Relax on the stone terrace of this lovely 1761 central chimney Cape and see the Sheepscot River Valley as it has been for over two hundred years. With its rolling, forested hills and a tidal river, the historic valley has supplied past generations of indu strious people with livelihoods. There is an uncommon peace in this unspoiled place, nestled between whispering pines and a gently sloping field, where deer, hawks, and turkeys can be seen.
You can take advantage of the large country kitchen to prepare your meals, or eat in one of the many fine restaurants in the area. Hiking from the house through the woods in any direction will bring endless adventure, or you may like to spend the day at one of several public beaches (ocean, as well as fresh water). Canoe or kayak on the nearby lakes and rivers, and especially on the pristine Sheepscot River where you can watch the eagles fly from bend to bend.
"Juniper Hill" (its name since 1958) is very much an out of the way place, but is within short driving d istances to several towns and shopping areas. It is equidistant from Damariscotta and Wiscasset, with many tourist hotspots (such as Pemaquid Point and Boothbay Harbor) nearby, as well. It has all the conveniences without the hustle and bustle. |
