Welcome to our family cottage on Elk Lake, part of the chain of lakes famous for their caribbean aqua blue-green hues. Our ranch style home is located on a 1+ acre lot with 100' of lakefront on a quiet deadend street. The entrance to our property is wooded with a winding drive, giving you that 'up north' feel. The back yard is large and grassy, perfect for lawn games and bonfires. The lawn gently slopes to the lake.
Walk right into the water or enter from the dock ladder. The water is crystal clear and the bottom is sandy (about 10 ft from shore - smooth rocks out to that point). Elk lake is an all sports lake and boat and jet ski rentals are available from local marinas. Bringing your boat? Launch it just down the road, or at one of the local marinas, and store it in our boat lift (up to 3600lbs) for quick access during your stay.
Our home has a screened in porch with a lake view and a patio with a woods view. There is a full kitchen and an extra refrigerator for beverages in the attached 2 car garage. The large living room offers views of the lake and plenty of seating. The master suite includes a bath, king size bed and private door to a small deck. The 2nd bedroom offers 2 twin beds and the 3rd has a queen with pocket door access to the main bath. Linens and washer/dryer are included.
There are tables and chairs on the master suite deck and front patio, as well as a picnic table and chairs for relaxing in the back yard. Roast marshmallows by the lake while taking in a beautiful sunset.
Head to downtown Elk Rapids by car or boat to explore and enjoy the local fare. There are many unique galleries, shops and restaurants. Play a game of golf on one of northern Michigan's finest courses or vist a local orchard or winery. And don't forget the fabulous fall color!

Elk Lake Cottage
Elk Lake Cottage
Great place for a summer vacation. Boating and fishing was great, beautiful lake. Went golfing a few miles away in traverse city. Plenty of good places to eat very close in Elk Rapids. Perfect for a family vacation. Would rent again. Very clean and well maintained.

Great location right on the lake way back off the road. Very neat and clean. Just the right amount of trees for shading but still plenty of sun for sunbathing. We had such a great time sitting out in the yard watching the boats and swimmers and enjoying the BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS and of course s'mores by the bonfire. It has a large screened-in porch off the back yard which came in handy one night when it rained... we were still able to play cards with friends and enjoy the lake view. The Vasa Trails are only about 15 minutes away, which has 26 miles of hiking, mountain-biking and running trails. Championship golf courses and shopping in nearby Traverse City. There are several family-owned type restaurants right in Elk Rapids if you don't want to cook at the cottage. We stayed over the week of 4th of July but would love to visit in the winter (the house has a beautiful fireplace.) We took our kids and their spouses and grandkids and had plenty of room. We loved that they include a washer/dryer! We will definitely visit again!

Owner response: The privacy, lake views and proximity to great outdoor activities you touched on were all reasons we chose this property. We're glad your family enjoyed your summer stay!
My long weekend was the highlight of the summer. Elk Lake is picture perfect, The aqua colored water is great for swimming and boating. I spent my mornings drinking coffee on the dock, just looking at the water, watching the ducks, and enjoying the serenity. I spent a day traveling to Charlevoix, golfing at a fantastic local course, and stopping at road stands to buy cherries along the way. Spent another day in Elk Rapids eating pizza, walking around the marina, sunbathing and swimming at one of two beaches (which also have playground equipment) and shopping at the cute shops. We spend time around the fire pit eating smores. The cottage is very clean and private. The three bedrooms were perfect for my family. Kids could even camp in the tent right in front of the water.

About the owner: Our family lived in the area for few years during the 1970's. In that short time this area of the state captured our hearts and imaginations and continues to draw us back.
Why the Owner Chose Elk Rapids:
From sugar sand beaches, beautiful fall foliage and famous festivals such as the National Cherry Festival, this area has something for everyone. The crystal clear aqua water in the chain of lakes, including Elk Lake, rivals the Caribbean - this area is a boater's paradise. Thanks to the glacier carved bluffs this is also a golfer's paradise. Some of the most challenging and breath taking courses are minutes from our cottage.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
