About the owner: We're a family of five who bought Folly Beach Escape in 2010 as a beach get-away and landing spot for visits to Charleston. Amy Anne is a native South Carolinian who's lived in both Charleston and the Columbia area, and we were were married in Charleston in 2005. We head to Charleston and the barrier islands several times a year, especially in the fall and spring, to visit family and friends, eat some good Charleston food, and bask in the glory of the SC coast.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes: When we were looking for a house, we wanted to have our cake and eat it too: the beauty of the marsh and tidal creeks, and easy access to the ocean and beach; a private, secluded location, but also an easy drive to downtown Charleston; and a place where we could stay in and cook up some blue crabs or redfish and have a quiet, relaxing dinner out on the deck one night, and head into town for some drinks and nightlife the next. This house and Folly Beach offered all that and more, and we couldn't pass it up.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Folly Beach Escape offers the kind of experience that can only be had at the tidal creek/marsh side of the northeast end of the island: marsh/river/harbor views one side, and the ocean on the other. Do not miss the sunsets from the back deck, screened porch, or dock - they are like nothing else. Put the crab traps in (they're hanging up in the laundry room) with some bait from Crosby's and get yourself some fresh blue crabs for crab cakes. Read a book on the deck and listen to the waves. Or put some John Coltrane on the outdoor speakers and open up a bottle of wine. Be sure to turn left out of the driveway and head to the end of the road. The park at the end of the island is beautiful and very secluded, and the best place to photograph the lighthouse. Folly Beach, unlike some of the other barrier islands, is a place, like the extended motto of it's 24/7/364 market (Bert's), that's really meant for everyone: young, old, hipsters, hippies, surfers, conservatives, liberals, fat, thin, black, white - come as you are - there's something for everyone and everyone is welcome.
