Riverfront Vacation Cabin - Steps Away from Great Fishing!

I love this rustic but elegant mountain home.

Guest: Rachel (Gainesville, Florida)
Date of Stay: 01/12/12 Review Submitted: 01/29/12

This January I was one of three women traveling together for a yoga workshop in Asheville. The workshop was wonderful and so was our stay at Rock Creek Retreat. This beautiful home in the Blue Ridge Mountains was a slice of heaven that we savored for four days. We arrived in the dark, so my first glimpse of this elegant cabin was the warm welcome of its interior. We came inside through a door on the back of the house and immediately I saw the long, sleek, wooden dining room table. What a powerful first impression. The table sits in a corner of the living room, a large, inviting room with lots of windows, a stone hearth and a wood burning stove. It was love at first sight. I imagined my extended family gathered for a holiday feast at this elegant table in this rustic setting. I knew then I would try to make it true. We had driven all day, so we built a fire and unloaded the car. The house is perfect for we three independent people with different rhythms and different styles. I headed for bed and set the heating controls in my room to low. One friend set the controls in her bedroom to warm, and another settled on the couch to watch late night TV before retiring to her room. The beds were amazing comfortable and the sound of TV did not travel. I was very impressed by the quality of the furnishings – firm comfortable mattress, new mattress pad, all cotton sheets, fluffy white towels, an abundant supply of pillows. When I opened the box labeled extra blankets, I found a collection of handmade quilts. Wow! I was up with the sun the next morning, eager to see our surroundings. What a gorgeous, gorgeous place. The house sits right next to a river which can be seen and heard from the porch. If the weather had been warm, we might not have succeeded in heading off each day for yoga in Asheville. We three showered, dressed, and fixed our individual breakfast – all at the same time! There was plenty of hot water and water pressure. The kitchen was a dream kitchen with beautiful pots and pans, plenty of counter space, large refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, dishes, silverware. Everything but our food was provided. There was even a supply of cloth napkins! I am so eager to return to Rock Creek Retreat. I am working now to schedule a holiday gathering so I can sit down for a family feast in this rustic but elegant mountain home.

Clean, well appointed rental......

Guest: InLoveWiththeMountains (Boca Raton, FL - USA)
Date of Stay: 07/30/11 Review Submitted: 09/08/11

Me and my daughter and son-in-law, and my 15 yr. old grandson and his friend, stayed at Rock Creek Retreat from July 30 - Aug. 10, 2011. Beforehand, I had emailed many questions to the owner, and always received a prompt response. Upon arrival, we found the house and property to be very neat and clean. The house is well appointed, with all necessities provided. The rushing water over the rocks in the river below the property, is beautiful and soothing to listen to. We couldn't enjoy sitting for long on the deck, however, due to mosquitos. But that probably isn't a problem in fall or winter. We also got quite a surprise on the deck, when a snake crawled out from under the bbq grill. He slithered safely away. As for trout fishing, we were very disappointed to have no luck at all - though not for lack of equipment or trying. When not at the house, we all would drive into Black Mt. (a good 25 minutes away), or to Asheville (at least 40 minutes) or Lake Lure (closer - about 15 minutes). One suggestion - always pick up any groceries you need when in Black Mountain. Our vacation at Rock Creek was very nice. But we did have one discomfort. There was a prevasive dampness that we felt in the bedrooms. Especially the room with the twin beds, and the room next to it with the queen bed and view of the river. There are moisture absorbing bags in all the closets that did not seem to be effective. Also, instructions as to how to combat the dampness by adjusting the AC, only left the house extremely warm. We found we had to change our sheets more often than should have been necessary. Rock Creek Retreat is located in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains/Pisgah Forest of western NC, and our Florida family will continue to come to this area year after year. Owner response:We are always pleased to help our renters with their vacation planning in any way that we can--sharing our knowledge of the area, its sites, shopping needs and questions about our house and property. We are centrally located to many interesting towns that guests will enjoy exploring to the extent their vacation time in the area allows. Many guests choose to get their supplies on the way in and just spend their time relaxing at the house and enjoying the natural setting and comfort of our house. To add to the comfort of the house, when the weather is not suitable for opening windows we recently installed a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim ductless a/c heat pump with controls in four zones of the house. We have scheduled an appointment with the installer to help us refine instructions for the settings to maximize the comfort of this top-of-the line climate control system.

