Movie Colony East (formerly Ruth Hardy Park) house description
Located on a quiet residential street in the heart of Palm Springs, “just around the corner” from Frank Sinatra’s Palm Springs house, this 1930s Spanish style bungalow is simply darling. The home features 1200 sq ft of living with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a gracious living room with fireplace, high ceiling, decorative wall niche, and 42” flat screen TV, a dining nook, a fully equipped kitchen and an enclosed sun porch with entry to a very private backyard with a beautiful newly renovated Pebble Tec pool. A convenient laundry area is adjacent to the kitchen and provides additional access to the backyard.
Old Spanish charm exists throughout the home, which while updated retains many of it’s original period design features lovingly maintained including kitchen and bathroom ceramic tiles and cabinets, Saltillo tile floor, and arched doorways. The dining and living areas boasts plantation shutters, original art and contemporary furnishings all in warm brown and red tones.
Quiet outdoor spaces abound with plenty of privacy; enjoy rocking on the front verandah in the gated front yard with palm trees and burgeoning bougainvillea or relax in the secluded backyard in the canopied outdoor living space by the pool. In the backyard, enjoy the views of the San Jacinto Mountain Range with the twinkle of the Palm Springs tramway by night! Cook inside or grill outside on a Professional gas grill.
Small enough for one but big enough for two couples to share with plenty of privacy.
The home is in a prime neighborhood on a quiet residential street within walking distance to downtown, Ruth Hardy Park and near the Desert Regional Medical Center. This is a great neighborhood for walks or bike rides, enjoying the many architectural styles of homes from mid-century, modern, to Spanish revival. Night life, great restaurants, spas, shopping, hiking trails, bike paths, yoga studios, Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and golf courses are just minutes away. Also enjoy street and art festivals and special events such as the Palm Springs International Movie festival, and Palm Springs Modernism Week.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this vintage home with extraordinary outside spaces. We spent hours sitting on the patio enjoying the perfect weather, our Aussie loved the fenced yard, and the hot tub was a perfect way to end many of our days. The location was perfect for enjoying Palm Springs' many restaurants and attractions. We took full advantage of Ruth Hardy Park and the neighborhood for regular walks. Amy was a joy to work with, our only regret is that we didn't book two months.

So Hard To Leave This Wonderful Home
So Hard To Leave This Wonderful Home
My husband and I stayed the month of January and absolutely loved everything about this charming home. The neighborhood is quiet, and wonderful for early morning walks, along with close proximity to downtown either by walking or car. The yard is beautifully landscaped with a gorgeous pool and hot tub in back. Comfortable beds, wonderful kitchen, easy access to Wifi, great living room for lounging, and just an all around clean, wonderfully decorated home. And Palm Springs itself is magical with its mountains and palm trees. We never ran out of things to do whether it was the open air market on Saturdays, the street fair on Thursday evenings, the FREE art museum on Thursday evenings, the canyon hikes where we actually spotted a long-horned sheep, wonderful restaurants and plenty of relaxation. We will be returning again to this very place next year.

Winter in Palm Springs
Winter in Palm Springs
We had a very relaxing time at this quaint Spanish style home! The home's architectural details make you feel like you've gone back in time. We got a lot of relaxation in, lounging under the awning and enjoying the hot tub! The fenced front and back yards were well loved by our little fur ball - he just couldn't get enough of the wonderful scents of the desert. We loved walking around the neighborhood and especially loved the proximity to N. Palm Canyon Drive - home to mid-century modern furniture, art, and tchochke stores! There was no snow this winter (yet), so our trip up the aerial tram was clear, blue, and warm! That's a trip worth taking. Also enjoyable is the Palm Springs Art Museum. It may be small but has a mighty collection! We cooked most of our meals in the well-appointed kitchen - we weren't lacking for any utensils or grill tools! Overall, a great space and we enjoyed our time!

We loved our stay in Palm Springs! The house was very charming and worked out perfectly for 2 couples. We had a few small issues that came up and the owner was wonderful about getting them resolved immediately. We would definitely rent this place again, great location!

