Highlands Rental-- excellent rental
Highlands Rental-- excellent rental
My girlfriends and I had a girls weekend on the jersey shore. This rental was perfect for our needs. For the last 10 years, we have stayed in hotels ranging from barely inhabitable to overly priced hotel rooms in long branch for non-peak season. We decide to find a rental property this year. For the price of a two 'ok' hotel rooms, we received a house with a spacious first floor space with kitchen, living room and dining room, 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. For a rental, it had a lot of extras linens, kitchen with lots of cooking utensils and A/C and heat. The house is nicely decorated with art. Most importantly the owner takes incredible care of the property and is extremely attentive to any of your needs. Is it the Ritz Carlton, no. But for a rental property on the shore in this area, it is very good--- has all the amenities you need, great location and a very good amount of space and quality for the money. I am very happy with my stay.

Our family had a wonderful time at the property; it is so close to the beaches you can smell the ocean water nearby. We stayed for the Labor Day weekend and the property was clean, neat and beautifully decorated. We felt really comfortable and at home even though we were at the Jersey Shore. We had the best of both worlds; being able to go to several boardwalks and stay in and watch a movie together. On Labor Day we had all the supplies we needed at the house to be able to barbecue and have fun in the large backyard. And of course the massage chair and jacuzzi bath put a nice finish to the weekend!

Dirty & Cramped. Will Not Rent Again
Dirty & Cramped. Will Not Rent Again
My family rented this house for our 4th of July vacation. After looking at the pictures and reading the other reviews I was prepared to see that the house had some character, some nick-nacks and personal touches but I was not prepared for what we found. Every square inch is covered with...stuff. Half burnt candles everywhere, dried flowers, pictures on every square inch. It was dusty, dirty, stained and cluttered. The carpets were badly stained and that's probably why there were area rugs & runners on top of the carpet. Every shelf was filled with things, dusty things. The master bedroom's bath does not have shower (only a dated soaking tub) so there is really only one bathroom. With a house full I wish we had known that. There were valentines day nick-nacks, easter baskets, and other dated clutter everywhere. Not to mention a fruit fly (gross) trap upstairs in the master bath. I was not comfortable and my family will not be staying at this home again.

Owner response: During your stay no one contacted me to let me know there was a problem; the House Stay instructions clearly stated that the owner was to be contacted immediately if there were any problems at arrival or during the stay. I was not contacted until three weeks later and informed of any issues with the home, at which point there was little I could do to resolve the issues for your stay. Thank you very much for writing and explaining your review; it is appreciated. I apologize. Usually I drive five hours each way from my temporary home and personally inspect the property before transition and rental; Portland Road is where I live during most of the year and has been rented most of this summer. My daughter recently had our first grandchild and I was with her so I could not do the inspection for your stay. My cleaning crew leader of over two years did the turnover on a Sunday which is very unusual for us but we attempted to accommodate all guests as demand has been high. Part of the charm of the home is the eclectic arts and craft collection, I am sorry that you view it as clutter. The party immediately before you contacted me via text to tell me how clean and beautiful the home was during their arrival - however my cleaning crew leader did mention that when they left it was a lot of work in a short period of time to get the property ready for your stay and the company also charged an increased cleaning fee. I changed cleaning crew companies and I will not do any more same day turnovers as the cleaning crews really do need more time for an appropriate clean. I also have the carpets cleaned once every six months but this season has been unusually hard on the floors and walls due to high occupancy; we added an additional carpet cleaning. I put small rugs in heavily traffic areas to reduce the wear and tear on the carpets and hardwood floors. The photo of the master bedroom bath does include a skylight but does not include a shower. I can't tell you how distressing this review is because we do take pride in providing a cozy and comfortable environment for our guests. Again, I am sorry your vacation experience was uncomfortable and I do hope that you found some joy during your 4th of July vacation. We have enjoyed many 4th of July holidays in the area; for my family the house is not just rental property -- it is our home that we share with our valued guests. Sincerely, JoAnn
My family stayed at the vacation house for our summer vacation. The beach house is gorgeous; magnificently, and tastefully arranged. Each bedroom have it's own special style and decor. The jacuzzi is a special treat after touring, or being on the beach all day. The location of the house is literally minutes alway from the beach, as well as many restaurants, and or convenient stores. On the days we decided to stay in, we found the amenities to be wonderfully entertaining. The kitchen had all the utensiles and spices to cook your favorite meals. We enjoyed the ambiance of the back yard, while grilling hamburgers, and hot dogs (the garden is beautiful). We especially enjoyed looking at the awesome sunsets from the master bedroom's terrace. The hostess was very accomodating, helpful, and willing to please our requests. We are planning to return next summer.

Outstanding view and accommodations!
Outstanding view and accommodations!
My husband and I stayed at the beach house for our honeymoon in July. The home is beautifully decorated and furnished. The bed was comfortable and the Jacuzzi with scented candles made for a very romantic setting. The fireplace near the dining room made each meal a pleasant experience. The walk across the bridge to the beach/ocean was very easy and convenient. We really liked the view from the master bedroom terrace where on a clear night you could see NYC. Our favorite was the massage chair and large screen TV that made for relaxing evenings inside. The hostess was very pleasant and on time for our arrival and tour. We will be back!
