Located in the Languedoc region, Uzès is a jewel of a medieval/renaissance town which continues to be a center of culture, commerce, agriculture and activities. The beautifully restored center with its castle, the Duchy of Uzès, its renowned weekly markets on central plaza, the Place aux Herbes, its festivals of dance and music, its cafes, boutiques and antique shops, and many other attractions make it a charming place to vacation.
Uzès is near the famous Roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard (13 km), as well as several historical cities such as Nîmes (25 km), Avignon (35 km), and Arles (60 km). Outdoor activities in the surrounding country side include swimming in the Gardon river, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Sand beaches of the Mediterranean are about 80 km away.
The apartment is on the third floor of a recently renovated 18th century building near the center of Uzès and a two minute walk to the Place aux Herbes. [Please note - it is a third floor apartment and there is no elevator.] The living area of the apartment is 60 square meters (600 square feet) on two levels. On the first level are a small kitchen, eating area, and spacious living room with a fireplace and mantelpiece. A wooden staircase leads to the mezzanine and the bedroom. The bedroom opens out onto a lovely roof top terrace (12 square meters) with views of the Duchy and the rooftops of Uzès. Tasteful decoration with regional antiques and the original stone walls give the apartment charm and warmth. [Note: the stairs to the mezzanine are somewhat steep and may be difficult for young children or elderly people.]
The bedroom has one double bed (140 cm), and the mezzanine has a single bed with a pull-out bed that will comfortably accommodate one adult or two children. The water closet is on the first level and the bathroom (with bathtub/shower) on the second level. There is a closet on the second level. The apartment now has central air-conditioning and heating.

Charming, memorable

My wife and I spent a month here on sabbatical leave. The objectives were to write, relax, walk, and experience a small French town. The apartment is beautifully situated and very well kept. It is a stones throw from the ring road/street that contains many cafes and bakeries (8 bakeries within a five minute walk) and surrounds the charming pedestrian-only village center. Uzes is fabulous - markets on Saturday and Wednesday, good library, wine stores, and country walks/trails to many neighboring villages. The apartment is not overly fancy but has everything one wants for a warm and satisfying stay - be prepared for tight circular stairway. Owners very helpful. Highly, highly recommended.
Recommended for:Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

I spent a week at this property in July and cant fault it. The apartment is really lovely and the location is superb, just a few steps from the centre of town. Only downside is the amount of steps to climb, so it wouldnt suit someone with mobility problems. Uzes is beautiful and I cant wait to return Owner was excellent to deal with, highly recommended!
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
