Large Cabin 'Off the Grid' in Beautiful Southwest Colorado
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
At 10,500 feet Oleo Guest Ranch is located in a remote part of SW Colorado (between Creede and Lake City) and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery that the Rockies has to offer. The cabin offers privacy and breathtaking views with comfortable accommodations. It is large with 4 bedrooms (5 twins, 3 queen beds). Oleo is very remote with the entire ranch's waters needs being supplied by fresh water drawn directly out of the mountain the cabin is built on. It is some of the freshest water you will ever taste. Propane runs the appliances (stove, refrigerator/freezer) and heats the water with a modern kitchen and bathrooms. Electricity is neither needed nor available and we do not allow generators. Anything that needs to be plugged in such as your ipad or your kids game system will not be of any use at Oleo Ranch. Cell phones don't even work there, but do over the mountain pass while traveling into Lake City. You truly do get to take yourself 'off the grid' while staying at Oleo and your mind and body will thank you for it. Don't worry, the outside world is just a short beautiful drive over Slumgullion pass into Lake City, if anything is needed.
For activities there are miles and miles of scenic trails for hiking, photography, fishing, or just relaxing. Moose and Elk are often seen at the ranch and several kinds of hummingbirds are always around the feeders. The colorful wildflowers in summer, the wind blowing through the Aspens, and the spectacular color changing fall foliage is nature at its best. Five stocked ponds and 1.5 miles of streams provide guests with private fishing. Beginners to the avid fly fisherman will have ample opportunity to wet their lines. Peace and quiet is not something you have to seek out at Oleo and the wind blowing through the Aspens will be the only thing you hear while reading your book on the deck. There is zero light pollution at night so star gazing is one of the most incredible things you will ever witness. Also, look no further than to Oleo to escape the heat of the summer. The average temperatures during the day are 70 and at night it can drop below freezing. Day trips 'off the ranch' are so abundant and can be anything from climbing one of the seven 14,000' plus mountains, fishing the Rio Grande river, hiking the continental divide trail, renting a jeep in Lake City and driving over Engineer pass, as well as something as simple as having an ice cream cone in Lake City. There is so much to see and do in one of the most beautiful areas of the Rockies. Thank you for taking a look at Oleo and we hope to see you soon enjoying the simple life at the ranch.
