SPECTACULAR SERENITY

Date of Stay: 01/26/12 Review Submitted: 01/30/12

wife and i stayed 3 nights in beautiful middlefork ranch. every amenity...every comfort...everything needed for a relaxing, recuperative stay. we were both getting over a bout of flu and Kris and her husband Mike made our stay perfect for getting well. enough so that by the third day, we had enough energy to hike 10 switchbacks up the mountain toward the gasquet toll road. what a dramatic and beautiful view. thank you kris and mike for a wonderful mini-vacation.

Owner response:Thank you! Glad that you were able to relax and recover. Hope all goes well with your parents. Kris

My husband, son and self recently returned from a week's stay at the ranch. The grounds are so lovely. The pristine private riverfront beach has chairs and lounge chairs to enjoy. Their garden is spectacular to view. The owner's two friendly dogs come by to visit. I would recommend staying at this rental to all my friends and family. We had a wonderful time!

Stay at Middlefork Ranch in the Rustic Retreat

My husband and I found this cabin rental by chance, searching for a place to go on our one year wedding anniverasary. We found this place and it was heaven. Our cabin overlooked the Smith River and the 15 acres of property was amazing. We were able to sight see and travel to Oregon and Crescent City with ease, as well as Klamoth CA. Kris and Mike, the owners, were fantastic people and we really had a great time. The foot bridge, made by Mike, was astonishing. We truely enjoyed our stay and will go definitely visit again.

Private, Restful

Very quite and private. After all day hiking it was great to come back and sit in the hot tub and listen to the rush of the river. Cabin had everything we needed and more. The bridge is new and bigger than in the pictures that are currently posted, not so scarry! Loved the fresh eggs too!

So Lucky to have found this place!

I had recently heard about Gasquet through a friend. I was a bit hesitant at what to expect...My friend had camped there and since camping is not my thing, I googled "cabin rental" and was so LUCKY to find "ravens nest". We had never heard of Gasquet before and were a bit nervous of whether it would be worth the six hour drive.... What made us go with this place and give it a chance was that it was pet friendly and the price was really reasonable (even more reason for apprehension...) However, we were so shocked when we arrived at how BEAUTIFUL the property was. The cabin is so welcoming and the decor blends nicely throughout the house. LOVED IT!!! The pictures on this site DO NOT do this cabin or property justice! This was one of the most relaxing vacations taken in along time. I would highly recommend any of the properties listed by this owner. The property is well maintained and highly protected by their lab, basset hound and our very favorite jack russel named Nelly!! :) We will be going back there as often as we can!!! It is so worth the drive and worth every dollar! Thank you Kris, Mike and Laura for making this one of the best vacations! Also, thanks Maddy, Vivian and Nelly for the endless entertainment! We will be missing those dogs as much as the cabin:)

To Future Guest looking at this book- now don't you feel smug for having discovered what has to be the nearest place this side of perfect... certainly in southern Oregon/northern California. I live in Brookings (on the coast) and while we enjoy the ocean, there is nothing on this earth more relaxing and restorative than a pristine river in the wilderness. And such luxurious "digs"... Hard to call this a cabin. A big round of applause to Kris & Mike for getting everything absolutely perfect. An even bigger vote of gratitude for their willingness to share this magical place with we lucky few people. Within the first hour here, I told Kris we were never leaving... not very original but certainly heartfelt. We too, loved Mattie's gentle presence, and how about that "pocket rocket" Nellie. To think that we can come again makes our hearts sing.

Thank you for such a beautiful place to spend our honeymoon. We love the Ravens Nest. We plan to retire somewhere in the Texas hills country and have a cabin on a river. This made us feel like we were already there! Even the persistent California rain could not dampen our spirits! Enjoyed walking along the river, the bridge, and the relaxing calm we found here. God's beauty is incredible. Just look at the mountains, the river, and the sky. Such majesty! We will be back.

