Wait.....What's a Yurt?
A yurt (or ger) is a portable living structure originally developed by the nomadic groups of the Central Asian steppes. Original yurts were fashioned from local wood, felt, and braided horse hair. They were designed to be portable for moving as the horse and goat herds were driven across the plains. Strong and light, they could be set up in a day or so and properly equipped to withstand wind and snow that would crush many other dwellings.

Modern yurts like ours are made from more contemporary materials (aluminum rivets, aircraft cable, and polyester materials) with heat-treated and fine finished wood. Yet their basic architectural principle (circular arch) remains the same as used five hundred years ago.
Our yurt has been made to be comfortable year round and is very close to downtown Asheville with heating and air conditioning and all the comforts of home with all of the magic and playfulness of a yurt!
We also have a AWESOME Vintage Camper available! See it by visiting : http://www.vrbo.com/590858
When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with forts and play houses built with everything from lawn chairs and sheets to tree branches. I grew up, but never grew out of my love of playing and being in fun spaces. We designed the yurt to be a place that transports you back to your childhood and allows your imagination to run wild!
The Yurt is just 5 miles from downtown asheville and less than 3 from hip West Asheville and the very popular Haywood road!
The Yurt is located on it's own large 2 acre+ property in a residential neighborhood with a cool metal privacy fence that was hand built. The yurt has a cozy fire pit area that is stocked with ready split firewood and metal chairs to relax by the campfire in.
Nothing like a traditional house - when you stay in a yurt you are experiencing life in the round! While most yurts have a completely open floor plan with no private space- our yurt has the unique bonus of a small completely enclosed and insulated private bedroom with a comfy queen sized bed beneath a sleeping loft. The room below the sleeping loft has been framed and insulated to provide a quiet sleeping area- people who are light sleepers will enjoy the insulated room and it's also nice for those who are traveling with children or others who just want to enjoy the bonus privacy of a closed sleeping area :-)
The sleeping loft is accessed by a beautiful wooden stair ladder that was hand built by a local Asheville Craftsman and is made out of poplar and Oak treads. Industrial Metal piping was added as the decorative hand holds on the way up the ladder. Once in the loft you find yourself in a cozy little nook one of our guests referred to as 'the nest'. A nice full sized bed comfortably fits two adults and the half wall is perfect for leaning against while reading a book before bed. Sink down into the pile of pillows to view the stars through the yurts dome before you drift off to sleep!
The half wall keeps people downstairs from being able to see the people in the loft- Kids and adults both love sleeping in the loft!
While we can accommodate as many as eight by using an inflatable mattress- Six people fit comfortably on the two beds and comfortable futon bed. The Yurt has everything that you need and more to be comfortable- The beds have comfortable sheets and blankets and there are extra blankets, towels, and pillows for your use.
The yurt features a full kitchen with a stainless steel convection oven, ceramic cooktop and Maple counters- with a full sized refrigerator. There are plenty of kitchen tools available for your use including a blender, food processor, crock pot, coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans, skillets, spices, cooking oil etc.
The adorable yellow bath house is right outside of the yurt that has a beautiful slate tiled shower, regular flush toilet, an antique hutch that we converted into a beautiful bathroom vanity, and a brand new LG stackable washer and dryer. The bath house has gorgeous Hickory Floors.
We love the yurt and have spent a lot of time, love, and our energy into building, decorating and adding fun details to enhance the space. We think you'll enjoy these touches as much as we do:
~black walnut spiral inlaid into the pine floors
~ a custom built loft ladder with metal piping for handles
~shelves made out of recycled bike parts
~ an antique kitchen hutch made into a vanity
~ Locally crafted tables made out of local rhododendron
~All of the art in the yurt is by local artists
~Unique custom planters filled with succulents outside and on the yurt
~8 ft tall metal fence and yurt skirting
~Gorgeous Stone Work on the retaining wall and the Stone Stairway that leads to parking
If you are interested in alternative housing, love the outdoors, and would like to experience the most unique and FUN rental in Asheville...... come and experience Yurt life!

DOG POLICY PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE A PET!!!: we want to continue to allow guests to bring dogs as we have three fur babies of our own that love the yurt! In the past our policy has just been that guests are allowed to bring dogs as long as the dog is crated anytime the guests are not inside the yurt with their pet. Unfortunately we recently had an incidence where a guests dog, who was not crated, chewed a large hole through the wall of our yurt- the canvas and insulation was $3,000 to replace. Mistakes happen, but we now must require that anyone bringing a dog, regardless of size, purchase $69.00 damage protection from CSA with the $3,000 damage protection- you will find this option as you are going through the booking process- it is the mid level plan they offer, so make sure to click on the right plan. In order to make this insurance plan more affordable, we have dropped our previous $25 pet fee which went towards additional cleaning- To guests who want to bring their furry companions, this is less than the cost of boarding your pet. We still require that dogs left unattended in the yurt our crated. Thank you very much for understanding!
DOG POLICY PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE A PET!!!: we want to continue to allow guests to bring dogs. In the past our policy has been that guests are allowed to bring dogs as long as the dog is crated anytime the guests are not inside the yurt with their pet. Unfortunately we recently had an incidence where a guest did not follow by our rule and left their dog unattended in the yurt- this resulted in the dog eating a large hole thru the wall of our yurt- the canvas and insulation is over $3,000 to replace. We now require that anyone bringing a dog, regardless of size purchase $89.00 damage protection from CSA with the $5,000 damage protection- you will find this option as you are going through the booking process- it is the highest level plan they offer, so make sure to click on the right plan. If you do not purchase this plan we are very sorry but we can not allow you to stay at the yurt with your pet after this very expensive lesson :-(...moreless

About the owner: I've always been very interested in living in small spaces and sustainable housing. It started when I was a kid- obsessed with building forts. I started with rudimentary structures made with chairs and sheets, or sticks and branches. These huts evolved and soon I was building more elaborate ones made out of recycled tires (ie the pile of tires I found in the woods) and then tree forts with hammers and nails. I grew up, but I haven't grown out of my passion for spaces that are fun to be in. I have been a regular volunteer with habitat for humanity on their volunteer construction crews here in Asheville. I am currently starting a project building micro houses to provide people with affordable housing in the Asheville area (houses under 500 sq feet). I became interested in yurts four years ago and put this one up on my property. I lived here for over two years and LOVE yurt life! Now that I'm not living in the yurt, I spend most of my nights in a 1955 Vintage Spartan Imperial Mansion Camper that we are restoring! We also have a 1975 Airstream Sovereign that has been converted into a workshop. We love it!
