A most wonderful place to stay.

Date of Stay: 02/25/11 Review Submitted: 11/12/11

My wife and I and our traveling companions loved our stay at Hale E Komo Mai. We felt like we were living in the "real" Hawaii. The street life below included a very pleasant mix of locals and visitors and was very enjoyable to observe and to be accepted into. The park next door was the scene of many local family evening picnics that included music and Friday night volleyball games. From the top deck we had a clear view of the activity in the bay including the spinner dolphin "Olympics". Surely they must be competing for style and execution points with all that spinning and leaping activity. While at the house we never missed an evening sunset and when Pele's volcano was active there were some very colorful evening skies. The outdoor kitchen was one of our favorite features. It was very comfortable and relaxing to prepare and eat food in the warm open-air rear deck with a great view of the lush tropical landscape. During our two-week stay we traveled around the island to many of the great places it has to offer but we also made sure to have several "home" days where we simply relaxed and enjoyed the house and life in this small village. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with the owners and we do plan to return to Hale E Komo Mai.

Unique & unforgettable

We stayed upstairs in "Loke Lani" with another couple for 2 weeks in Feb. & March of 2011. The location was excellent, in a real neighborhood with the bay a short walk away.... in which we swam with the dolphins. Snorkeling was excellent off nearby Manini Beach and at Honaunau, a short drive away, and kayaks can be rented across the street. It is a character place, very narrow, but with wrap around decks and a large deck on the end. The communal 3rd floor lanai has a great view of the bay and sunsets. The owners were very accommodating. Our unit has an outdoor kitchen in the back, which we much enjoyed, though we ended up buying a few items from the thrift shop up the hill to round out the dishware. We would recommend "The White Ship" as we called it, highly and plan to return.

Such a beautiful house - going back this winter!!

Guest: JP (Wilderville, OR)
Date of Stay: 02/07/07 Review Submitted: 09/06/11

We had such a lovely time in Kona, have stayed at a couple of different places, but this house is where we'll stay from now on - it's just beautiful!! It looks out over the bay, and is on an off the beaten path road, that is perfect for walks near the water before the sun goes down. If you're not familiar with Hawaii, everything slows to a stop when the sun drops off into the ocean.. everyone pauses for a minute to watch it.. I know the owners rent different floors when they're not there, (Hi Arlen and Sylvia!) we had the 2nd floor along with the top floor that has a just beautiful view! We went kayaking in the bay, saw dolphins swimming all around us, we did a ton of snorkeling, and got to enjoy the peaceful vacation we always wanted. (And Arlen helped me crack open a fresh coconut I found on the road!) BONUS The outdoor kitchen is perfect and there is a nice little yard. The house is clean and tidy, you can see by the photos, actually designed and built by the owner! If you've never been to Kona, this vacation rental is not too far out of town, and has personality to boot! My husband and I loved staying here and I hope your vacation turns out just as great! What a great place for a vacation away! I stayed here a while back and enjoyed my time so much I will be going back for Christmas! The roof top balcony is exceptional; it offers fantastic picturesque views of the water. Great for those that love the outdoors, this house embraces the beautiful outdoor elements. Enjoy, relax and let your worries slip away at this great, peaceful location. This Island is not a tourist trap, so enjoy real life Hawaii. Definitely scout out some macadamia nut pie! Yum Yum! This house is great and as described.