We arrived here last Sat and our first impression, where the _____ is this road taking us, and we found out "Paradise" We will be leaving on Sat 13th one week here. We have had a wonderful time. The bridge... WOW The dog visited with us every night. The privacy here is great. Kris/Mike were here to greet us and help unload, otherwise we did not see much of you which shows me that you respect people's privacy. My wife and I really enjoyed your place and we had a very relaxing visit. Thank you

Thank you so much for this opportunity to explore and share so much nature! We had so much fun. We got to visit with each other, swim in the river, hike through the woods, and share so many stories in the hot tub. Thank you!

We have the utmost respect for the work it takes and the courage to share such a beautiful home. Before arriving, I could only imagine so much beauty in one place-now my dreams of a "homey" cabin, in the forest, by a river have been realized & exceeded! I can think of no better place to be reunited with family for a weekend of fishing. We are truly blessed by this experience, fish or not. Thank you

The first morning of our visit I took a stroll down by the river. I was keenly aware of the brilliant new sunlight of the awakening day. All of the colors were intense. I found myself gazing deeply into the river, when I looked up I saw the most beautiful rainbow over the valley. A great gift from paradise. ( I crossed the bridge the first time in the dark with no flashlight!!!)

Fished a little, swam a little, ate a lot! The fish didn't bite. Did some cannon ball splashes and swam between rocks. This was a fun weekend.

This was our second visit here at the amazing Middlefork Ranch. We were planning on driving somewhere for a hike, but then decided that all the adventure we needed was right here! We relaxed on the porch and in the hot tub, hiked several times up the road, and spent a sunny day swimming in the river... This area is great for bird watching: Black-throated gray warblers ( a family), American dipper, western tanager, willow flycatcher, black-headed grosbeak, among many other birds. We also saw while swimming in the beautiful smith river, cutthroat trout, small salmon, and a pacific lamprey. What a place!!! WE LOVE IT HERE.

This is God's country! What a fabulous retreat. We are "first timers" to the Middlefork Ranch. Hopefully we will return during the summer months, and I'll remember to bring my fishing gear. A place like this takes me back to my childhood and brings forth many fond memories. Saturday was my husband's birthday, and I know that he thoroughly enjoyed being there. What a restful and rejuvenating life here at the Ravens Nest. Thank you for your hospitality.

We truly enjoyed our four days here. What a BEAUTIFUL and CHARMING ranch you have here! Can;t wait to tell all of our friends about it. We couldn't believe all of the amenities and personal touches that made our stay here seem like we were home away from home. Thank you! We hope to come back to your lovely oasis.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at a most beautiful place. Your personal touches to the cabin makes it feel like a friendly home away from home. We had a fire almost every night down by the river and swam daily in your swimming holes. What a great way to "camp." We didn't eve have to bring the dogs-Sadie kept us company every day. Thanks again for your hospitality. Sincerely

Kris & Mike You have a very special place, and we enjoyed every minute here! Thank you for all of the little touches you did to make us feel at home! We were ecstatic about the rasberries. The kids had a great time snorkling. The tip about bubble gum for ear plugs was great. Our family will always remember this very special place. Thank you

Our kids loved the "gummie worms" waiting for them upon arrival, watching the robins get real worms from the lawn outside the kitchen windows (loved the counter by the kitchen windows-favorite spot for both of them-had to take turns) picking berries, finding a frog & tiny snake and fish at the river. Seeing the insect eating plants & hiking to the farthest swimming hole, swimming in the river, petting sadie, well all of it.... I especially enjoyed seeing them learn to appreciate the many surprises and wonders in a natural setting in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I've wanted to stay at the Smith River for years, but with the campground booked up for a year in advance we were happy to find a comfortable alternative. Thanks for everything.

Middle Fork Ranch is certainly the best thing we ever found on the internet. We had a great few days of relaxing, swimming and exploring. A wonderful quiet, private house!! The Smith River is so beautiful. Especially after 5days at Lava beds. Also thanks for the cake and hugs to sadie and Regina who were always good, patient company.

What a gift and privilege to stay here. Our sons had a wonderful time fishing and playing frisbee. My toddler and I munched berries, fed the ducks, and played with the dogs. Such a happy friendly place. Hope to be back. Julian, CA
