  This is a quiet residential neighbourhood, yet only 15 minutes on foot to Kyoto station. There are numerous subway and train stations nearby, including Tofuku-ji (JR and Keihan lines, 10 minutes walk), Kujo (subway, 10 minutes walk), as well as a bus stop in 25 metres, with frequent buses to Gion and Shijo-Kawaramachi (downtown) and it only takes about 15 minutes. The river is a five-minute walk away and you can cycle on the path along the river in 10 minutes to Shijo-Kawaramachi (downtown), the Gion area as well as Higashiyama. There are two three convenience stores within a 5-minute walk and a good supermarket which sells great sushi as well as pretty-much everything you might need. As this is not a tourist area, the shops are much cheaper! There are some small neighbourhood restaurants, including an izakaya (pub-type place with food), Korean, and okonomiyaki (Japanese-style pancakes). Cars can be parked for short periods on the street in front of the house, but for longer periods you may need to use a public parking area....morecollapse