A charming character property, made us feel at home as soon as we walked in the door. It is situated in a very quite and interesting part of the city. Would suit anyone who likes tranquility and. romantic days. The pool and spa are wonderful, all you need for a relaxing time is supplied. Will definately be returning to recharge the batteries. Weather hot but enjoyable, get too hot just get in the gorgeous pool. The more I write the more I miss the place. A must on any wish list.

Owner response: Dear Clive and Jane, Thanks you so much for your wonderful review. I am very happy that you had such a good time on your vacation. I realize that you traveled far to get to Palm Springs and how important it might be to have just that special place. I thank you very much for taking such good care of my home and I do hope that you will come back soon! Kind regards, Amy
Palm Springs is our favorite getaway and we always rent a house. This bungalow is our hands-down favorite of the places we have stayed. Cozy, clean, charming, quiet and private. We loved the Spanish tiles and the plantation shutters throughout, as well as the well-maintained original period kitchen and bath. The layout of the home is a perfect place for a couple to relax and decompress. The pool area is peaceful, ultra private, beautifully landscaped and relaxing enough to even fall asleep on a flotation device. Though the house is minutes from the airport, we never heard planes overhead. The location is convenient and super close to favorite restaurants Rick's, Guacamoles, Pinocchio's and King's Highway at the Ace Hotel. Amy was very friendly and helpful with guiding us about pool temps, late check-out and travel time to the airport. We were sad to leave and relished every last minute we could in the pool and under the canopied outdoor seating area until the absolute last moment. We will definitely stay again.

Owner response: Dear Ky-Yen, Thank you so much for your positive review. I am so happy your get away was everything you had hoped for. I know you were looking for loads sunshine and relaxation and I am pleased that you found it. It was such a pleasure to host you in my home; please come again! Kind regards, Amy
We rented this gem of a home for 10 days this past month and had a fabulous time. It was tastefully decorated and we felt immediately relaxed and comfortable from the moment we stepped foot inside. The photos and description provided were accurate and the neighbourhood is quite lovely. Although the walk to main street is certainly not too far (perhaps 15 - 20 mins), because it was so hot (105 degree heat) we only did this once (hey - we're Canadian...it was HOT!). However, walks early in the morning and after dinner were very pleasant and allowed to fully appreciate all of the beautifully landscaped properties along the way. Thursday night market was fun - go hungry. We hit a couple of matinees while there - quiet movie theatres mid day! We went up the Aerial Tramway and that was spectacular. Drove out to a date farm (mmm), and then stubbled upon the Thousand Palms Oasis while viewing the San Andreas fault-line on one of our many excursions. This was probably one of the most spectacularly interesting places either of us have ever been to. A must see!! Lots of shopping and incredible scenery everywhere you look and certainly a vacation place where you can do as much or as little as you like - something truly for everyone. Amy was easy to deal with from start to finish and all queries directed to her via email were quickly responded to (which included her property manager looking after something for us within approximately 10 minutes of notifying Amy!). Despite Palm Springs (and surrounding area) being a mecca of incredible restaurants, we only ate out a couple of times - the rest of our meals were prepared at home. We would often eat our breakfast and drink coffee on the back patio in the morning listening to the birds and watching the hummingbirds entertain us. Amy's pool was the icing on the cake. It MADE our vacation. We travel a fair amount and generally stay at condos with shared pools - which is fine - but what a luxury to have a pool to ourselves. To be able to lay quietly in the sun listening to the birds without listening to screaming children ....heaven! The backyard was very private and I cannot stress enough how quiet the entire environment was. It was a pleasure to put my head on the pillow every night and wake up in such solitude every morning. We have just booked another week at this lovely home and cannot wait to get back! Thanks again Amy, Best regards, Julie and David

