Atenas villa description
Coffee is “on the house” at Vista Verde, an intimate villa resting atop a peaceful mountainside in the center of a working coffee plantation overlooking the town of Atenas and the Costa Rican Central Valley. Framed by the color, rainforests and picturesque coffee plantations of the region, the villa belongs to a “finca de cafe” (working coffee plantation). Immerse yourself in the Vista Verde experience, the café culture, with access to a fully stocked Barista Bar including samplings of the area’s fresh roasted coffee and everything you need for your brewing pleasure! What better way to begin the day, absorbing panoramic views of the mountains, valleys and volcanoes enveloped by the Pacific Ocean’s clouds. Relax at sunset with a glass of wine watching the lights of the Central Valley and San Jose as they begin to twinkle.
Inviting and warm, Vista Verde reflects the unique culture, architecture, colors and styles from the region. The villa was finished and fully furnished in 2012, and consists of a cozy home and separate guest casita. The open plan and sunny views of Vista Verde allow you to experience all things wonderful in Costa Rica. The near-perfect weather and temperate climate allow you to keep the doors open to the peaceful sounds and richness of the environment. No AC is ever needed!
The open, single-level floor plan of the living room and kitchen, featuring large sliding glass doors, access an expansive terrace overlooking the plush valley and surrounding mountains and volcanoes. This 1,775 square foot home consists of two master bedroom suites with king beds and two bathrooms with large showers. Make your own fresh juice or mixed drinks from fruit you pick from our natural hillside gardens! A juicer is included in this well-appointed kitchen along with the aforementioned Barista Bar. Enjoy meals indoors or “al fresco” on the terrace with an extensive array of patio furniture for dining and relaxing. Luxuriate in the pool while soaking in the sun, surrounding gardens and breathtaking views beyond. If not on the patio enjoying an evening outdoors, the great room offers a 42”” LED-HD LG flatscreen TV with surround sound.. Or, play your own music from the “sound bar” IPod/IPad dock. The main house also includes an office, hi-speed internet and full-service laundry room.
Vista Verde stands apart with amenities such as Ralph Lauren linens, towels and bathrobes. No expenses were spared with high-end furnishings in the living room, bedrooms as well as the outdoor patio. Luxury finishes include granite countertops, custom beam & high panel ceilings and hand-painted artisan sinks.
Need more room for teenagers or guests? Vista Verde includes a quaint one bedroom/one bathroom apartment separate from the home with a fully appointed kitchen. Also included are laundry facilities and a deck with its own stunning views of the Central Valley & San Jose.
Rest, Relaxation or Recreation?
The choice is yours! Surf the internet from the patio or ride Pacific Ocean waves a short drive away. Take a short drive to town. Walk a quarter mile down the road either side of Vista Verde for breakfast or dinner to Tico restaurants offering great views of the valleys below. Hike, walk or ride your mountain bike along scenic mountain roads a quarter mile away or ride to neighboring plantations. Or simply relax with your favorite book in an outdoor arena of lush greenery, fragrant fruit trees and aromatic coffee plants. Soothe yourself in the warm breezes, soak your feet in the cool water and enjoy the sights and sounds of exotic wild birds, native animals and butterflies. As Austin Powers would say: this is groooooovy, baby!
Vista Verde is for a discerning family or couples looking to relax, explore and recreate in a tranquil, beautiful and natural setting.

About: Patrick & Martha O'Leary's permanent home is in beautiful Ridgway, Colorado, Gateway to the San Juan Mountains. The saying goes: 'If you're lucky enough to live in the mountains... You're lucky enough!'. Pat & Marti have been married for 30+ years and were also lucky enough to be parents to Alex (27) and Katie (26), two very special young people. Patrick has been in commercial real estate (shopping centers, office buildings, student housing) for over 30 years, working out of Chicago until he opted for 'Retirement Life' in 2010. Patrick keeps himself busy with several by providing oversight on several major real estate projects in the United States and Costa Rica, and has recently joined the Board of Trustees of the Ridgway Chautauqua Society, a non-for-profit community theater undergoing physical restoration and programatic rejuvination in downtown Ridgway. Marti works part time at Balance Natural Medicine as the office administrator and remains actve with golf, hiking, skiing, jogging & keeping Patrick happy & grounded.
“...the whole place is simple and “especial”. It’s as if one were living within a bird & butterfly sanctuary, amidst the blossoming coffee plants and shade-providing fruit trees. Pick your own oranges for fresh juice in the morning... or mix margaritas from scratch poolside, using the abundant supply of fresh limes. Lemons, avocados, bananas and mangos are also available... organic and right off the vine. From our first night there... when we returned from dinner in Atenas and stepped outside to see the glittering lights of San Jose over the pool’s patio... to the last days that we spent lamenting our impending departure... it was entirely natural, tranquil and beautiful. We also have to admit... Atenas did live up to its reputation as the “city with the world’s best climate” while we were there... so National Geographic wasn’t foolin’ when it bestowed that title on the town back in the 1990s. Sunny, fresh and warm every morning... a soft rain each afternoon in the rainy season and a constant temperature year round... followed by starry, cool and “sleep-able” nights. What an opportunity to stay and experience Costa Rica in such a unique setting, the “cheery” house and the perfect weather in what we now simply call our “coffee farm house. We simply love it and are sure you will too!”—Pat & Marti O.
