Kihei Kai condo description
Unit 11, at the Kihei Kai, is an updated unit in a beautiful “Old School-Hawaiian” building. From the moment you walk through the lush, tropical entrance to the property, past the pool, and head down toward the beach you’ll start to relax. By the time you see the beach – either from the lanai, or the bedroom, or in person, you’ll be fully laid-back.
Top floor of a two story building, the one bedroom unit has a king sized bed and a pull out couch. You can see the ocean from the bedroom and the lanai – you can even see it from the shower if you choose! The sound of the waves sends you off to sleep at night. The ocean breezes keep the unit cool enough, but there is air conditioning if you need.
On the beach means ON THE BEACH! Step out on to Sugar Beach for swimming, miles and miles of uninterrupted beach walking, whale watching, turtle watching, or relaxing on one of the many beach chairs. Head over to one of the two canoe clubs nearby and learn to paddle a Hawaiian outrigger canoe.
Situated on a quiet cul-de-sac in North Kihei, close to the intersection of North and South Kihei Roads and the Mokulele Hwy (311) puts you in the center of everything you’ll want to do in Maui. Only 15 minutes or less drive from the Kahului Airport. This great location makes it easy to reach historic Lahaina town, or the beautiful golf courses, beaches and shops of Wailea.

I am so happy with my choice to stay at this condo. We felt at home the moment our bags were unpacked we sat down for our first Maui cocktail. I will defiantly book this condo again when I go to Maui with my husband and son, but for a "girlfriends'" trip it was awesome as well. Just out the door is Sugar beach (one of my favorites) so great for long walks, running, swimming and paddling. A few days into our stay a couple other rooms filled with fellow Outrigger Paddlers and it was great that the Kihei Kai let us keep our boats tucked away under the bushes. Every evening all the condo guests would gather on the front lawn by the beach and have a cocktail and watch the sun set... how lovely, and so friendly. One night we even had a potluck appetizer party. The Condo itself is very well appointed and you can see that the owners care about their place, the carpet is new, as is the drapes and linens and a number of items in the kitchen. My favorite was to sit in the chair in the corner by the lamp and read and have my morning coffee... or a night cap. I can not wait to return, I would go back today if I could.

This was the 10th year we've spent the month of Feb. in this condo. It almost feels like our "second home". We love the location, just steps to the beach and centrally locate to anywhere on the island. We have developed long-lasting friendships with many of the other guests staying in the complex and we look forward to reconnecting with them every year. The condo itself is comfortable and adequately supplied. The unit has not been updated very much over the past 10 years but since the new owners purchased it in December 2012 we are already seeing some changes, which we really appreciate. The most telling aspect of our review is that we return yearly and highly recommend it to others!

We really enjoyed our stay in this unit and would stay again and would recommend it to others. We have stayed in this complex before and we keep returning because of it being right on the beech to enjoy a walk in the mornings, see the wales and in the evenings watch the beautiful sunset with always a group of returning friendly renters. My husband enjoyed the snorkel gear that was available and the big tv! Nice unit and owners.

We had a wonderful stay in this unit. It is a very friendly place on the beach with many owners and return guests in the complex. It has a very homey personal appeal. What a pleasure to fall asleep to the sound of the surf. The listing was accurate as were the pictures. The unit was clean and the owner was very helpful with any and all questions. I would certainly recommend this unit to a friend or relative.

Condo was filthy!
Condo was filthy!
We have stayed at different units at this complex for many years and loved it but this unit ruined it for us. I was appalled at how dirty the condo was. The carpet was horribly stained (see the throw rug in the pic covering the stains), the couch/bed disgusting. The kitchen was not well equipped. The utensils were so old. The grout in the bathroom was very, very dirty. The pillows had body fluid stains (saw this after I pulled the pillow cases off to wash). We could forgive that sometimes accommodations may not be everything you hoped for but this was beyond unacceptable. Upon my arrival, which was 5 days after my family had arrived, I informed the owners that the condo was disgusting. My husband had told me before I arrived but having had stayed in the complex before, I thought it couldn't be that bad. I advised the owner of my findings and she said that I could move out if I didn't like it. I said its Christmas, where am I going to find a place? After the conversation ended, I called the property manager of the complex and she was absolutely great. She said that a unit was open and we could have it. I called the owners of this unit back and said that all they have to do is reimburse me for the 8 days I had left and we would move out of the condo. The owner said that if they agreed to pay me back the remaining days, then I would have to agree not to post negative comments. They said that they would let me know their decision the next morning (christmas eve). I said I just wanted my family to stay in a clean location and begin to enjoy our family holiday. The next day, they told me that they wanted us to move out of the condo so that they could get it cleaned and then have us move back in 4 days later! My total vacation days left was 8! I couldn't believe that they would even consider doing this to us. He told me that he didnt want to lose the revenue from my stay. They told me that they had 3 days before my family got there to clean the place and I said that is more than ample time to clean the carpets and make it inhabitable. They told me that they are new owners and just didn't have the chance to fix it up. I guess renters should pay the consequence of that. This is about how we were treated. It was our holiday and inconveniencing us was not a concern. You can always fix the condo but do you really want to risk ruining your holiday or catch something by staying in a condo where treatment from a property owner is like this? No!

Owner response: We were equally as upset that this traveller didn't like our condo. We want everyone to enjoy staying here, and do our best to ensure that happens. This family had already been in the unit for 5 days without complaint before we were contacted. The first phone call we received promised a negative review that would hurt our future business unless there was financial compensation in the form of a substantial refund. We offered to immediately send someone over to clean whatever was required. She agreed at first, but then refused them entry. We offered to pay for her family to stay in another unit - at our expense - while we steam-cleaned the carpet and replaced anything that was upsetting her, but she refused. We did everything in our power to resolve this. We purchased this condo partially based on what looked like years of positive reviews - people loving it, and returning annually. The unit has been solidly booked since we purchased, and we continue to make improvements as time permits.
Location was as described. Photos did not accurately depict the ocean view. Fairly clean living and bedroom area bathroom was not very clean found long black hairs. Owner called when we arrived and asked us to let him know if anything went wrong. Propery desciption said the condo had a washer and dryer but that is not the case there are pay washers and dryers in the complex. This property is very dated and needs to have some upgrades before I would recommend it to any body.There is a farmers market close by that is a little pricey and not open on the weekends. Beach was very clean and very long great for walking and jogging.

When we spoke to this guest, he explained that he was referring to details provided in the previous owner's VRBO listing (who he entered into the rental agreement with) and that he had never seen our listing. We have created an accurate property description and took the photos in this listing ourselves on December 1, 2012.
