A sense of serenity permeates this architectural jewel just one mile outside of the Village of Rhinebeck. This newly-renovated house was designed as a celebration of the natural beauty of upstate New York. Set deep within a 10 acre park-like property, the house was constructed with a palate of local field-stone, maple flooring and black walnut accents. Soaring floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in. Sit in the sunroom with its three glass window-walls and appreciate the old-growth oak and cedar trees that encircle the the back yard. Or snuggle up next to one of the house's two massive stone fireplaces as you bask in the warmth from the radiant heat in the floors. If you like to cook, you will love the modern kitchen with its Miele appliances, professional grade cookware and 20-foot bay of windows that flood the kitchen with natural light. The house's open floor plan gradually unfolds to connect the kitchen, dining room, living room, family room and sun room, while preserving distinct feeling of intimacy and separateness of the different rooms. The architecture is thoroughly modern--with strong Japanese influences--but has an earthy warmth that appeals even to people not usually fond of the modern vernacular.
As you settle into the house, you can retire to the master bedroom suite. After sweating your cares away in the steam shower, you can soak in the huge freestanding tub and gaze out a huge window that overlooks the forest as a flock of wild turkeys saunter by. Privately enjoy the conveniences of a two sink vanity, a walk-in cedar closet and a private commode with heated Toto toilet, your guests can choose from one of three bedrooms on the main level and another two en suite bedrooms in the finished basement--which were designed specifically for parents with young children. There are three guest bathrooms and cedar closets throughout.
The house has some great modern amenities as well... There is a Sonos music system that can pipes music through the entire house replete with a docking station for your iPod. There is also a 52-inch TV and DVD player cleverly hidden behind a sliding panel. There is a two-car attached garage for those cold winter nights and an exercise room with a professional elliptical machine in the basement (so you can work off that meal you cooked last night!). If it is a bit warmer out, you can fire up the grill on the deck just off the kitchen and enjoy locally sourced organic meat from Fleisher's. Or, jump on the WiFi and read about all the great restaurants and activities to do in and around the Hudson Valley, knowing that you are just a few miles away from some of the best restaurants, farmers markets, antique stores and scenic walks you'll find anywhere.
Property also features an automatic backup generator so power outages will not get in the way of your enjoyment.
Nestled in the heart of the Hudson Valley, Rhinebeck has something for everyone. Two hours from New York City by car or by Amtrak, the village has a small town feel with cute shops and a wonderful vibe. With the Culinary Institute only 15 minutes away, the whole region is peppered with great restaurants, farmer's markets and local meat and produce shops. There are countless parks where you can take a casual stroll over looking the Hudson or do some of the most serious hiking and rock climbing on the East Coast. Rich in history, the Hudson River Valley has historical sites, mansions to tour and old towns and villages, some dating back three hundred years. You can get a taste of country life with a hayride or pick-your-own farms or explore nearby places like Woodstock, Hudson, Millbrook and Kingston. For the kids, there is the Old Aerodrome, which has antique airplanes on display and air shows. For older kids, horse farms, sportsman’s clubs, golf courses, and dozens of streams and lakes for fishing surround Rhinebeck. Bard College and the Fisher Center for the Arts is only ten minutes away.