Look forward to another visit!

My sisters and I had a very relaxing (and all-too-brief) weekend stay at Rock Creek Retreat. The cabin was everything we expected and then some. The owner's communications were always prompt and courteous. The cabin is lovely, and its location is beautiful and private. We wanted to feel far from civilization yet have a short drive to shopping/restaurants, and this was perfect. Even the weather cooperated. Considering it was March, we were taking our chances there. The creek is stunning, curving directly in front of the cabin in a huge semi-circle. I hope we can come back another year in June, when the rhododendrons on the hillside across the river are in bloom.

Owner response:Hearing from guests like C.C. (we consider all our renters guests in our home) that her stay at our vacation home was all she expected is among the greatest joys that Rock Creek Retreat gives to us. I could have written that review myself as it reflects many of the reasons we chose this house. Many guests come year after year and consider it a familiar and comfortable retreat from their busy lives--sitting on the porch, listening to the river, communing with nature to de-stress, re-energize. It is also a lovely setting for an opportunity to connect with friends and family without distractions or a private retreat to reconnect with yourself.

Home Away From Home

Guest: Tracy (Lilburn, GA)
Date of Stay: 11/21/10 Review Submitted: 03/09/11

My family has been coming to Rock Creek for many years now. It feels like our 2nd home! Everything is so comfortable and familiar to us. We are never lacking for anything-the owners have thought through every detail needed for a relaxing stay! The cabin is cozy, yet large enough to accomodate many people. We had Thanksgiving dinner here and had plenty of room. We love the surroundings-the creek is so peaceful. We love how you feel so secluded, but are so close to many neat places in western North Carolina. We hope to return to Rock Creek for many years to come!

Family Vacation

Guest: Vicky & Family (Deltona, FL)
Date of Stay: 10/24/10 Review Submitted: 10/29/10

We stayed at River Creek Resort from 10/24 - 10/29 and wish we had more time. Our entire family went and it was the most relaxing time we've all had in quite a while. The house was exactly as is it portrayed in the photos and slept 8 of us comfortably, including a toddler. The front porch is the best - the rockers and swing were used constantly during our stay. If you left your windows in riverfront bedrooms open at night, you could go to sleep with the lull of the river. Don't miss going into the town of Black Mountain - the shopping in the quaint shops was excellent. You are close enough to do Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and Hendersonville is only a bit further. Asheville is also very close. You get the best of both worlds, remote yet close to do things. We hope to return again.

The perfect vacation!!

Guest: Kim (Canton, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 07/30/10 Review Submitted: 08/25/10

Where to start? This is the perfect place for the stressed out, overworked and generally burnt out!! We took the family here for a week the first week of August and it was just what we needed!! Seclusion, peace and quiet (no att cell service here, sorry kids!) and relaxation. Our girls (14 & 13) were suddenly 10 again in the river.....floating from one point to another. Hubby caught one fish and my son got skunked but they had a great time trying!! The mornings are perfect, coffee on the porch watching the hummingbirds. Amazing activities within an hours drive in all directions, most are much closer. The home is amazing! Plenty of room, comfy beds and nicely decorated. If I could have broght the sofa home......it will put you right to sleep. I highly recommend Rock Creek Retreat! We wanted to return here before we ever left!! Nothing bad to say except 2 weeks would have been better!

As far as our stay at Rock Creek Retreat . . . it was great! The house was perfect for what we needed and everything was just as stated in the advertisement. The house was immaculate when we arrived and everything was very easy to find and operate. The porch was very relaxing and the river was a great place to cool off in. It also helped having a washer and dryer as we were limited on luggage due to flight restrictions, so that was a lifesaver. We would recommend Rock Creek Retreat to anyone! Wish I were there now.
