My husband and I and our 2 daughters thought the Mango Shack was perfect for us. We wished we could have stayed longer. It truly is located in the jungle and we found a perfect spot to swim in at the right side of Moloa Bay. We will be back someday.

Loved it! Definitely the perfect place for us. So close to beauty-full beaches. Great central location. Out door shower was heaven. Lots of life at The Mango Shack. Just at the shack we saw geckos, anoles, wild pigs and much more. The bugs that everyone's been ranting about didn't bother us so bad (maybe they're more abundant just at certain times of year). GO to the mango shack. Especially if you're a couple that loves the outdoors and adventuring. Discover what life is really about :)

Stayed at the Mango Shack for several days at the beginning of November. Weather was wetter than usual but the Shack was a cozy place to spend our time on the north side of the island. Be prepared for mosquitoes! The best way to combat them is to enter and exit the Shack quickly and don't let them come in with you. The outdoor shower was great but had to stay under the water to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Geckos were fun to watch in the evenings and the birds of paradise (Kauai roosters) were out in fine form early in the mornings. The kitchen has everything we needed to get by for preparing our own meals and the location of the shack made us feel miles from the touristy resorts while still being realatively close to a nice beach and the highway.

Arriving at the Mango Shack we were greeted with just the island vibe that we were looking for--simple, clean and integrated accss to the outdoors. The outdoor shower was a special delight! Also, previous guests had left some wonderful treats that spoke highly of the Aloha spirit. But as delightful as the physical property was, the real treat was the management. We had a minor glitch with the Internet access. My text querry was immediately answered and the issue resolved promptly and with gracious accommodation FAR beyond my expectations. Suffice it to say I cannot find any superlatives to adequately convey my exprience of that level of service--truly astounding. A final word of caution though. Kauai is well-populated with feral chickens and the roosters begin their crowing around 2am! Bring your ear-plugs. And this is not just at the Mango Shack, this is across the whole island. I can't speak highly enough abo

This was our first time in the jungle rather than on a beach. I really enjoyed the screen windows and listening to the night sounds (we’re used to the Kauai chickens). The Shack was really clean when we arrived and well equipped. I loved the kitchen (it even had a salad spinner!) and the outdoor shower! We also enjoyed sitting on the deck playing with the “kitty”. But, you have to love bugs! They would come in every evening for a few hours and just be bothersome but don’t let them keep you away. My husband left tips for combating them in the guestbook. :)) The management is wonderful! They were really helpful prior to our stay and the one time I contacted them during our stay

We stayed for two weeks and that was a mistake. I think you could stand this place for a few nights but the bugs both inside and out and run-down condition and lack of amenities-including those listed on the description make this a tough place for an extended stay. Outdoor shower was the best, though.
Owner response:We have multiple guest books (not online) of hundreds of happy comments and reviews... The Mango Shack is booked almost full time and an unhappy customer is rare. I am sorry you never contacted us during your stay so we could attend to your needs. Yes, the Mango Shack IS a "shack" on pretty land that is mowed and trimmed, adjacent to jungle - and it is priced as such. It is advertised as "rustic" and it is fun. Amenities refer to well stocked kitchen utensils and appliances, hot shower, privacy and fresh clean towels and linens - all there. Understandable if you need more - perhaps a "shack" is not the way to go. I love Kauai and want to share the experience - there are lots of higher end and high priced places to stay. The Mango Shack makes Kauai available to those who want to enjoy the island and need a clean place to sleep each night in a great North Shore location!

We loved the shack the minute we saw it!
Not fancy, but absolutely the nicest place we have stayed in our 3 trips to Kauai.
Just up the road from Larsen's and Moloa'a beaches, and located close to both Hanalei and Kapaa.
The kitchen was the best supplied we have come across, the hot plate and toaster oven, along with the outdoor grill were all we needed to cook fresh fish every night... and the friendly kitties got the scraps

We stayed at the Mango Shack from March 5-15th and we just wanted to let you know that we loved it! The Mango Shack truly made our holiday very fulfilling and we wanted to spend a lot of time there in the garden and on the deck even though I nearly got killed by a falling mango!! Which makes a great story by the way! The garden was amazing. We have told all our friends how wonderful your place is so hopefully they will travel to Kauai and stay at the Mango Shack. The house was also very clean and nice when we arrived!! I was sad to leave and we miss Mango! Just wanted to let you know how great it was. Thanks Melanie & Peter

LOVE this place! We like everything about it. When we arrived we were so happy at how clean and fresh everything was. We woke up on our first morning to a wonderful garden full of fruit. A true treat for us coming from Alaska. Love the outdoor shower. We would absolutely stay here again if we visit Kauai again. Thanks

