfers and the whales and listening to the waves. The location is also very convenient; airport is 20+ minutes, Kona 10+ minutes and sites like Captain Cook Bay, Two Step etc are about 20 minutes or so to the south. The shopping mall in Keauhou is a 5 minute walk and has a good supermarket and drug store as well as a cinema and some restaurants. The beach near the house is made up of large, round lava boulders and often gets pretty big waves coming in. I had a few days having a lot of fun boogie boarding there. Getting in and out of the water was the only slightly painful part! On the calmer days the snorkeling was also pretty nice with the usual Hawaiian aquatic residents. The house is a little dated (the kitchen in particular) but clean and well equipped. There was a couple of boogie boards and a couple of sets of snorkeling stuff. The beach umbrella and chairs were much appreciated too. There were only a couple of items we felt the kitchen lacked; a toaster and some deep bowls for cereal etc.

Owner response: Thank you Peter for your review. I want you to know that the kitchen remodel is in the works and I'm going out today to get a toaster and deep bowls for cereal. We're so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again.
This house was perfect. We were traveling with 3 adults and 3 teenagers. The location could not have been better with easy access to the beach for surfing, the super clean private pool for swimming and a very short walk to boating and snorkling tours. The house was large enough to give everyone the space they needed and the large dining table accomodated us (plus friends) for meals either inside the house or on the lanai. I loved the master bedroom and luxurious master bath. The house was very clean and well equipted. This is a well maintained home. I cant wait to go back.

Amazing Ocean Breeze
Amazing Ocean Breeze
You will not believe the view from the upstairs lanai. It is pure heaven to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, with all the windows open and the breeze blowing through. The location is perfect, close to so much to do. However there is no need to go anywhere if relaxing is what you want to do. The backyard provides you with everything you need to enjoy your vacation. There is a well maintained swimming pool, a hot tub, and a walkway to the shoreline. Not to mention lounge chairs, umbrellas, tables, chairs and another lanai with a dining area. Lots of family fun and comfortable beds too.
