Le Cheyssignaguet is an old Périgordian manor estate, located in a delightful hill-top situation with extensive views over the countryside and the 35 hectares of private land. It enjoys privacy and tranquillity, whilst being very close to the medieval town of Sarlat (20 km) and five minutes from the small town of Montignac with it’s famous caves of Lascaux (15 000 BC) and all modern amenities.
Centrally located in the heart of the Périgord noir, it is ideal for visiting the numerous sites of interest, from the hundreds of châteaux, the prehistoric caves, the busy markets full of fresh local produce, medieval towns and pretty old villages.
Whether guests wish to meander down the winding rivers in canoes, cycle through the hills and forests, practice a wide range of sports or just relax by the pool, there is something for everyone.
Located in a region renowned for its sites of cultural interest and for its natural beauty we are confident that Le Cheyssingaguet will leave only the best of memories for all its guests!
’La Bastide.’ Upon arriving at La Bastide the entrance door is located opposite the private heated pool (five by 10 m) heated and shaded, gravel terrace surrounded by shrubs, flowers and large lawns for fun and games.
The front door leads directly into a large country kitchen - dining room with a large functional chimney, a large farmhouse dining table seating up to 12 persons, and the kitchen area. Again, the walls are of exposed stone, the ceilings show off the original beams and the floors are tiled, all in keeping with a traditional Perigordian property.
The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with all modern appliances, and also has the extra facility of a tumble dryer in a small utility room. The bedrooms at La Bastide are located in two wings; from one side of the kitchen a door leads to the left wing, with one large double room on the ground floor, an en-suite bathroom and a separate toilet. On the first floor are two further double bedrooms, sharing one bathroom and water closet.
To the right of the kitchen-dining room, is the large and bright living room, with three leather settees (sofas) gathered around another fully functional fire place, for enjoying a flambé on the cooler evenings out of season. There is a television area in the lounge with an additional settee, and a card table and chairs for playing games. At the far end of the living area, a door leads to one double room with it’s en-suite and separate water closet. An open feature staircase leads to the first floor and to the landing area, here, two more double bedrooms each enjoy an en-suite bathroom with shower, basin and a water closet. Most double bedrooms may be transformed into twin rooms. The beds are made up with two singles designed to be put together or separated.
They also have electric controls to lift the head and feet as desired for extra comfort or for reading in bed. Two televisions, one large screen downstairs, and one small television upstairs to be moved where appropriate.

Attractive, comfortable house in a lovely setting

My family together with another family (nine people total) rented this house for a week in the middle of July 2011. It is a very nicely restored Perigord style house that retains much of the original charm yet has 21st century comforts. The house is very spacious, comfortable, spotless and well equipped and maintained. Even with nine of us, everyone had ample space. The setting is on a large estate in the countryside. It's a few minute drive to a small bakery with good bread, and a few minutes farther to either of two small towns (La Chapelle Aubareil or Saint-Geniès) with more shopping and dining options. This was a good base for us to explore the Dordogne region, and we would highly recommend it to others who want to stay in this area. Highlights were visiting charming villages and towns (in particular, on the night of their outdoor markets in the summer evenings when you can buy an entire meal from a variety of local producers), La Roseraie restaurant in Montignac, canoeing, horseback riding and seeing a couple castles. Pierre was very knowledgeable and helpful. It's clear to us that he takes pride in having a very well-kept property and providing helpful information to his guests.

We spent two weeks in June at Le Bastide and were thoroughly charmed by the property, the area and Pierre and Martine who were most helpful in every way. The house is even better than the pictures and the heated pool was cleaned everyday. There are lovely walks to take on and around the property. We even picked wild strawberries for dessert. We were a party of three couples and two singles, so everyone had their own bedroom as well as bath and wc with a bedroom to spare. We grilled outside quite often and ate at the shaded table under the pergola. Everything was sparkling clean and well maintained with cleaning sevice included midweek. The property is located near the famous caves and well situated for shopping in Montignac where there are restaurants as well as food shopping. In Montignac we rented kayaks and paddled to the next village where we were picked up. We will definitely return and highly recommend Cheyssignaguet. There or four seperate houses, each with a swimming pool. The houses are situated around the expansive grounds so that they are private and have their own yard. We never saw the guests in the other accomodations. Pierre made dinner reservations for us at La Rosarie and it was wonderful. Don't miss it.
Owner response:we are very proud when we received this comment, we must give to our guest the best as we can, it's our better advise

We rented this property for a week for a group of four couples last May. The area, in the Dordogne countryside is stunning. You really are "in the countryside" when you stay here, it's peaceful and pastoral. But also, you are very close to many charming towns and sights like Montignac, Sarlat, St. Genies, St. Amand de Coly, the Lascaux caves and a plethora of castles, gardens and boating opportunities. The house is a beautifully restored manor, well-decorated, immaculate and utterly charming. Plus, Pierre and Martine were helpful in every way. The kitchen was well equipped and we prepared many good dinners with products from the local markets, as well as sampling wonderful restaurants nearby. Within walking distance was a bakery where we could buy fresh-baked bread daily (the great French bread...not like what we have at home!) We even had an excellent cooking class with Jim and Lucy Fisher at the nearby Cook in France cooking school. We have only good things to say about our stay in the Dordogne and this property. A week was not enough to enjoy the whole area. We will definitely return.

We had an excellent stay in La Bastide in August / September 2009. The listing on VRBO was accurate and the location reasonably easy to find (although would have been easier if we had arrived in daylight!). The photos don't really do the property justice as it is extremely well appointed and finished to a high standard with all the kitchen and laundry equipment that you could need. It really made our large family get together easy. Pierre and Martine we on hand to help with any problems we had, and for local information. Martines home made Fig jam was thoroughly enjoyed. All of us would love to return. La Perigord is a beautiful spot - the town of Montignac is easy to reach by car and has supermarkets, restaurants, a lovely market and things to do like canoeing. The food market down by the river on Monday night is a good place for an informal meal and drink. Sarlat is an easy drive with all its attractions and particularly the large market. The children enjoyed the caves at Lascaux 2 which are extremely nearby and we had a great family day out canoeing. Thanks for a lovely holiday!
