Take a walk through the Medici apartment by viewing a brief video. See link above.

This beautiful Florence vacation rental apartment will make you think you stepped onto a picturesque Italian movie set when you enter the neighborhood behind the Boboli Gardens known as the "Bobolino", or little Boboli Gardens. The tranquil Boboli Gardens were the private grounds of the Medici family's Pitti Palace, when this powerful family reigned supreme during the Renaissance. The 15th century wall that encloses these gardens, Florence's only central public gardens, runs directly behind the apartment. It is about an 10-minute walk down to Piazzale Porta Romana where there is a public entrance to the Boboli Gardens. To the east is the glorious walk up Viale Niccolo Macchiavelli to the million dollar view of Florence from the Piazzale Michelangelo.

Set among a few small quiet streets are two-story residences that were built in the 1920's. This is a very elegant, quiet neighborhood unknown to most tourists. It's an easy walk to all the major sites but lets you escape to a private peaceful retreat with plenty of greenery and a terrace.

Location
The Medici apartment is located on a picturesque lane off a small quiet street. As you walk down the lane you'll see the 15th century stone walls of the Boboli Gardens directly in front of you. The street is less then one block long and dead-ends at the ancient wall. It's a 15- minute walk to the Pitti Palace or the lively Piazza Santo Spirito which has many excellent restaurants and a daily outdoor produce market. The Ponte Vecchio is a 25 minute walk. This is an ideal location if you want to be outside the crowded historic center and don't mind walking. During daylight hours there is a shortcut through the grounds of the nearby Art Academy which shaves a few minutes off the walk. At night, after dinner out, you might want to take a taxi back to the apartment if your feet are crying for mercy after a long day of sightseeing!

For families with young children there is the playground for toddlers on the art academy grounds, something that you won't find in the historic center.

Exterior
The Medici apartment is in a small building containing only two apartments. The Medici apartment is the lower of the two units but is one up from street level. Enjoy meals on the terrace and scenic views of the Tuscan hills from the living room windows. There is ample on-street metered parking in the neighborhood which is very reasonably priced when compared to the high price to park a car within the downtown area of Florence.

Interior
The living room has a very large window that overlooks the lane. In the spring and summer enjoy seeing the neighbor's mature wisteria vine in bloom. In the distance are views of the gentle hills that surround the outskirts of Florence, dotted with stately villas. The lush vegetation and bucolic setting will make you feel like you're in the countryside even though you're a reasonable walk away to the famous sites like the Duomo, the David and the Ponte Vecchio! The living room has two comfortable small sofas accessorized with sumptuous throw pillows. If you want to just sit and relax at home, there is plenty of reading light from the lamps next to the sofas. In the corner of the living room is a dining table and four chairs. Gaze out the living room window and you'll see the ancient walls of the Boboli Gardens immediately to your right.

The master bedroom and bathroom are at the back of the apartment and each have windows opening onto the back garden and patio. The second bedroom has a large window that overlooks the lane. Both bedrooms have large armoires with ample clothing storage space. For a fifth person an extra twin bed can be set up in the living room, upon request.

The eat-in kitchen has French doors that open onto the terrace. Throughout the floors are handsome original polished terracotta tiles. You'll find this kitchen to be a delight to cook in. On the other hand, you're in Florence and on vacation, so chances are you'll be eating out at the many nearby excellent restaurants most days. However, the wonderful selection of fresh seasonal ingredients might tempt you to cook at home. Just at the edge of the neighborhood in the Piazza Porta Romana are a few daily produce stands that sell fresh fruits and vegetables, so handy if you need a few last-minute items. There's even one of Florence's few remaining tripe vendors at this location, if you care try this Florentine speciality!

The bathroom has a large window opening to the terrace, good lighting, and a fully enclosed shower.

A terrace is a "must have" for some of our guests and the Medici apartment has a lovely outdoor space. It's an ideal place to enjoy summer meals. There is a patio table with umbrella. You can just step right out onto the patio from the kitchen and we bet it's the spot where many of you will have some of your most pleasant Florence memories. This is a country where meals al fresco is a way of life and you'll find yourself getting into the swing of things, even if it's just lingering over a cup of coffee and reading a good book outside on the terrace in the mornings.

A DVD player along with a small selection of movies is provided. There is a selection of guidebooks for you to peruse and enjoy.

Nice apartment

The Medici is a very nice two bedroom apartment in a residential neighborhood. You will feel like a local staying here but expect to walk or take a bus to the center of Florence. Having a fully stocked kitchen and outside patio area make this 10x better than a hotel room. Also, if your plan is to rent a car, street parking is available and easy.

