Our house is located on Poker Cove in Blue Hill Harbor. The entrance to the house is thru a beautiful, cottage style perennial garden, with cedar stick fence and arbors. The house sits a mere 35' from the water. A 12' wide deck runs along the entire waterside of the house. The deck is furnished with 2 Adirondack chairs, table, chairs and hammock. Adjacent to us, on the cove, is a small boatyard where sailboats and lobster boats are occasionally launched.
The main floor of the house has an open floor plan with 2 large picture windows looking out onto the cove. There is a large kitchen that is fully equipped and has a gas range.
All bedrooms are on the second floor and have views of the water. The master bedroom (15' x 19') has french doors leading out onto a covered porch with rocking chairs. The other 2 bedrooms are of equal size (12' x 12'). One has a full size bed, the other a trundle (2 twins). There is a 1/2 bath on the first floor and a 3/4 bath on the second floor.

Blue Hill is a charming coastal village, complete with art galleries, boutiques, bookstore, library, several restaurants, an extensive Hannafords grocery store, wine shop and the Blue Hill Food Coop. We are lucky to have such a variety of farm fresh food available at the numerous farmers markets and in local stores. The Blue Hill Heritage Trust has 12 hiking trails on the peninsula, 2 of which are within walking distance from the house. There is also a bicycle rental shop and kayak/canoe rental shop in town and a waterfront town park with a playground. 3 miles down the road, in East Blue Hill, is a swimming beach called Curtis Cove. It's a 15 minute drive to Brooklyn, where you can visit numerous boat building shops and The Wooden Boat School. Naskeag Point has a beautiful beach and picnic area. A 30 minute drive will bring you to the picturesque fishing village of Stonington, where you can catch a ferry to Isle Au Haut to wander thru this quaint village and visit Black Dinah Chocolatiers Cafe. Then an hour away is Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park with extensive hiking and biking on the carriage trails, shopping and restaurants. ...morecollapse

I stayed at this property for a "girls getaway" (five of us) in July. From my bedroom windows I could see not only the cove but also the incredibly sweet garden. The house was extremely comfortable, clean and cozy and I especially loved the eclectic and artistic/crafty touches everywhere in the house and garden. The deck is a beautiful and tranquil place to sit and enjoy the quiet cove. The photographers in the group got some treasured photos of the cove and the surrounding areas that were real "keepers". We also loved being able to walk to town for a bottle of wine, an ice cream, or some "boutiquey" window shopping. The area is amazing and we only began to scratch the surface. We hiked Blue Hill (would love to come back and do that later in the summer when it is laden with blueberries), kayaked, swam and checked out restaurants and shops and the farmer's market. Most of our time was spent kayaking. As intermediate kayakers, we enjoyed kayaking through the islands off of Stonington, which is about a half hour drive from the house. We also did some shorter paddles right from the house which was wonderful. Kayaking around the harbor provides great sight seeing of boats and waterfront properties. And we loved seeing the harbor seals up close from our kayaks! Kayaking or canoeing right from the house would be comfortable even for beginners as the water is shallow and quiet in the cove. We did not bring our dogs, but this would be a very comfortable place to stay with a dog. There are great places close by to walk and swim with your pooch. Also, we didn't bring bikes, but it would be fun to bring or rent bikes here. The owners clearly care about their property and their guests. Our expectations for our stay were far exceeded, thanks to their excellent communications and assistance. They went out of their way to answer our questions and help us with our kayaking plans. I will definitely come here again!
