We say, Waters Edge is a vacation perfected by nature. Here is what our guests say. These are taken verbatim from the house guest book or an email. Every guest also wrote big Thank You's.
'We had an awesome time at Waters Edge and it was just what we were looking for, a lowcountry house with a waterfront that would allow us to put in the kayaks and paddle boards at the back door! Your manuals were very informative, didn't find a thing missing. If I stayed much longer I would become worthless, just sitting on the porch! We look forward to a visit in the future.' Teresa
'Hate to leave, everything was perfect! It was nice having time to relax and unwind.' Mary (Grandma!)
“We enjoyed our stay immensely. Hope we can make it back soon.” Traci
'We loved the home, loved the view, which has the greatest sunsets ever! This was a very enjoyable respite for us.' Barbara
'What a wonderful find to celebrate 50 years of marriage! So peaceful and tranquil, a retreat from the busy lives we live. Thank you for sharing, we feel blessed.' Saundra
“We had a wonderful time. It was so beautiful. I’ve shared photos on Facebook so friends and family can see just how beautiful it is here and I’ve recommended it to them if they’re looking for a place to relax. You guys have a little slice of paradise.” Robbie
“Everything was well-thought-out, serene and squeakily clean (puts our house to shame). It was perfect, thanks to you Cheryl.” Judy
“Felt like a home away from home, very relaxing, with a beautiful view.” Nancy
After asking us if we were the owners, Donnas husband said, 'If I win the lottery tonight, I'll make you an offer you can't refuse.' Donna
“We had a wonderful time, your place is great! Hope to visit again.” Rose
'Beautiful place. You went out of your way with so many thoughtful touches - the homemade chocolate chip cookies, the fire pit all ready for marshmallows. All the info and tips about the area, the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Everything was perfect. My granddaughters especially loved the swing! We had a wonderful time and hope to return.' Deborah
'Beautiful Place! Your hospitality is wonderful & we will be back soon! Our entire family including our new marine loved and really enjoyed the peaceful surroundings & beautiful views.' David
'You have a little piece of heaven. The views were amazing!' Giovapnoli, Rome, Italy.
'Beautiful view to wake up to everyday & enjoy at night.' Stephen
'Thanks so much for having such a lovely property. A lovely view. The house is well apportioned & stocked & your house instructions couldn't have been clearer. A HUGE bonus were the cooking supplies- having coconut oil and a few spices made deciding to cook a snap - this is RARE in rental properties and MUCH appreciated.' Karen
“Your home is lovely.” Scott
'The kids loved it ages 15, 27, 29 so they are not really kids, loved the place and were pleased to see that you had so much set up for them to do. We enjoyed our first vacation home rental.'
'This was a much needed break for our family. We enjoyed our time here very much! Thanks for putting so much thought and effort into this place! We can't wait to come back & stay longer!' Tarra
'We so enjoyed your piece of HEAVEN with us! It was so nice meeting you and Norman, you were a great HOST! You are incredibly organized, accommodating & genuinely welcoming. When looking at possibilities, your place was a slam dunk. The price is very reasonable & the accommodations perfect. The free use of kayak & canoe provided a tremendous savings as well as enjoyment to my family.
I would like to share one more thing with you regarding my wife. She likes to be in the middle of things. To be in close proximity to the market as well as other stores. Well let me tell you, Waters Edge opened her eyes to what something off the beaten path can provide. Not that Waters Edge is that far removed from things but to her it was OUT THERE, this opened the door for future possibilities for our family. I share this with you because you touched us all in ways that you probably didn’t realize.' Norm
'We couldn't have picked a better place to have a family vacation. We so enjoyed your beautiful deck & awesome views! You have a little slice of heaven here.' Patty
'What a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of nature and the zen of life. We love the coastal life and Hunting Island is unmatched. Thanks for the marshmallow roasting sticks!' Karen
'Loved your place. Nice big deck & an awesome view! The fire pit was a plus. This is a great place for a family picking up their marine to come back to each night' Ivy
'This is one of the most awesome places we have stayed in. The quiet evenings and natural views will never be forgotten. So home like! Loved it! We hope to return soon.' Donna & Jeff
'I just wanted to say THANKS for helping to make our 22nd anniversary a special one. The house is way better than the description website and the pictures just don't do it justice. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and listening to & watching nature especially the wildlife in the mornings & the evenings. Getting to watch dolphins from the back porch was a super treat. We'll be back in the fall!' Angie
'The brief stay was so much more than we expected! It was serene, yet flavored with adventure. We love everything about this place & will return again for a longer stay. The swing is great!. The dolphins spectacular! This little home will provide memories of a lifetime.' Jeff
'Loved everything. Seeing dolphins so close was wonderful. Everything was perfect.” Katherine