What a great place! We spent 6 nights here and would have loved to have had it be at least 2 weeks. The island is wonderful and it was great to come "home" to the Mango Shack every evening. We cooked meals here and found everything we needed to prepare them. The mangoes were wonderful. What a great feast! The owners caring didn't end with booking, but they were available to help before and during the stay - and even after when I realized I had forgotten a charger there. We highly recommend a stay at the shack if open air, beautiful surroundings, a wonderful outdoor shower and a quiet place on the deck are what you are looking for. We hope to return to Kauai again someday and would definitely want to stay at the Mango Shack.

I really had a nice relaxing time while staying at the Shack. We stocked the fridge and stay put making meals on the outdoor grill. It was by far the most layed back week I can remember. The secluded Moloa'a beach close by was real treat. The outdoor shower is something to look foward to on my next visit.

We had a wonderful time at the Mango Shack. We especially enjoyed the openess of the Shack that allowed the wind and sounds to enter which made you feel truly a part of the environment. Breakfast and dinner on the deck were a real treat. The shack is rustic and secluded. If you want hotel amenities and activities, don't stay here. But if you want to feel as if you have really been a part of the island, you can't do better. Don

I visited this lovely little place at the end of September on my own at the spur of the moment. My vacation was meant to be a time of true escape; to vacate, collect myself, and recreate in the true sense of those terms. I had a wonderful time, to say the very least. After a day of exploring the island, searching for special places, I always felt glad to come back to the peace of this place. I could prepare a simple meal and kick back on the deck with a glass of wine and still feel 'connected' to the island. I often found myself nodding off among the aromas of the beautiful, lush plants and flowers and the strikingly exotic birds and their songs. Even the chickens and the roosters with their often inopportune calls had their comical charm. No luaus in the distance or lights to interfere with the incredibly dark sky and equally bright stars. The nights were generally silent as can be, broken only by an occasional rain - a recipe for sweet dreams, to be sure! In the morning, a fresh pot of coffee, then a stroll down to Moloa`a Bay and one can know the meaning of heaven on earth. If you want room service, stay in a hotel. If you want to be waited on, go to a restaurant. If you want to feel the real Aloha Spirit, stay in a place like this. And if you are in love, sensuality is all around you here - you may not want to leave! But do try to tear yourselves away and explore this astounding island. A hearty Mahalo nui loa to the Roger's for sharing a very special place!

The Mango Shack was all we wanted...Nothing less, nothing more. When selecting a place to stay on Kauai, we wanted something that was somewhat remote, private, and had everything we would need to cook up things at home when we came back from a busy day out. The Mango Shack provided much more! Fruits from the backyard, and the Best Sunrise on the Island located down the road...what more could you wish for? If you like playing in the North Shore and East Side, this is the perfect location; central to them. Close to local farmers markets, and anything else you will need. The only thing the place needed was a Propane Grill, so we went out an purchased on and gifted it to the place. If that doesn't say we liked it, what else can?

Mango Shack is a gem in the rough. We've stayed in other "fancier" rentals, but this is the one where you can finally let your hair down. While it has every amenity we needed, Mango Shack doesn't take itself too seriously. It was pleasantly simple and uncomplicated. What could be better for Hawaii?

We stayed at the Mango Shack in March and had the absolute best time. This place is definately about being on a tropical island, and not at a luxery resort. Thats exactly what we wanted. We are dreaming about our return.

The Mango Shack has the fancy hotels beat as far as the kind of accommodations we like (private and rustic). It was delightful to make it our home for a week while we were visiting Kauai ~ so much nicer than sharing a building with a multitude of others. It was comfortable and cozy ~ the outdoor shower was the absolute best!

We were honored to be the first guests at the Mango Shack! This beautiful low-key retreat had everything we needed--seclusion, sweetness, a beautiful deck (w/BBQ!) that overlooks a jungly valley, thoughtful and functional details--and nothing we didn't -- hassles, crowds, phone calls. We spent almost a month on Kaua'i, in a variety of low- cost rentals, and the Mango Shack was definitely our favorite!

The Mango Shack is a restful and happy place to be. There are no worries here. Staying in the Mango Shack allows you to fully enjoy Kauai's natural setting, birds, breezes, fragrances and sounds (yes, even the Kauai roosters!) At night you will see the stars which are brighter than anywhere else and we hear the rythym of the distant surf rising up the valley. Kauai is a place to love and the Mango Shack is in the heart of it!
