Special thanks to Gary and Heidi for allowing us to make their home ours for a week. The house is very comfortable, with great mountain views. Plenty of room to spread out, great family eating area, room for kids to get away from parents (and vice versa) and perfect deck for coffee in the morning and wine at night. Minutes away from downtown Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park, the lodge was a great home base for all our activities. We had a special treat seeing a black bear and cub up a tree just outside the kitchen window! Took a hike up the mountain behind the lodge to Homestead Meadows and the Irvin cabin. Very cool…they even had a sunken tub in the bath house fed by a spring and the shelves in the kitchen still have stuff sitting on them from the thirties! Think I spent as much time in front of the fireplace and hot tub as hiking in the park. Heidi was fantastic to work with. We are so very fortunate to find such a fabulous property and owners. We’ve already booked our next trip to the Lodge next May…can’t wait!!!

We stayed in this lodge for New Years Eve with my extended family (aunts, uncles, and 81 year old grandparents. We had a great time playing cards in the family room with a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, and brought in the New Year soaking in the hot tub under a gorgeous star lit sky. The house was perfect, plenty of room for everyone, and easy for my grandparents because they only had to climb two steps to enter the main level (kitchen, great room, and 3 bedrooms, 2 baths). In the winter I would recommend a four-wheel/AWD drive vehicle in case of snow because the house has a pretty steep driveway, but a 2-wheel drive is fine if no snow. The kitchen is really a gourmet chefs dream with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, elk antler chandelier, double oven etc. We had all the spices/pots/pans we needed to cook our meals and just took turns preparing meals so no one got tired of cooking all the time. The girls did some shopping in downtown Estes Park, which is only about 8 minutes from the Lodge. You have the benefit of having privacy with great mountain views, with convenience to all downtown Estes Park has to offer. On New Years day we took a drive into Rocky Mountain Park (entrance is about 10 minutes from the house), and drove up to Bear Lake trailhead. Almost a surreal drive in the winter (so majestic)...what a way to start the New Year...we didn't want to go home! The owners were very helpful answering all our questions and made sure we had everything we needed over the holiday. It was definitely a trip we will never forget, and will definitely be back again this year, maybe in the summer this time. This place would be great for families, extended families, kids and elderly alike.

Owner response: Nothing like bringing in the New Year at the cabin! The snow is really something to see that time of year. Come back and see us!

Setting up our trip with Heidi was really easy and she made us feel at ease. We really enjoyed our stay at Hidden Elk Lodge. We had three generations of family at the house, and it accommodated all our needs. We went to Bear Lake one day, Fort Collins to a concert another night, downtown Estes shopping and dining, and took the tour of the Stanley Hotel which was really pretty cool. We walked around Lake Estes and it is really pretty with views of the mountain, golf course, and river. We loved seeing the wildlife, from hummingbirds, chipmunks, elk and deer. It’s amazing how secluded the property is and how peaceful our stay was. We will be back and will bring some friends!

We stayed at Hidden Elk Lodge for a couples getaway. We wanted to stay someplace secluded and out of the hubbub of downtown Estes Park. We found the perfect place! We knew this was a special place as we made the drive up the tree-lined driveway. The house sits on 12 pine tree filled acres, and then Roosevelt National forest borders the property so if you want privacy, this is your place. It’s amazing that July in the mountains means 75 degrees for a high temperature! The house was just like in the pictures: full log home with a tremendous deck that we spent a lot of time on. The beds were comfortable, and kitchen was well stocked and had everything that we needed. The owners were wonderful and helped us plan what hikes to take into Rocky Mountain National Park. We did the hike from Bear Lake to Chasm Falls that the owner recommended. It was a very pretty hike and wasn’t too difficult, but the views were great! We didn’t need to visit the park to see elk though. We saw 3 big bull elk grazing by the driveway one day as we were pulling up to the house! Hummingbirds were swarming the bird feeders on the deck…we just sat and watched them dive-bomb each other. At night we enjoyed the hot tub and looking at the stars…so bright compared to the city. I would definitely recommend the Hidden Elk Lodge to anyone wanting some rest and relaxation.

All of the units are privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise. 4. Keep the property and all furnishings in good order. 5. Only use appliances for their intended uses. 6. Pets are NOT allowed. 7. Parking: PARKING – Parking is limited to 4 vehicle(s). Vehicles are to be parked in designated parking areas only. Parking on the road is not permitted. Any illegally parked cars are subject to towing; applicable fines/towing fees are the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner. 8. Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping service. While linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. We suggest you bring beach towels for the hot tub. We do not permit towels or linens to be taken from the units. 9. Hot Tub: No children under the age of 12 permitted in hot tubs at any time without adult supervision. When using the hot tub, remember there is a certain health risk associated with this facility. Use at your own risk. Our housekeepers drain, sanitize, refill and replenish chemicals in all tubs prior to your arrival; therefore, it may not be warm until later that evening. DO NOT STAND ON THE HOT TUB COVERS. Hot tub covers are for insulation purposes and are not designed to support a person or persons. They will break and you may be charged for replacement. Remember when not using the hot tub, leave cover on so hot tub will stay warm. 10. Fireplace: The fireplace is a wood-burning fireplace with gas start. Please do not throw any paper or other combustible materials in the fireplace. Fireplaces are turned off from June 1 through August 31; they are not operational during this time of the year. 11. Water and Septic: The Lodge is on a well and septic systems. During a drought, the well water may have discoloration. The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper approved for septic systems provided. No feminine products should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that feminine products have been flushed and clog the septic system, you could be charged damages associated with a septic service call. Water is a precious natural resource, especially in an arid State like Colorado. Please practice conservation when possible such as quick showers, and not leaving the water running while brushing your teeth etc. Thanks for helping us stay green and conserve! 12. Storms, road conditions, forest fires: No refunds will be given for storms or road conditions. Mountain roads can be curvy and steep. Gravel drives are well maintained; however, we highly recommend four wheel drive and/or chains during the snow months. Should the Park Service issue a forest fire evacuation notice, a refund of the remaining portion of the stay will be issued. Always think safety first!

100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
