Fisherman's Cove condo description

When we travel over 1,000 miles from our home in Kansas City to enjoy a beach vacation we're not interested in being 'steps from the beach,' 'across from the beach,' or having what is often euphemistically advertised as, a 'view of the beach.'

In our opinion, it simply makes no sense to stop 1,000 or even 500 feet short of our destination. This is why, after over 40-years of traveling all around Florida, and an intense three-year search for what we consider to be the perfect location, we chose to buy a third floor condo at Fisherman's Cove where we can watch manatees cruise and dolphins jump in the crystal waters that are less than a stone's throw from our lanai.

Fisherman's Cove is built on a very narrow strip of sand. The gulf is little more than 100’ from the lanai, and the bay inlet is only about 200’ from the front balcony. This gives you the best of both worlds - magnificent sunsets and beautiful sunrises. We are so close to the water that some of our guests have said, 'sitting on the lanai is like being on the lido deck of a cruise ship.' I know of only one other condo on the entire Gulf Coast of Florida that can boast of this magnificent setting.

After buying our dream beach retreat, our first priority was perfecting the 130 square foot lanai. At the risk of sounding gosh, we spared no expense when we decided to rip out the old and start fresh with floor to ceiling sliding glass panels, a large picture window to the south and a custom made tempered glass rail that provides you with a totally unobstructed view of the beach and gulf. The screens slide too, which allows you to take great sunset pictures without having to leave the secluded comfort of your private retreat.

With the wide open lanai, you will enjoy direct gulf views from the kitchen, dining room and living room. The master suite also has a direct beachfront view, and with its 3.5’ by 5.5’ sliding window, you will be lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the waves; the perfect prescription for relieving stress!

At the south end of Siesta Key you escape the maddening crowds common to the northern end of the island. At the south end traffic moves smoothly along tree-lined streets, and with three good restaurants and two bars within a short walk, you may decide there is no reason to venture beyond our little slice of paradise. Also within a short walk is a playground for kids, and secluded picnic area with a grill that is perfect for a sunset cookout.

Kayak rental and tours are also within easy walking distance; as are boat rentals, Jet Ski rentals, fishing guides and other activities. The fishing is great from both our beach and the bay, and I can help improve your luck by pointing out some of my favorite spots. Snook, Sheephead, various members of the Jack family, Flounder and Cobia are common, and if you stay with us midyear, don’t be surprised if you hook into a large Tarpon.

If you bring your own boat, or rent one during your stay, you are welcome to use any of the boat docks at Fisherman’s Cove free of charge. We also provide complimentary kayak storage, and have a specially designed kayak launching dock. Please let me know if you plan a kayak outing, and I’ll tell you about some great areas to explore in the mangrove islands that are only a very short paddle from our dock.

Beyond the short walk to these activities, you'll find several golf courses within five miles and 92 total courses in the Sarasota area. There are also numerous tennis courts available and, of course, great shopping, dining and nightlife; including the famed St. Armand's Circle.

Popular attractions that are within a short drive include The Ringling Brothers Museum, The Sailor Circus, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, The Sarasota Opera House, Marie Selby Botanical Garden and The Sarasota Classic Car Museum. In my opinion, the best muscle car museum in the country is only a half hour’s drive to the south.

During the winter and early spring, be sure to visit the renovated Ed Smith stadium where the Baltimore Orioles practice and play ahead of the regular season. Be sure to also allocate time and budget for some of the best restaurants in the country.

In addition to these activities, we provide our guests with a comprehensive “get- acquainted” package that includes a listing of our favorite restaurants (includes address, phone and web addresses, and in some cases, our critique of the menu), and some fun things to do that aren’t covered in the tourist brochures. For example, did you know there is a nearby beach where you can readily find fossilized shark teeth that may be over a million years old? Well, there is, but it’s not the one you’ll read about in the travel books and brochures.

While we enjoy the sporting activities, sightseeing and night life, our favorite ritual is decidedly more laid back. For us, it's all about the view, the sound of the waves and the open and uncrowded beaches that stretch for miles to both the north and south of the condo.

To our north you can walk for over two miles before you come to the famed “Point of Rocks,” and when you walk the beach to the south you'll pass through more than a mile of totally undeveloped beachfront. This is one of the few undeveloped areas you'll find on any of any of Florida’s Gulf barrier islands - it's just you, a cup of coffee, the birds and some fresh seashells that washed up during the night.

