- The Sea of Peace, a private Edisto Island Retreat, is located on the marshes of Fishing Creek in the 'Neck' off Palmetto Road very close to the Atlantic Ocean. The large cottage is near the back entrance of Edisto Beach State Park and from the property it is an easy 30 minute bicycle ride over maritime forest trails and marsh boardwalks to Big Bay and Scott Creeks, the Spanish Mount, the State Park cabins, Live Oak Campground and on to the commercial district of Edisto Beach and the Atlantic Ocean where you will find the beach front section of Edisto Beach State Park, restaurants & other activities. Also the town of Edisto Beach has extensive bike trails throughout the barrier island. The almost 2-acre yard at the Sea of Peace has plenty of parking-even for several big fishing boats and RV's. Big Bay Public Boat Landing is approx. 1 mile away for access to the South Edisto River and Steamboat Landing is nearby for the North Edisto River, Bohikit Creek, Rockville, Kiawah Island, and Charleston. This area is famous for boating, kayaking, exploring, nature studies, old plantation mansions, seashells galore. Incredible Botany Bay is nearby and open to the public for exploring, hunting, surf fishing, hiking and bike riding on an uninhabited coastline and wilderness beach enjoyment. The Sea of Peace comes with its own private Labyrinth made of rocks and seashells gathered from nearby beaches. The Labyrinth was built by nuns many years ago for a spiritual retreat and is still used today for quiet contemplation. The Sea of Peace is the perfect coastal retreat for relaxing, recreation, writing, art workshops, spiritual retreats, reunions, etc. The city of Charleston is less than an hour away and Walterboro, Savannah, and Beaufort are close by for day trips....moreless

Our short stay at the Sea of Peace was most refreshing. The surroundings are unmatched for privacy and quiet. The house is furnished with ecclectic pieces, beautiful artwork, vintage quilts, and everything required for cooking and dining. It is a short drive to the beaches or to town to restaurants or grocery store. The proximity to the park and trails is a real asset. We did not get to use the kayak, but hope to next time. We saw so many beautiful marsh and woodland birds, including painted buntings! The owner was wonderful to deal with and made every effort for our stay to be comfortable and positive. This was out first trip to Edisto in more than 30 years, but we are hoping it will not be out last. Thanks for a charming, clean and comfortable home!

This is a great choice for someone who wants a quiet, private, peaceful retreat. The house is very comfortable. We loved the back deck and sat many peaceful hours watching birds, deer, raccoons and the tide. We also enjoyed the nearby bike trails. It's a short drive to the beach.

A "WONDERFUL" VACATION GETAWAY!!
A "WONDERFUL" VACATION GETAWAY!!
This property was all that we expected and then some! We had several people in the wedding party (my son was married in Charleston during our stay) staying with us, and when they pulled up in the yard they were truly impressed with the property! It was so restful and relaxing to be there, even with all of the activities we had planned ,we could come back to this wonderful place and just kick back and rest..We really loved the marsh and saw lots of deer come through the yard at all hours of the day and night! So peaceful! There are so many places in the house and porches to just sit and relax! I also enjoyed the two hammocks and outside sitting areas---We also enjoyed the bike trails around the island--If you book here you will not regret it---I also enjoyed the book store just down the road with the resident cat'" EMILY GRACE" , do not forget to visit her when you come here---I recommend this property very highly--my dog enjoyed his stay also--thank you Jeanette for all of your help with my booking--we hope to come back next year!!!

My husband and I recently had a wondeful getaway vacation at Sea of Peace and can't wait to get back for our next retreat. After we drove over the big bridge and headed towards Edisto Island with all its natural unspoiled beauty, it was as though all the stress of city living fell away and a "magic spell" of peace, relaxation, and tranquility came over us. There is something very special about "Sea of Peace" and both my husband and I can understand why this remarkable place was selected for a church and mediation retreat by the former owners. When we first left the main highway and drove past the Edisto Beach State Park Environmental Learning Center and headed into "The Neck" neighborhood, we couldn't believe we had found such a natural area so close to Charleston. We love the quaint coastal cottage style house with its double screen porches overlooking the marsh and tidal creek where we can enjoy watching the birds, deer, and sometimes dolphin. "Sea of Peace" is the only place I get to ride a bike for hours, exploring the neighborhood and bike trails to the beach. We also enjoy sea kayaking, pushing off right from the front yard with hours of navigable water. My husband can't wait to get back for more fishing and crabbing at the salt ponds. We discovered some favorite restaurants, but you can't beat "The Sea Cow" for a huge, delicious breakfast. There are lots of shops for finding that perfect gift, beach attire, or shell ornament. While we aren't golfers, we enjoyed eating dinner at the resort which is open to the public. Lastly, I walked the meditation labryinth several times and will return again and again for this healing experience. We love "Sea of Peace" so much, we are bringing our entire family back in July.
