Sandpiper Cottage- wonderful getaway!

Guest: Trudy B.
Date of Stay: 04/14/12 Review Submitted: 04/29/12

This was our first visit to St George's Island.....the Sandpiper Cottage had absolutely everything we needed for our vacation with our golden retrievers. Although the furniture was somewhat worn, it was comfortable and clean. The enclosed deck was great for letting the dogs out while we were on the deck, the pool was great (nice and clean) and the kitchen was very well stocked. The location was great...right across the road from the boardwalk to the beach. The bathrooms had everything you needed but were very small. It was very nice to have everything on one level. We loved the restaurants in Apalachicola...Carolines, The Hole in the Wall and the Owl's Nest were GREAT.

Fun Things to Do

Date of Stay: 01/20/12 Review Submitted: 01/22/12

Great times at Sandpiper Cottage! It worked out great to have our now - mobile one-year-old with s, and feeling safe with him here on one level. Weather was great for January-60s and 70s everyday. Make sure to check out Wakulla Springs State Park-awesome boat ride(we did it twice!) to see lots of birds, manatees, & alligators. Great time. Apalachicola is fun, friendly, and charming-everyone here on SGI was so nice too. Thanks for a wonderful place to stay and play! Heidi, Peter, & Jasper

1st time staying at Sandpiper Cottage

Guest: Aimee and Family & pets Atlanta GA
Date of Stay: 10/30/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

Our second time staying on SGI but 1st time staying at Sandpiper Cottage. We really like it here. Having our own pool was a 1st for us. Loved the deck and gates for our dogs to be able to be outside. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back, we especially enjoyed not having a huge home in front or on either side of us. We loved the town(Apachicola) being so close. Tamara's Cafe, The Seafood Grill, The Owl Cafe are the best restaurants. PS The Old Florida Cottage style(cinder blocks) are fantastic we wish our home in Atlanta was of these! No kidding!

Everything About this Place Brings Us Back

Guest: Randy & Lynn Lawrenceville, GA
Date of Stay: 08/28/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

As this is our 8th trip to SGI, again, Sandpiper does not disappoint. Always welciming us to our beach home, everything about this place brings us back. Weather was great for 7 days, with one bad morning of rain...allowing us to find other things to do. Thanks for keeping Sandpiper above standard and allowing us an annual respite from the hectic pace of Atlanta. Going to reserve our 2012 soon!

Definitely The Place to come for R & R

Guest: Pat and Pam Greer S.C.
Date of Stay: 08/22/11 Review Submitted: 11/10/11

This was our first trip to Sandpiper Cottage and we will definitely be back! We love the cottage, it is perfect. The furnishings, landscaping and the pool-all awesome. This is definitely the place to come for R & R. the weather was perfect and the beaches uncrowded. We brought our two small dogs, Becks and Molly. Thank you for allowing dogs. It is difficult to find a nice place that has everything like Sandpiper Cottage, that is likewise, dog friendly. I also enjoyed the well stocked kitchen. No complaints from us! We are trying to figure out how to take the pool home with us, and are already planning our trip for next year. Thank You,

It was Hot and Sunny

Guest: Jan and Marty Oakwood IL.
Date of Stay: 08/07/11 Review Submitted: 09/02/11

Another wonderful 3 weeks in Sandpiper Cottage at SGI! The weather cooperated great, it was hot and sunny. We had a different group each week. First our son and his family were here. The grandkids loved it. Then my niece and her friend came second. Finally a couple from back home made their 1st trip here. They'll be back. Jelly fish were a little bit of a problem some days, but we were careful. As always, it's so hard to leave, even the dogs are sad! But we'll be back again. Thanks for sharing this great house. See you next year, Jan & Marty

This was my sixth trip to SGI, but my fifth stay at Sandpiper. My trip to SGI would never be the same anywhere else. When we turn that corner I always feel like home away from home. The sun, ocean ,crabs,Harry A's, shooting stars and even storms wouldn't be as special without Sandpiper Cottage to call home! Thanks for sharing! See you next year!

