Great House Overlooking the Sacramento River and Private Dock
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes

This newly renovated home is located on Long Island just off of Grand Island in the Sacramento River Delta. There are 3 queen bedrooms and 2 baths on two levels overlooking the river. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa for overflow for total sleeping space for 8. For the warm summer, an outdoor shower is privately located just under the main deck. Well behaved family pets are welcome, although the yard is not fenced. TV, satellite and wi-fi are available along with hundreds of VHS tapes and DVDs. The house has private docks both on the river and in back on the slough (or the dredge cut as it's known), so boat in or put the boat in the water at one of several nearby launch ramps. Fish off the docks or relax on the covered deck while watching the local skiers and fishermen work the water out front. Wood fire pit and comfortable outdoor furniture allows our guests to fully enjoy the weather at any time of year. There is an office set up in the lower bedroom, just in case you need to keep in touch while you're away.

Our stay at this beautiful home last weekend was fantastic. We were so impressed that we did not want to go home. The house is exceedingly clean while filled with paintings, beautiful furniture, and delightful decorations. The location is great – isolated, yet close enough to Isleton and Walnut Grove if you happen to need anything. Its central location to the Bay, Sacramento, and other Delta destinations make it the essence of great locations. Availability to fishing, boating, skiing, canoeing, and sun bathing do not get much better. The beds were very comfortable - the master bedroom is gorgeous and very relaxing. The abundance of natural light made our amazing days longer and more peaceful. Although it was just the two of us, we could not help but note that larger groups (including families with children) would have plenty of space. It works perfectly as a romantic get away for two or a large group trip. The heated floors in each of the bathrooms continued to make us feel like royalty each time we stepped foot on them. We enjoyed six meals outside on the well-furnished deck and finished each evening back on the deck soaking up the beautiful views, the Delta Breeze, and the sounds of nature. The kitchen was very well stocked, there were even coffee beans! We made two, three course meals without a hiccup. Internet access and iHomes throughout the house were very convenient. The owners are exceedingly accommodating. They made time to meet us at the house, going over details to ensure our comfort. They have thought of everything - extra linens, laundry detergent, cleaning items, cooking/bake ware, and grill tools. We have rented vacation properties at Lake Tulloch (CA), Breckenridge (CO), Cayucos (CA), Palm Springs (CA), Sonoma (CA), Lake McConaughy (NE), and Lake Okoboji (IA)…none of those compare to this experience. The simplicity of this home highlights the customization and attention to detail of every surface, making it the most unique home we have ever been in, much less rented. The grounds have been cared for with the same attention to detail as the home itself…immaculate, inviting, and beyond expectations. Overall it was a terrific experience. We will stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. This is what relaxing is meant to be...if I could give it 10 stars, I would.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay at the river house was a very relaxing and refreshing experience. We we're looking to getaway from the business of our everyday lives and take some time to relax and refocus our craft; music. The house opened itself up for us to be inspired with its beautiful view of the river and relaxed mood. We we're able to enjoy the various amenities the home has and just have a good time with one another. The property owner was readily available to answer any questions or concerns we had about the house. The bathrooms were great and hot water was not a problem. The living room area was my favorite because of all the natural light it allows in and the spectacular view of the river. We enjoyed our time here very much and hope to make it back in the near future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: We bought this house as a fishing shack and to have a berth for our 32' Erickson sailboat and have remodeled extensively in the years since. In fact, we lived in this house while reworking the house next door --where we live today. We are boaters who enjoy all the Delta has to offer and this house puts you so close to the water, you'll never want to leave. At least that was our story and why we moved from Sacramento. We are also active private pilots and involved in Sacramento real estate.
Why the Owner Chose Walnut Grove:
Life is just better on the water --and you can't get any closer than this. The view, the immediate access to the water activities we enjoyed were why we chose this place to call home. If you don't do anything but sit and enjoy the view of the river, you'll be entertained by the water skiers and island is qient and charming with really nice neighbors. This kitchen in this house is a dream and stocked well with good quality appliances, dishes and cookware. If you're looking to cook up a few fancy meals while you're with us and wonder about specific items, just ask and we'll see what we can do to accommodate. We always stock the basics but include coffee, tea, spices, foil and plastic wrap as well. There is usually something edible in the yard --the Delta is known for it's lush abundance, and this property is no exception. We encourage our guests to take advantage of what we grow which will obviously change with the seasons.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Being on the water with your own dock means that you can take a quick water ski run, or fish a little then relax a while only to do it again without the hassle of taking the boat in and out of the water. The Delta is beautiful and this location is convenient to the Grand Island Mansion and the Ryde Hotel, both wonderful wedding venues. Isleton is about two miles and Walnut Grove about 10 miles. Delta fishing is awesome and this is great water for skiing -- right out front. From either of the two decks overlooking the water, the line between inside and out is deliberately blurred so you're encouraged to spend the days with the doors wide open to the great Delta weather. For cooler months, there is a cozy gas fireplace and heated floors to make things comfortable.
