Located at Pepeekeo, we found the studio to be very nicely arranged, clean and pleasant - the ocean breeze coming in the open windows, the property is peaceful and serene, with a few farm animals nearby. Being up on a hill, the view is lovely. We had all the kitchen utensils needed to cook our own meals, which we ate on the spacious lanai. Bathroom is small but adequate, nice shower. It was just what we wanted to come home to after sightseeing every day. Cindy is always available and helpful. Good location to go up and down the coast and to Hilo. Botanical gardens are just across the main road. The Hilo farmers market is a good place to buy fresh vegetables, fruit. We liked swimming at Coconut Island in Hilo and further south. Also, there's a spectacular surfers beach off route 19 on the way to Hilo, worth watching the surfers. Going north on 19, we saw Akaka Falls and Umauma Falls, Kolekole Beach Park and there's a small train museum along the way. We also visited Mauna Loa at Volcanoes National Park, a good day trip. When we left, we took Saddle Road (200) over to Kona, an interesting drive. I recommend this as a convenient, pleasant, and affordable place to stay to see the eastern coast of the island, the national park. The listing description was accurate.

Our stay was perfect! Cindy was wonderful and responsive to any questions I had. The property is clean, well maintained, and tranquil. Photos and description were accurate. And as for the night sky over this section of town .. incredible! I don't recall the last time I saw so many stars. I would highly recommend this property.

Owner response: So nice to have you both! Hope you can come back again.
The studio apartment with ocean views was just what we wanted and needed for a week's stay just outside of Hilo. For two people, the accommodations were very comfortable, well appointed and CLEAN. Although, as a studio, it is basically a one room unit, the large lanai really extends the space. Really nice.

Such a Blessing
Such a Blessing
After a long search to find a room for the week of the Merrie Monarch Festival, I was blessed to find this perfect studio just minutes away from Hilo. A safe, quiet neighborhood, and wonderful morning sunrises. Cynthia, the owner was such a delight. With her warm reception and fresh fruit from her property, I was welcomed like an old friend coming to visit. The house sits on a beautiful piece of land, with cows and goats in the distance, it was a sweet sight in the mornings and evenings as they played in the neighbor's pastures. My experience was perfection. I recommend this house for individuals traveling alone or those couples wanting a quiet get away...but not too far away. I had all the amenities of home but all the beauty of paradise. Although I only used the microwave, I could have easily used the stove to cook a meal. The kitchen was equipt with pots/pans, dishes/flatware and glasses-including wine glasses. The house was clean as a pin and the bed was so comfy! I slept with the windows open with the evening breezes coming in, it didn't get any better! I loved the carport because in Hilo, you are bound to see some rain...but I managed to stay dry as I came and went. Mahalo, Cynthia, for such a treasured experience. I hope to return in the future and visit your island home again!

Wonderful week at the Pepeekeo studio apartment.
Wonderful week at the Pepeekeo studio apartment.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and the owner, Cindy, was there to greet us and provide an orientation and tour of the apartment, lanai, carport, and grounds. Cindy also provided us with a bunch of bananas that were picked from her own banana tree. Cindy introduced us to her upstairs tenant, Beth, who was a very nice neighbor to have. Beth treated us to a six pack of Kona beer. My brother used the comfortable bed and I made use of the easy to set up futon mattress for sleeping. The futon also served as a makeshift couch to watch TV. The wall mounted 32" LED TV with an articulating arm was very nice with plenty of cable program options to view. The kitchen was very serviceable for our breakfast every morning, with a sink, mini-fridge, toaster oven, and microwave. Cindy provided us with a list of nice restaurants to try in Hilo. We ate at Lucy'c Taqueria, Pineapples, Cronies, and Ken's Pancake House. All of the restaurants were very good. We visited a lot of waterfalls. Akaka, Umauma, and Rainbow Falls were all gushing with high volumes of water. Awesome power. We did day trips to Waipio Valley and Pololu Valley for even more awesome waterfall views with a nice lunch stop in Kohala. Did another day trip to the Puna District and sights along routes 130, 132, and 137. Liked the end of the road locations at Uncle Robert's in Kalapana (Rt 137) and the end of Route 130, and the State park locations along route 137. Pahoa is a nice little town and we had dinner at Kaleo's. Also visited Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and hiked into the caldera as far as permissible by the park service. Went to the Jagger Museum in HVNP to view Kiluea's lava lake glowing at night. Also checked out the Steam Vents, Lava Tree Molds, and Sulphur Pits. Toured the Imiloa Astronomy Museum and the Pacific Tsunami Museum. Drove to the Visitor's Center on Mauna Kea but did not summit to the observatories because of rental car restrictions (would later summit Mauna Kea with a one-day 4WD pickup rental from Harper's). Also visited Liliuokalani Gardens and Coconut Island in downtown Hilo. During our travels, we made a few stops at Tex's in Honoka'a for Malasadas. Loved seeing the cruise ships pull into Hilo from the lanai. Loved the coquis at night and the neighbors cattle and goats. It was a wonderful and unforgettable week. Thanks so much Cindy for your comfortable accommodations. Mike Rogan & Chas Rogan Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