Ocean view?

Guest: lovesthedolphins (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/27/11

There is no ocean view from this house and it should not be advertised as such. All windows in the family room have an ocean view? Nope, they do not. It is obscured by the dunes across the street. You would have to stand on the roof of this house for an ocean view. That being said, it is an easy walk to the beach, but it is a public access and on the weekend, there are cars parked all around the house. The house was very comfortable, clean and nicely furnished. the kitchen was indeed, well stocked. The pool was nice, but shallow. It should have a "No Diving" sign. We had a great time because we love St. George Island so much! We will be back, but not to this house. We love being able to see the ocean.

Owner response:Thank you so much for your review. You are so right, the dunes have grown higher since 2005 when I listed our property on vrbo. I will update our website accordingly. We have had a nice view up until the last couple of years. Dennis came through in 2005 and most of the dunes were washed onto our property-you could stand in the kitchen and see the fishing boats-however, thankful that mother nature has rebuilt those dunes and in the process we have lost our ocean view. Sandpiper Cottage is considered a 1st tier property, and we have easy access to the beach. Thank you again for your feedback and thank you for staying with us. We also have a home, Little Palm, which is also a 1st tier, 3/2 home with pool-it may be more to your liking-1049 E. Gorrie Drive take a look, it has a beautiful view. www.vrbo.com/323977 Lynn and David Johnson

Nice Pool

Guest: S Kay (Roanoke, IL)
Date of Stay: 03/26/11 Review Submitted: 04/07/11

The pool is very nice. It is convenient to not climb stairs, but the trade off is a lack of beach view. On a clear day you can see a glimpse of the ocean from the front deck. The landscaping is quite nice around the house & pool area. Bathrooms are small, but sufficient. The outside door on the sun porch did not lock & blew open a couple times, so that could not be used as a sleeping room, but we didn't need it. There weren't any beach chairs or air pump, but that wasn't a big deal. The unit was clean & nicely decorated. I would recommend this place to someone needing a two bedroom or smaller unit, especially if they have a pet. We did not have a pet, but this unit would accommodate one nicely.

Magical Oasis on St. George

Guest: Claudia (Barnesville, GA, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 11/01/10

The owners of the Sandpiper Cottage have created a truly unique little paradise. The property's landscaping is rare for the island, creating a private retreat, whether you're relaxing in the lovely pool or enjoying the sunporch. If your prerequisites do not include "beachfront," the Sandpiper is the perfect choice. The cottage was clean and thoughtfully appointed. Since we love to cook the local seafood ourselves, we especially enjoyed the nicely equipped and convenient kitchen. The beach is a boardwalk away, and the nearby biking path provided a convenient way to walk my dog. We so appreciated the pet-friendliness of both the Sandpiper and St. George Island!

Great Location

Guest: Nashvillians (Nashville TN)
Date of Stay: 12/26/09 Review Submitted: 01/11/10

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sandpiper. It's very comfortable, very nicely decorated and about a minutes walk to the beach, where we went everyday to watch the spectacular sunsets. It's also very close to a great little oyster bar we discovered, Eddy Teach's Raw Bar, where we went several times during our stay. The locals were friendly and the oysters were great! The lighthouse can be seen from the yard, and this place really has a yard, not like most houses on the island. It's not large, but it's landscaping is among the best on the island, if not THE best. If you want to really relax, the Sandpiper and the island in general are the place to be. We'll be back, and soon.

Great Honeymoon Get Away

Guest: Phouse (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 10/11/09 Review Submitted: 11/13/09

We had a great time at Sandpiper Cottage! It was wonderful to be able to bring our dogs along with us. We really enjoyed the short walk to the beach and the closest stretch of the beach was generally empty so it was like we had it to our self. It was great to have a well stocked kitchen and the fish carts just down the road! We really enjoyed all of the fresh seafood we were able to eat. Having the pool was great. We were able to go swimming and still be able to keep an eye on the dogs and were never to far away from the fridge. The best restaurant we found was the Seafood Grille in Apalachacola. The food was inexpensive and great. We also made a trip to Boss Oyster and enjoyed it very much!

