The apartment:
The upper story of our carriage house, The Springfield, is a home we created for ourselves while we renovated the main house on the property. It is sophisticated yet warm and cozy at the same time. You will enjoy your privacy inside or on the deck, and can look out at the beautiful trees which surround the property. It will be your oasis in which to relax from the outside world, yet only a 5 minute walk (on level ground) to the center of Mill Valley. If you feel more adventurous, you can explore the majestic nature of Cascade Canyon or Mt. Tam which begins just down the block.
The apartment is composed of a living room, open kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with glass-tiled European shower which is beautifully lit by a diffused glass window in the shower, and a deck off the bedroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed, feathertop mattress, and the linens are 'second to none'. It is outfitted with wireless internet and a modern AV system which includes digital cable, flat screen TV, and DVD/CD player. The kitchen has a gas stove and large refrigerator. Parking is always available right in front of the house.
The cottage (lower cost)
Nestled into a lush, beautifully designed garden, flanked by a majestic fig tree, this garden cottage is the quintessential Mill Valley retreat for a visit to this gorgeous area. The front of the cottage features a cute porch that faces the garden. Inside, 'center stage' you will find an incredibly comfortable queen size bed with fabulous European sheeting. The bathroom has a glass enclosed shower and its window faces the fig tree. The kitchen area is small but well appointed with a large refrigerator, a four burner gas stove and sink. You will also find a coffee machine for your morning java and a microwave for a quick meal. And there is a fabulous fire place perfect for cooler evenings curled up with a book.

There are of course WiFi and cable TV.
Snuggled into the yummy sheets and surrounded by nature you might have your best sleep ever.

My boyfriend and I had the good fortune of staying at this garden cottage when the flowers were just beginning to pop. The grounds of the main home, cottage and apartment are absolutely beautiful. The cottage itself is elegant and comfortable with high quality amenities. We came for a weekend of hiking and mountain biking and the location was perfect. With the exception of two excursions to the city, we never had to drive. Our favorite hike was just out the front door, access to the miles of mountain bike trails was just up the street, and charming, downtown Mill Valley was only a short walk. I hope to be back soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Set amidst towering woods and flowering trees and landscape and elegant architecture, one cannot imagine a more beautiful and restful setting than the Springfield. The apartment is cozy and comfortable; decorated in dramatic art which reflects its historic role in film production pioneering ; and outfitted with tasteful and high-quality amenities. The proprietor, Joel Rosenberg, is uncommonly attentive and responsive to our every request, It’s a rare gem.”Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Mill Valley is a pleasant town and this is a pleasant spot to stay. The cottage is small but has lots of charm. The apartment gives you more room to enjoy. Tastefully decorated, great showers, nestled in a beautiful spot - owner's garden and Mill Valley walks. Owners are just as pleasant.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent 5 nights at this beautiiful spot. The owners have done an amazing job of creating a space to delight in-- with walls of fine art, a tastefully decorated living room and bedroom offering comfort and peace. The bed and sheets were great as was the private patio off the bedroom. A super location, practically next to the Mill Valley Libraryl It is an 8 minute walk to town and its resaturants, entertainment spots and shops. It's just a 3 minute walk to the Dipsea Steps and hikes galore. The owners, Joel and Jane, were warm and welcoming, yet very respectful of our space. I can't say enough about how enjoyable our stay was. We will return for surelRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

About the owner: We've lived on both coasts (NY and CA) and have been back in the San Francisco area for quite some time now. Mill Valley is a treasure but we love to travel (Europe, Asia and South America) to take in different cultures, meet people, and experience the local food, music, art, architecture and nature. This is a special location from which to explore the trails of Marin County or to drive a short distance to San Francisco, Berkeley or Napa Valley...and if you need suggestions don't hesitate to ask.

This is a large corner property with a big beautiful garden. We fell in love with the house the moment we saw it. We also love living so close to downtown Mill Valley without being in the middle of it all.
