Castello is a fortified medieval village situated at 400m altitude on the beautiful Tuscan island of Giglio. It has a unique atmosphere thanks to narrow, granite-paved streets, delightful close-built houses, spectacular natural scenery and breathtaking views of mainland Argentario and nearby islands Giannutri, Monte Cristo and Elba. Clean, sandy beaches are 10 minutes away by bus or car, others may be reached on foot or by boat, and the sea is renowned for its crystal-clear water. At the beaches you can hire sun-beds, umbrellas and pedaloes, while at Campese or Giglio Porto there are excellent diving facilities, water taxis to take you to a quiet bay and motor boats for hire if you want to explore the coast on your own. There are excellent restaurants for all tastes at Castello and by the sea, while bars and shops are just down the street. A holiday on Isola del Giglio is an unforgettable experience and many people return to the island year after year to enjoy its special hospitality.
Giglio is beautiful all year round, but particularly so in springtime when the island's abundant wild flowers are in bloom and a walk along one of the island's ancient footpaths provides stunning views. The sea is usually comfortably warm for swimming from June to October, while scuba diving is practised in all seasons.
Activities: swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, canoeing, sailing, boating, walking, nature trails, bird-watching, in-shore fishing, deep-sea fishing... and just lazing on the beach.