'We really enjoyed our stay here. Some of our favorite things – tether ball in the yard, the ring toss game on the deck and finding sharks teeth at Sands Beach.' Angie

'We loved the house. It worked perfectly for our needs. The space was great & the location was amazing. Everyone was blown away by all of your attention to detail; it seems that you have thought of everything and put lots of love and time into the house. We loved it, everything was perfect. I would take a great view of the marshes over oceanfront any day, they're so interesting and beautiful!' Casey
“Your place lived up to everything you posted and beyond. Definitely have to experience Water's Edge first hand to fully appreciate it. The cleanliness and the clean lines of your furnishings was exemplary. We talked about other vacations when we have been by the ocean and never noticing the tides as we did here. The marshlands are beautiful & they gave us the opportunity to see the rise, fall and currents. Fascinating!” Saundra

This is what Professor Emeritus Dr. Larry Rowland, our great local historian has to say about our area. 'This coastline has more aesthetic tourist values than if you were to combine Yellowstone Park and Williamsburg. The Lowcountry is one of the most aesthetic places in America. Every person who comes here mentions that. You have tidal water and land and sea and sky. You've got this very unusual atmosphere. This is the most humid part of the United States...from Charleston to Jacksonville. So what it creates, as a 19th century poet said, 'is a sky of a softer blue.' The colors become muted. And that creates an imagery. It creates an aesthetic in people's mind. The colors merge together. And, since it is semi-tropical, you have all these flowers and birds that you do not have anywhere else in the United States. Then you see these oak trees that do not grow anywhere else. These are densest, largest, and oldest trees in America outside of California. So you have this unusually romantic aesthetic that just strikes people.
It's not just the visual. It's actually the tactile feel because you come here and you smell the marshes. Then all of a sudden you see the oysters the size of your hand. All of these things just affect people. These things don't exist anyplace else in the United States. So it is very unique. When people visit us they see and witness a culture that is uniquely different. It is so different that they almost feel as if they are visiting another country. The food is distinctive. The church, and its music, are more important. Our dialect, and even our manners, are different. The Gullahs are our neighbors. It is these aesthetics that people react to without even being able to describe them.
Then, you have a historic aesthetic. We have 500 years of history that is actually here. America started here...not in Jamestown, Plymouth Rock, or St. Augustine. And we have the icons, the artifacts of that history visible to us all over the place. It's this total effect that strikes people. We have 300 years of commentary that says the same thing in every generation. 'This are is so unusual.' 'What a volume of history is here.' And everybody has the same human reaction to it.' - Larry Rowland

Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
In a nutshell, pristine nature in a quiet private setting is why we live here and bought the home next door which is the vacation rental. We are smitten with our place! The view is priceless as is the wildlife. This is the ideal place to unplug and relax in the natural beauty of the lowcountry. The 800' view of expansive tidal salt marsh on deep McCalley Creek was just what we were looking for. The sunsets take our breath away. For early risers the sunlight illuminates the marsh as the sun rises. We love the serenity of our private setting. Dolphin sightings are common, especially in the summer. We have many wader birds i.e. blue and green herons, egrets, ibis, wood storks. We also see and hear osprey, hawks, woodpeckers, owls, king fishers, hummingbirds, bluebirds, cardinals, wren, gray catbirds, crows. Cheryl has seen three bald eagles. There is a one acre forest with a board walk to enjoy. Many 100's of years old mighty live oaks provide a wonderful shade canopy. We have created a great deal of landscaping which we enjoy. The home is clean as a whistle and completely furnished. Only 8 minutes to Bruster's Ice Cream yummy! 5 miles to a great drive in movie theater with current movies, it is a great drive in. 11 miles to downtown Historic Beaufort with many delicious restaurants, unique shops and art galleries. Hunting Island State Park a pristine Atlantic Ocean beach is 28 miles from the house. The property boarders the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee, Edisto Rivers) Basin 350,000 acres of diverse habitats including pine and hardwood uplands, forested wetlands, fresh, brackish and salt water tidal marshes, barrier islands and beaches. The ACE basin offers hiking, boating, bird watching and sceenic drives. We have seen white pelicans and rosette spoonbills at the Donnelly Wildlife Management Area in the ACE Basin have never seen them elsewhere in Beaufort County. We are a central Lowcountry location, right in between Charleston and Savannah. Many ruins in our area also.