As you walk further south you'll come across the very exclusive North Casey's Key community. Here mansions boarder the water and you get to walk the beach of the rich and famous. If you’re up to it, you can continue south for a total of 13 miles before reaching the southern tip of Casey’s Key. Along the way you’ll walk past houses owned by people like Stephen King, Oprah and Michael Jordon.

Back at the condo you'll love the third floor direct view of the gulf and the sound of the waves as you drift off to sleep in a master suite that overlooks the gulf. Your guests will get to enjoy a wonderful sunrise over the bay from their bedroom in the morning.

The condo floor plan is spacious with large bedrooms that easily accommodate the king-size beds you’ll find in both the master suite and guest bedroom. Both bedrooms have plenty of closest space, and there are two freshly updated full bathrooms – one with a large tiled shower, and the other with a tub and shower. You may also enjoy the well-equipped kitchen with full-size appliances.

For your convenience, your reserved parking space is straight across from the entrance where you will find an elevator and carts you can use to move things between your vehicle and your room.

Please note: There are no hidden charges for our guests. We cover all charges for maid service, cleaning and fresh linens. We also provide free high speed broadband Internet access (wireless) as well as free cable and a condo phone for local and toll-free calls. If there should ever be a problem, we have full-time office and maintenance workers onsite, and provide our guests with 24/7 support! This is your time to relax, and we do everything we can to insure the only surprises are good surprises.

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway or a family vacation, Fisherman's Cove is a great destination. Please email with any questions. It would be our pleasure to help you plan the ideal Siesta Key vacation.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2012

About the owner: We have traveled the world in search of the perfect beach, including a trip to Ko Phi Phi Lee in Thailand, which was deemed to be the perfect beach in the movie “The Beach.” However, after 40-years of searching, we came to the conclusion that there is no such thing as the perfect beach. - On Siesta Key there are two distinctively different beach environments, and one of them will likely appeal to you. We are located at the southern end of Siesta Key where crowds are sparse, and seashells are abundant. At the northern end the inverse is true. - To the north is Crescent Beach, which is one of the widest beaches we’ve ever seen. This means even “beachfront” condos are usually more than a 1,000 feet from the water’s edge, and that is a long walk in soft sand. However, more important for us is the fact you can’t hear the waves from your condo. - Crescent Beach is lined wall-to-wall high-rise condos that are orientated so there are only a small number of rooms that directly face the beach. Travelers should consider this when reading about rooms described as “beach view;” you may have to lean out from the lanai to actually view the beach. - At the southern end of Siesta Key you’ll find Turtle Beach. The sand at Turtle Beach is similar to what you commonly see along the Florida Gulf Coast, and is loaded with shells. - While the width of Turtle Beach can vary with changing tides and currents, the water’s edge is typically about 125’ from our lanai. We absolutely love being that close to the water. While relatively narrow, Turtle Beach extends for ~ 15-miles from “Point of Rocks,” which is what separates it from Crescent Beach, to the southern tip of Casey’s Key. - The moral to the story: While there is no such thing as “the” perfect beach, there is a perfect beach for you. It may be different from what we like, but that’s the great thing about beaches – there are plenty of choices, and while none are universally perfect, they all beat the heck out of shoveling snow.

Why the Owner Chose Fisherman's Cove:
Our requirements were simple - we wanted to be as close to the water's edge as possible so we could enjoy not just the ultimate view, but also sound of the waves lulling us to sleep every night. While “your mileage may vary,” for us one night with the waves is all it takes to melt away the stress of “the real world,” and put us in the perfect “Siesta” mood. We wanted miles of uninterrupted beach to walk, and most importantly for Sherri, an abundance of seashells to collect. We also wanted the option of a boat dock, and direct bay access. We wanted to be close to activities and good restaurants, but not stuck in the middle of crowds and traffic. We wanted a unit to be on the top floor of a building to keep noise at a minimum and to maximize our view. While we most often use the stairs, we also insisted there be a well-maintained elevator, as well as onsite management and maintenance. With Fisherman's Cove, we got all this and much more.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Fisherman's Cove is literally the only condo on any of the gulf coast barrier islands that gives each guest direct beach front to the west and direct bay front to the east. Bring your boat - there are ramps within walking distance and free docks for guests. If you don't have a boat, you can rent one just down the street. Bring your fishing gear - the fishing is great in both the gulf and the bay. If you don't bring your own stuff, you can rent fishing gear close by. Whatever you do, be ready to relax and enjoy the spectacular sunsets from your third floor lanai - no one on the island has a better view!