We had another wonderful stay at Sandpiper Cottage on SGI, 3 weeks is so relaxing. it was fun climbing up inside the lighthouse, great views. Both of our dogs love it here! Our older one(13 yrs) probably won't be down again, but he made the most of his time here. The weather was wonderful and we had very little rain. We meet so many interesting people (& dogs) at the beach some aren't far from where we live. Looking forward t another great time next year, Marty & Jan McFarland Alex and Skylar

Thank you for all for a wonderful week stayat your wonderful Sandpiper Cottage. This was our 2nd stay at Sandpiper and we so enjoyed our stay. We really enjoyed the outside shower addition this time. We were lucky to have Sunny, hot weather the entrie week. We did have 1 strong storm one evening and it was sort of exciting. We enjoyed a visit up the Lighthouse, fishing on the bay, the state park, the Orman House and the Veterans Exhibit in downtown Apalachicola and Eastpoint. We had nice meals at The Blue Parrot, BJs, The Hut, Boss Oyster, and El Jalisco. We purchased fantastic meats at the Island Market place, Loved the Smoked Tuna dip and awesome steaks and Boars Head meats and cheeses. We adore peaceful St George Island and the surronding areas. We are so very thankful to spend this week here making lasting family memories. thank you for sharing your beautiful home with our family a second time. We are looking forward to our next visit. We have stayed at Sandpiper Cottage on several occasions. This is one of the best vacation spots we have discovered and Sandpiper provides a great place to relax and unwind. The house is wonderfully decorated and we love the open kitchen. I love cooking and everything a chef could need is provided in the kitchen. The pool and porch are a great place to spend time with the family too. We already booked for this year and will be back annually.

We took 2 teens and 1 small jack russell. Couldn't have asked for a better place. Kitchen is open to the living area for great entertaining and family time! The porch/deck that is completely enclosed w/ fencing that my wannabe runaway pet would love to escape but couldn't. It made our vacation easy and relaxing. Being straight away from the ocean gave us wonderful relaxing sounds in the evening. Ours was a last minute vacation request and the owners were extremely accomodating! It was so very much appreciated. We will return to Sandpiper Cottage. Thank you.

Sandpiper Cottage -- Best on St George

Guest: Piper Phans (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 09/08/08 Review Submitted: 04/09/09

We have stayed at Sandpiper Cottage probably 6-7 times over the last few years. It is the only beach house will use when visiting SGI. The house comfortably accommodates groups of any size (from 2 to *). The house is nicely decorated and provides a restful place for a lazy beach vacation. All the accommodations are up to date and modern, yet it still has the feel of a welcoming beach home. The owners are very involved in maintaing this top notch property. Beach access is perfect --- do not stay anywhere else when visiting SGI. We are regulars and look forward to our trip each year.

We had a great time on St. George Island and at Sandpiper Cottage. Our first time here will bring us back for lifetime. Although we were faced with the potential of hurricane Ike upon arrival we managed to have great weather. We survived some strong winds and a lot of sun at the pool & beach for an awesome time-we even got engaged on the beach and may be back for our wedding. We had great food at the Owl Cafe, Harry A's, Blue Parrot, BJ's, Eddy Teach's, for the Oysters. The landscaping and cottage decor made us feel at home all week. The state park was great for collecting shells and the island bike path was perfect for navigating the island. We parked the car and lived the "Simple Life" for a week. The beach walks were so peaceful-even for our Jack Russell, Jackie. We had such a good time it hard to pack up and leave. We will be back and we can only hope that our next stay is a marvelous as our first! The Triple J's - Julie, Jeff, and Jackie St Louis MO

We had so much fun. This was Danielle and Lindsay's first time to St. George Island, and we will definitely be back. Having a pool in the back yard and the beach across the street made everything seem unreal-I can't imagine a better vacation spot. Everone on the entire island was so friendly. We fell in love with it all, especially Aunt Ebby's ice cream. "Sex on the Beaches" will never taste so good as they did at the Blue Parrot. This place felt like home immediately! It was almost painful to leave. To the next visitor-If we randomly show up at the front door, don't be surprised! See you Soon! Brittany, Danielle, and Lindsay Chicago IL.

