Timber Lodge Log Home with Views, Tipi, Hot Tub & Theater Room
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Eastsound
We had been exploring different States on the West Coast for where to purchase our second vacation rental home when we discovered the San Juan Islands. On the flight over from Seattle we were totally taken back by the beautiful scenery. We viewed property on all three islands but, by the time the ferry landed on Orcas Island we knew instantly that this was the island for us. I had seen the photos of Timber Lodge on the internet so I was excited for the agent to show us the home. We had pretty much decided if it was as good in person we were buying it. The moment my husband and I stepped into the front door we were awestruck and said “where do we sign”. It was so much better than we expected and had the real rustic Lodge feel. Best of all was it was on three acres of privacy and had much better ocean views than we imagined. We wanted something totally unique, rustic with a true feeling of the Northwest and we had found what we were looking for a vacation cabin that we could really call "truly spectacular".
The greatest feature of this genuine Log home is every wall in the home is truly made out of logs. Log homes are known for being cooler in the summer months and nice and warm and cozy in the winter. My favorite time to visit Timber Lodge is in the cold winter months when we have a fire going in the great room and can sit down with a nice cup of tea and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the magnificent views of the sound.

Owner's Map of Eastsound
After spending 25 years in high tech procurement as a start-up company expert and entrepreneur I left that part of my life behind to become the Vacation Lady. In the early 1980’s I was having to make frequent trips to the Far East and experienced High tea at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. It was during this trip that the inspiration and entrepreneurial vision came to open Tea Salons in the US. In 1988, I founded a new specialty retail tea business known as Lisa’s Tea Treasures. Created the concept, interior design elements and business plan model from a one-store operation to over 16 US franchised operations and two International locations in less than four years which placed us number 35 of the 100 fastest growing privately held companies in Silicon Valley in 1995. After 10 years in the tea business and spending stints in high tech start-ups I was ready for a new challenge. Since my husband and I enjoyed traveling and dabbling in real estate and nearing retirement age it seemed like the perfect fit. In 1996 we founded Vacation Holdings, purchased our first vacation home and set off to build a luxury vacation rental business using our properties as vacation rentals. It was such a natural progression as I could use my skills in purchasing, interior design and use the same disciplines required in franchising such as scheduling, creating instruction manuals for guests and tracking linen, towels and kitchen inventory. Basically, I was back in the Franchise business only this time we were creating turnkey vacation rentals instead of retail store fronts. My lessons learned from the service industry are applied every day in customer service and satisfaction. We are now up to 9 properties in various areas of the US and Virgin Island and I can say that this is the best time of my life as there is nothing more satisfying than helping to make a Dream Vacation come true.

Our stay was absolutely amazing from the moment we arrived! The views from the living room and deck were breathtaking. It was fantastic to sit and eat dinner while looking out over the ocean. The tipi was fantastic! My children loved playing in it and it was even heated! They pretended to be cowboys and Indians all day. The log cabin itself was astonishing. I can't wait until summer to go again. I have recommended this place to everyone I know and even boasted on facebook about it!

The owners were very accommodating and responsive when setting up the reservation. We arrived to find the lodge lit, heat on, firewood next to the fireplace, and music softly playing. What a very nice touch! The kitchen had everything we could imagine. We even baked bread each day in the breadmaker. The layout and furnishing were comfortable and high quality. The views are stunning, the grounds are lots of fun to explore(the tipi was the kids' favorite)We will be back soon!

The house is beautiful and the views amazing. I wish we had stayed longer than a weekend. The finished basement with a pool table and dart board made for hours of entertainment. There were deer and raccoons in the backyard. Overall, this was a great get-away. The only thing that would improve the experience would be a hot tub on the deck. We'll definitely be back!

Thank you for such a wonderful experience in the beautiful log cabin. Our family was so cozy, happy and delighted with the gorgeous accommodations and all the fun native Indian inspired decorating details! The kids loved it and the adults could not stop enjoying the amazing December scenery around us. Thank you for a great stay and a fantastic new adventure for my dad’s 65th birthday!

The Timber lodge home is situated among tall trees with breathtaking views of the East Sound. A truly classic log home with tasteful and upscale decor. The home is exceptionally clean and well kept. We greatly enjoyed and utilized all of the amenities...the deck spa, pool table, saloon piano, professional/high quality home theater room and furnished tee-pee. An absolute pleasurable stay. We will definitely return

What a wonderful and memorable holiday we had on Orcas Island. To experience different sides of the island, we intentionally split our stay among two homes. We spent the first half of our vacation at the Headland House, a stunning and private home in Deer Harbor. Thinking nothing could impress us beyond our experience at the Headland House, we were indeed equally impressed with the comfy and cozy Timberlodge home, where we spent the second half of our vacation.

From the minute we drove down the driveway then entered the front door the Timberlodge was everything we could have possibly hoped it would be. It was clean, warm, inviting, spacious, quiet and secluded. Oh, and did I mention romantic. My soon to be wife, (thank you very much), and I spent four nights here in '09 and time seemed to stand still. We couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful and comfortable. We only used a small portion of the house but what we did was outstanding! We only wish we had had more time there. We went in April and practicaly had the whole island to ourselves. The small restaurant at the top of East Sound was fantastic and the shops so fun browse. The ferry ride, wide open beaches and the Timberlodge to come back to made the whole trip a fairy tale for both of us. Thank you so much for helping make our first week back together so memorable. Sorry it took so long to write a review but we've been a bit busy. btw, love the new counter tops in the kitchen. We would recomend this place to anyone for any reason. Thanks again.

What a magical place to arrive to from the hustle and bustle of Seattle. We were looking for a peaceful getaway and that’s exactly what we got. Beautiful, cozy house right in the middle of a beautiful landscape. We took out a row boat on the lake, did several hikes and enjoyed the view from the deck with a glass of wine daily! We only wish our stay was longer – we’ll be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in your beautiful home and beautiful island! Thank you for opening your home to us as if we were family. Our children loved the Tipi and the fenced in area to play. The view from your house is amazing to wake up to every morning! Our children enjoyed collecting sea glass and the rock beach in Eastsound, playing at the sandy beach in Moran State Park, and playing at the Fun House. We also enjoyed all the games you furnished we had so many to choose from along with the puzzles. Thank you

What a way to get together with some friends and family…This is an incredible place! The kids absolutely loved the Teepee and searching for bigfoot. Too short a stay for sure. We went for a kayak adventure it was a lot of fun. Do not expect to see orcas but we did see harbor seals and porpoise and on the way back home we saw a raccoon.