Owner response: Dear Julie and David, Thank you so much for your very nice review. It was a pleasure working with you and I am pleased that my home met or exceeded your expectations. Palm Springs is truly a magical place and it sounds like you lived your vacation fully. Happy to have you back later this year!! Kind regards, Amy
Week long stay was just as advertised. Charming home plenty of space. The owner has thoughtfully laid out the kitchen with all untensils necessary for light cooking or gourmet prep. (we did both). Neighborhood is great. We walked to downtown various times. Rented bikes and did the movie stars tour. Drove south of town, for some excellent hiking at Indian Canyons, and saw wonderful oasis as well as mountain trails and streams. The pool is nice, especially after a good long run. Very private. Hot tub works well...requires a bit of planning so that you can heat it up, but not a problem. May not have needed pool heat...but that depends on the weather and time of year. Amenities like TV/cable, small stereo, alarms...etc all good quality. Linens/towels, etc. all provided, and high quality. This is a great option from the normal condo/resort style vacation. As a funny aside...Palm Spring has some whacked out birds. At 2:30 or 3:00 most mornings we were entertained my some of the "locals" who decided to start a choral fest outside our windows. :) If that would bother you...bring earplugs. Or maybe that's not normal. We found it kind of funny.

Owner response: Dear Tim and Marci, Thank you so much for your nice review! It has been such a pleasure working with you on your booking and especially hearing about all your outdoor adventures! Having lived in MN for a brief amount of time I can certainly appreciate what a spell of warmth does for the soul. Please come back again! Kind regards, Amy
My husband and I rented this house with another couple for an extended weekend. We each have 1 year old toddlers. This house was great! It was comfortable, in a great location, had all of the amenities we needed and best of all, was short walking distance to Ruth Hardy Park. We loved that the front yard was enclosed, which allowed the kids to run free and expend their toddler energy. We didn't give them the same free reign in the backyard because of the pool. Another great feature of the house was the back family room. Since it can be closed off, we threw all of their toys in there and turned it into a "playroom." This house is great for people without kids but I wanted to cater this review for families. As you may know, it's often difficult to find appropriate accommodations when traveling with children. This house fulfilled all of our needs and expectations.

A lovely home in a lovely area!!!
A lovely home in a lovely area!!!
My husband and I just returned from our first (and not last) trip to Palm Springs. This home was extremely comfortable and I cannot say enough about the back yard. The pool was wonderful, a shady area for reading or relaxing and a great BBQ. Loved the querkiness of staying in a 1938 home. We loved the Movie Colony area. We walked the neighbourhood in the mornings, picked up city bike loops minutes from the house, hiked in the many trails surrounding Palm Springs, visited the Thursday night markets (twice) and generally just enjoyed the coffee shops and restaurants all within walking distance of old town Palm Springs. Late afternoons were all spent relaxing by the pool. We would absolutely rent this home again and would recommend this home to others. Amy was very responsive and the booking process was fast and simple.

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I am a single owner and currently reside in the Bay Area. I purchased the home in 2005 to spend weekends and vacations with friends. I've furnished the house filled with creature comforts, comfortable furniture and original art as if I was living there full time. I enjoy coming out to the house as often as I can. I love the proximity of the house to Ruth Hardy Park and the short walk into town to shop or eat at some of my favorite restaurants. I love the outdoors especially hiking and have discovered many trails in and near Palm Springs.
Why the Owner Chose Movie Colony East (formerly Ruth Hardy Park):
I had always visited Palm Springs and decided I wanted to purchase a house to establish a more permanent home base. Palm Springs has so much to offer culturally, from celebrity tours, international movie festivals and the Palm Springs Modernism Week, all on the backdrop of the magical big wide open and peaceful serenity of the desert. There's nothing quite like it!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It was love at first sight with this 1938 Spanish bungalow. I've updated it through the years but have tried to retain the original period features. This house is so close to everything yet with the benefit of a quiet residential neighborhood. Everyone is so friendly. The privacy of the property both in the front and backyards are very special and the soothing ambiance of the home interior leave me feeling rested and at peace.
