There are plenty of day trips to local sights. The Kalkan/Akbel area is steeped in history and the Lycian Way (walking route) passing straight through Akbel. Patara Beach (17kms of sandy beach) is a bus ride away and also has some Roman ruins which you can visit. Not far from Patara is the Roman ruins of Xanthos, and most people enjoy a visit to the nearby Saklikent Gorge which is the 3rd largest in Europe. You can walk the gorge as far as the waterfall, or for the less adventurous, why not just sit and watch the world go by with a cool beer dangling your feet in the water from the restaurants that overhang the waters edge. Akbel has a local market on a Sunday which is within walking distance of the villa, and Kalkan has one on a Thursday.