The apartment was lovely

Date of Stay: 10/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/18/11

The apartment was lovely. A little small for 5 women with only 1 bath but the kitchen was very roomy and well equipped. We were a little paranoid with the limited utility usage advice. The location was out of town a bit and not too close to a bus line, the garden was closed at night so not an option. The surrounding area was beautiful. We found a neighborhood restaurant 5 minute walk uphill we frequented 3 evenings, I left the card in the guest book. Franchesca was very nice and pleasant, helped us call a cab to the airport. Having an apartment is really the way to go! Thank you Lisa!

The apartment was awesome. I LOVED the location. Florence is great but it was so nice to come back to the apartment on the small, quiet, dead end street. It was so very quiet and that was a welcome relief after sightseeing and the hustle and bustle of the city. The super markets that were close by were so convenient. The nearby taxi stand...great when I did not feel like walking. Oh, the shortcut to the main street, was time saving and not to mention nice on my tired aching feet. The apartment was so clean and well decorated, I felt like a local. I have been to Florence five times before and stayed in hotels. There is no comparison. Talk about more bang for your buck. The apartment is equipped with everything one needs for an enjoyable and safe vacation. You guys thought of everything. My boyfriend was so impressed, I received a marriage proposal so, the Medici will always have a special place in my heart.

We would return in a minute

We are almost hesitant to give our review of our nine week stay at the Medici apartment in Florence, because we, selfishly, would love to keep it all to ourselves! The location is perfect for its amazing views of the 'old wall', the hills, the lovely neighborhood homes, the great walks thru the grounds of the Art Institute and the easy access by walking or riding the bus from the Porta Romana into the heart of Florence. We truly left our hearts there and would return in a minute. Outdoor markets, stores, restaurants, meat and poultry markets, as well as daily fresh bread bakeries abound. Does it sound like we'd recommend it to a friend? We already have... thanks for making 'magic' happen in Italy.. it really was perfect.

The Medici apartment is a relatively spacious and well-equipped apartment located in a hilly, leafy residential neighborhood of Florence. Since we were traveling with our two young boys (10 and 8 years old), we wanted a vacation home with a place to play, tucked away from the bustle of central Florence, and the Medici provided that. It takes some planning if you wish to cook at home. First, you'll need to acquire all ingredients (including spices). Shops aren't located around the corner or down the street, but a good 15-minute walk with a return trip straight up hill. We also needed to adjust to the vagaries of Italian shop hours. That said, we made some pretty tasty meals. For eating out I'd recommend Antica Porta on via Senese. Also, the Gelateria on the Porta Romana piazza was very good (and a good deal). The 36 or 37 bus will take you just about anywhere you want to go. Piazzale Michelangelo is worth the view (#12 bus) -- and a nice walk back down the hill to the apartment. Learn when the short cut through the Art Institute is open and closed (it will save a lot of time). Francesca, our host, and Italy Perfect took care of everything we asked for. Should we visit Italy again, I wouldn't hesitate to call on them.

An excellent apartment in a perfect location to walk and see all of Florence. The description was very accurate and we were pleasantly met upon arrival. The apartment is within walking distance of all the “big sites” in downtown Florence. Never once, did we feel the need to take a taxi or bus to get downtown as it is only 20-25 minutes by foot to the center of town. We drove our vehicle and it was easy to find parking and then provided easy access (within 2 hours) to Siena and "The Chianti Road". The interior of the apartment is immaculately and professionally maintained; possesses a very comfortable and pleasant/relaxing atmosphere inside with the furniture/decor. As a result, we felt very comfortable inside unlike other apartments we've rented. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at this apartment again if we return to Florence someday. Highly recommended! We stayed at the Medici in the Oltrano district for 2 weeks. The Oltrano is a wonderful area to explore away from the frenzy of that which people call Florence! The one drawback was that the apartment was quite a walk to the nearest bus stop, through a park which had gates that closed in the evening. Having said that the Porta Romana was a great transportation hub and we bought a 20 euro bus pass which was perfect. Don't miss the chance to take the bus to Fiesole and see the Etruscan ruins and a breathtaking view of Florence! The apartment salon is filled with light in the evening and a well equipped kitchen.

We loved this location in Florence. Everything was within walking distance and we looked forward to walking through the park to the calm and quiet of the neighbourhood after a busy day in the city. The apartment is tastefully furnished and well equipped. Italy Perfect made sure the experience was positive - very organized. Having a personal greeter (part of the service) added to the experience. We were able to ask questions about directions, shopping and restaurants upon arrival (in English) and felt we always had someone to call. We have already recommended this accommodation to friends who plan to travel to Florence next year. We would definitely return to the Medici apartment.