Charming Cottage Experience

Guest: Bart N (Cleveland, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/13/08 Review Submitted: 04/09/09

It was love at first sight! We were tired of the 'plastic' condo vacations and were looking for something cozy and comfortable. Lynn and David has provided such a wonderfully relaxing cottage and gave it a bit of a playful atmosphere of peach colored siding, butterfly bushes, pool (woot!), and even a whimsical beach hat collection. Our grandson loved being able to bring the dog along and still talks about our time there, that's priceless. Shortly after we returned home we booked it for the next years trip. This is one of those special places you make memories of with your family and fill up the scrapbook with the pictures, year after year.

Owner response:Sandpiper has such a history in itself, and the guests who return year after year are now part of that story.

The Sandpiper has been our summer destination for three years! We love the privacy, great pool, and we get to bring our dogs. That's the reason we chose St. George Island in the first place....then we found the Sandpiper and we were hooked. The location is right across the street from the beach and you can see the ocean from poolside. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else on the island. It has a great kitchen and we love to grill our daily "catch" that we get from doug's truck....right outside on the private deck. Coffe in the morning on the beach with no people is our idea of heaven. You will love the Sandpiper and the whole St. George experience! Have fun, Mary :)

This was our first trip to SGI and we stayed at Sandpiper Cottage. It's peach color caught our eye and we decided to rent it. We really didn't know what to expect, but WOW! When we opened the door, it looked like a designer home. A perfect place to stay for the family of four. The kids LOVED the pool, not to mention the walk just across the street to the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook almost all week, but don't forget to stop by the Blue Parrot and BJ's for a meal every now and then. There was a small grocery store with fresh food on the island where we purchased most of our food for at-home meals. Yummy! And we had dinner on the porch, to enjoy the breeze each night. I would recommend this house for a winter month, summer week, or fall weekend trip! Any time of the year is great on SGI if you are staying at Sandpiper Cottage. Lynn and David, as well as Resort Vacation Properties made this stay relaxing and stress-free! We look forward to returning next year.

Hello! year 3 at Sandpiper Cottage:-) We hardly knew the place upon arrival! Lovely new colors everywhere-we love it even more. It is such a treat to be totally relaxed in what we now feel is our home, too. You guys truly have the most beautifully landscaped cottage on the island(The guys loved the new T.V.) We had wonderful meals of grilled fish and fresh vegetables and only ate out once at the Blue Parrot. Our morning beach walks with coffee were very therapudic. Scrabble was a big hit once again as were lots of great tunes and the pool. We loved the last of May's cooler temps and plan on a return visit next year. Thank You for the cool note cards and our lovely stay. The Lassiters and The Pickens

We have enjoyed another week in your lovely cottage and seeing the island again. We shopped, walked on the beach, slept late, and stayed up late talking about all the fun we had and how much we enjoy coming here. We had a happy, peaceful week and hope to come back next year. Thanks again for another wonderful week at the cottage, Mildred Sexton and Daughters-Deborah Willis, Anita Ward, Karen Thornsberry

We had a great time staying a Sandpiper Cottage. Your home is lovely and so comfortable. The weather was great this year. It is hard to return home to Indiana and the snowey, icy weather. This was my sister's first visit to Florida, she loved it here. She also loved sitting on your lovely deck as Joe and I did. 2009 we will be going to Mexico Beach and hope to return to St George in 2010. It was nice talking to you on the telephone Lynn.
